Even the real reason they lost was because Tsukishiro rigged the game and wasted Kiyotaka's protected points, but on the other hand, this is also an important step for the growth of Horikita and the entire class, that they will always encounter setbacks and failures in life.
By the way, the move Ayanokoji wanted to play was Q-g5 which sacrifice the queen as well but blocks the g rank. After both queens are traded, he would be a rook up and win easily.
Qg5 or Qd8+ or Qe8+ are all good, just deflect one of the two pieces that black set up to checkmate and that's it. Terrible calculation from Arisu though considering she's very good at chess
I like how after 90% of the people talking crap about Arisu, how they all wanted to see her defeated, without smilling and even (some people) wanting to see her crying in despair, SHE STILL SMILES AT THE VERY END🤣 she's the best. When you WANT to face a strong opponent, you're not gonna be sad or even disappointed if you lose.

Actually, Ayonokoji was going for a queen exchange. She didn't call him brilliant because he took the sacrificed queen : she called him brillant before he took that queen, and probably because she knew where he was going with this... then she gasped when he took the sacrificed queen... precisely because, like all of us chess enjoyers, she knew that was forced mate in two moves. There might be a few problems with the game, some of the changes in the board don't make sense to me. But the ending of the game kinda works... if we're accepting the fact that a genius of chess like Ayonokoji would even end up in such a position.

What I find hilarious that you missed is that the wrong move was taking that queen with the pawn. It opened up the King to the rook slide check. And it is "also" the move you called her dumb for not just taking saying bs like "you'll be up a Queen". If the opponent offers up a deliberate Queen sacrifice, and decent chess player will be sweating at what they missed lol.

As soon as Horikita was "told" she should take the Queen the game was instantly mate in 2 for Alice.

Some context since I play at around a 2200 or so level at chess (roughly Master). The game of chess is shit and filled with errors, but the end is actually really tricky. After the Queen took the Knight on f3, if gxf3 like what happened, then Rg6+ is played by Black. White can play Kh1 and then Black plays Bxf3#. That's mate. Technically, there's another move White can make after Rg6+ and that's Qg5. But after Rxg5+, White is then forced to play Kh1, after which it becomes mate. As upset as I was with how the game was portrayed here, they at least got that little tactic right. Another thing they got right is the fact that the move that was 'overwritten' by that guy, Qg5, is really convincing. If hxg5 then White can play gxf3, leaving White up a Rook for a Pawn. So long as White plays right, it's an easy win.

Ayanokoji is doing well, but his father’s like, “He might be perfect, but no son of mine will get perfect treatment because I say so.” I understand not trying to show bias or even tough love or no special treatment, but when someone, specifically your son is showing time and time again that they’re the golden standard, it should be understandable to everyone if they get preferential treatment.
This is so underwhelming in so many ways. Especially in the LN, Horikita actually cried out loud that she didn't want to lose and kinda begged Ayanokoji to do something abt it, it wasn't just in her head.

As someone who's never read a light novel I did watch a ton of videos about what happens later and it still confuses me. Though, without spoiling much of anything from what I've heard about the light novel, Ayanakoji does eventually give her what she really wants and is, let's say "satisfied".
I hate to repeat it but, it´s so sad know the LN is one of the best in the last 10 years and the anime some episodes are good animated and others are not, and obviously skipping things, for example, they didn´t show he won a supercomputer when he was a kid. I recognised that it´s so difficult animated this LN and not doing it boring, because there are a lot of backstory, but come on don´t skip it all, like they did with Ichinose and hirata, just show them sad and angry for no reason, because u gave us no context, and when they show us the "backstory" still skipping things... It´s frustrating
Yeah and how they cut out Ayanokoji catching Arisu and him taking blows from Tsukishiro before the choking part and having legit fan animation aswell. It makes me sad when they skip good content from the novels

It was a dumb ass 1000 elo chess game......they started with a nimzo larsen english variation tough not the main line and then when arisu and ayanokoji joined they made a 5 blunders streak.....i can beat them together....😂

Anime Only Comment: The problem with her is the overhyped foreshadowing to their match. Throughout the OP, ED, and the actual show this match has been built up as a "New Challenger" for our "Invincible Protagonist" but Ayanokoji had little to no ability to play the game with what little he had being manipulated by a scummy third party. Her "character development" has also been on hold until this cringeworthy moment before feeling utterly wasted by their quick unofficial chess match and the small talk after that makes it seem like she was an artificially inflated small role. Looking at it this way, it seems as though the creator wanted to raise the stakes of the story but looked at their notes and found no satisfying way to conclude things without affecting future story development so they rushed together an "ending." If I had to guess, it is kind of like they want to tell an intriguing story but they realize they cannot plan ahead properly so they scrap the plot so they can start again.
