    Thank you for emphasizing trail courtesy. Many riders nowadays have no idea about trail etiquette and have a very selfish attitude when it comes to sharing the trails.

      I’ve never had a biker be rude to me while hiking. But I’ve had many hikers be rude to me while biking. If anything I’ve noticed bikers being overly courteous to avoid confrontation.

    Definitely relate to that "ride what makes you excited to ride" vibe. Had that kinda debate in my head this past season as I slowly realized I was heavily overbiked for my local terrain, and it got the point where I wasn't really as excited to ride anymore. Finally bit the bullet and picked up a Top Fuel and it's like the trails are brand new again, and I'm absolutely stoked to go ride.

    As much as I love my high-performance carbon racing MTB, I love taking my rigid dropbar gravel bike on all the same trails, no matter how technical they get. Sure, I have to go slower and walk more sections, but it's just good old fashion fun pushing my limits on a bike obviously not made for trail riding. It's also more fun to ride the roads to the trails instead of loading up the MTB into the truck and driving.

    My only bike for a few years was a steel Jones with 27.5 x 2.8 tyres set up single speed, it was such a fun bike and I never should have sold it! I found that high bars with 15 degree sweep (Hunter high rise bars) un-weighted my hands allowing me to relax and let the front end bounce around while simultaneously the bike remained super precise and responsive. It also made for a comfortable upright position while climbing out of the saddle (which was a lot with only one gear!) :)

    hey Jeff amazing shenanigans you are getting into, I have a question that i think is especially relevant here, i have recently been having trouble keeping my rear foot on the bike. I know part of it is due to position of my foot since my rear foot points a bit more out when rested than the other and that transfers on the bike but is there anything else you would recommend trying since i feel this is the one thing that limits me most right now since my local trails can get quite janky. Thank you for reading

    • @JeffKendallWeed
      @JeffKendallWeed  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If your foot isn't staying put, practice dropping your front foot's heel, and lifting your rear foot's heel. This creates a wedge that locks you into the pedals. Beyond that, ride with more bend in your knees, creating a lower stance.

      I would LOVE a utilitarian Class III eMTB like this! I haven't been able to find anything like this- I want a 65 degree head angle, long but not silly wheelbase, NOT a super long back end (this is long chainstay at almost 450, it would be great for townie, but I absolutely DO NOT want Extra cycle or extenda-bike style stays), SOLID rear rack that can support a 50lb kiddo. Adding the plastic MTB fenders, a front basket for my backpack, and some lights/a lock, it'd be an AMAZING townie and kiddo shuttle rig. Alas, the only bikes close to that are goofy small wheels, short wheelbase, or Class I. I'm not into Class I for around town. I wanna go with the speed of traffic, hence the 28mph desire.

    as a rigid rider myself, im enjoying your videos with the stooge. But that brooks saddle must be beyind terrible for this?!

    • @JeffKendallWeed
      @JeffKendallWeed  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I love how ironic it is, though! It's also nice having a saddle that's just so different from a regular saddle- lots of "fresh real estate" if you know what I mean!

  • @grundle.chunder
    @grundle.chunder 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You've gotta go for a truss fork for the upgrade. That'll take the abuse much better.

      I think you would appreciate Jones bikes for the minimalism

    • @JeffKendallWeed
      @JeffKendallWeed  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You think? They sure do look sweet... I'm concerned tho- I've never seen anyone wheelie, let alone jump, a Jones... I also doubt they are available for $500 used frame and fork!

    • @grundle.chunder
      @grundle.chunder 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JeffKendallWeed True, I haven't seen anyone jump one either, but Jeff Jones has always claimed capability/durability to match regular mountain bikes, although you're probably exceptionally capable of abuse. I wonder if you could just fit one of the steel truss forks to the Stooge!

    Those bending forks are not good. Specially because the Stooge is not compatible with other forks because of the 1.1/8e headtube and low AC. Sure it's probably a warranty issue but thats just not what you want to deal with.

    • @JeffKendallWeed
      @JeffKendallWeed  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah it's a looks thing with the straight 1 1/8" head tube- but Andy already got me set with some stronger forks- looking forward to trying them!

      @@JeffKendallWeed well, this is the thing with Stooge - every new bike new pantone palette. Meanwhile I’m searching for used Dirtbomb and gonna painted it black anyway.

      @@JeffKendallWeed I'm guessing as you quoted the Pantone code in the vid you'll be remedying this soon enough? 👍 🍆 When I bent my MK4 forks I tried a truss fork for a while - a 'trussed mullet' in fact - was very good indeed... Maybe you could try a a titanium truss on there? 🤔

    Soes ya know Jeff, our vintage rigids did NOT come with fancy stretched out geometry. Or lighter weight, wide internal width wheels and 3"+ wide tires. Rigid "mountain bikes" were the same twitchy geometry as racer boyee roadies with wider chain stays. Add a crudely bent hoop welded to a post machined to accept a quill stem for a super narrow riser bar (no wider than roadie drops), attachments for mud clearing (accumulating?) brake blocks and steel wheels with 72 spokes . . . that's more like it. Until Aluminum frames, they weighed in around 40 lbs. I still own one. Why? I paid too much for it and can't sell it. It'd be like giving it away. Nostalgia. Just remembering the good times.

    Describe your techniqe. Are you riding more old school ? How does that impact on your bike sizing and what measures you like in a bike? Chain stay, reach and so on

    14:44 You've expressed this sentiment in at least one other video and I think you have lost perspective. You are an anomaly among mountain bikers. You have skills the rest of us can't even imagine attaining. For us, the normal 95%, riding something like The White Line with our meager skill, courage and self assurance IS a Big Deal and we, rightly so, want recognition for conquering it. It's only cringey for those who find it easy and boring to then beg for attention while riding it. But it's also kinda cringey to go on and on with false modesty about how easy it is. Just ride, man. Let us have our little wins where we can find them.

    • @JeffKendallWeed
      @JeffKendallWeed  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      If you are stoked on riding the white line, then congrats to you! I have expressed my personal opinion about the white line only three times over the last few years, and it's nothing more than an opinion. It's OK to agree to disagree. Please don't let my opinion diminish your own accomplishment- we just have different contexts, and that's OK.
