So so happy that Pip decided to share the slow boat odyssey with the whole world I think will all learned the nuts and bolts of a jury rig and resilience in a stressful and depressing situation. Just a class act !
Great interview with Pip Hare, she handled every question perfectly. She has good reason to be proud of herself for rescuing herself and staying on top of the situation. Inspirational.
Nice interview with Pip. She credits Sam Goodchild for the inspiration for the jury rig setup. But I think it also shows how she is always thinking ahead and wanting to learn as much as she can from any situation. That's seamanship.
So glad Pip is safe in port - what a trouper and so wise. Continued good wishes to all sailors, so much still to come. Thank you for the update and warm regards.
I went to see Pip and Medallia these last two days. She is looking really relaxed and the Melb weather is super pleasant this week! Great spot to collect herself.
Just an absolute heroic person, so unassuming, such competence, Pip's a true legend and we all are wishing her great success in the future. Just marvelous!
I love that you said it was really inconvenient that your mast snapped 😂. Pip you are a one off diamond. Your positive, practical approach to this situation has shone through and you demonstrate an attitude that inspires. Bloody brilliant Pip 🤗
Thanks so much for the extended Pip interview because it contained a significant lesson about one's life - one is responsible for it and one must rescue oneself in which we place ourselves. How amazing is Seb Simon with only a port foil - I watch carefully when winds permit a starboard tack and off he goes! Amazing.
Pip I will say it again you are extraordinary seawomen. This episode of sail world was the best, you told the world how and what you did, it is was fantastic interveiw. Bill from 🇦🇺
Fantastic responses from Pip, maintaining her composure, professionalism and love of the sport. Sounds like Matty Johns as the interviewer, who didn’t do too bad for a Rugby League player that probably doesn’t know much about sailing, although he was looking for a dramatic sound byte
The IMOCA rigs are at extreme stresses - designed to be robust enough for the race - but not overdesigned - and rigs do come down as Pip shared today - her strength, willpower, "positivity," and experienced seamanship came through beautifully in the interview. Oh, and the leaders are 6nm apart, and the Vendee could end with a week shaved off too. Great video Sail-World - thank you!
Pip really is incredibly inspirational and has taken full responsibility for her own learning and happiness. Winning is not holding the trophy, but doing your best every single day! What a hero! I will miss her daily videos now; they have been far more interesting than the race itself! Thanks, Pip!
Pip deserves a medal for giving others such an example of how to live life. We need a book from her and sponsorship and crowd funding to set her up for her next race.
Pip, please don't put this on yourself. There is no blame. It just was. It's definitely sad, but there's no obvious reason. What's incredible is what you did in response and the lessons you taught others.
Pip is so amazingly impressive. She immediately took decisive, corrective, action and saved her vessel. Without any hesitation, she took full responsibility for what happened while explaining all she did to counter, and prior actions to prevent, the loss of the mast. Then, on top of all this, she freely gives Sam the credit for her being able to erect the jury-rig! If only she could teach executives to adopt this type of can-do, I accept responsibility, while crediting others, attitude.
There is a danger that people do not see through Pip Hare's modesty to appreciate her seamanship. She took her dismasted boat through 30 knot winds and 5 metre seas to safely after buiding a jury rig. She sailed a broken boat in conditions which would scare the wits of most sailors! Her calm charismatic steely determination means that her bravery, ingenuity and skill will sadly go largely unnoticed by the public. She is amazing.
Whoever did the Pip interview asked rude questions. "Who's to blame?" Really? "The riger?" Really? "Was it worth all the effort..." Really? Such negative questions for such a positive person. Way to go Pip!
If I were to blame anything for the dismasting it would be the foils - they make for an aggressively brutal ride - but that's what you trade for speed.
@@philippesails4973 yes, very sad news that the winner of the previous edition is out. Here's the news: www.sail-world.com/news/282486/Yannick-Bestaven-withdraws-from-the-Vendee-Globe
So what was it exactly that failed, causing the mast to come down? What was the first domino to fall? The carbon itself, halfway two fixed points? A stay?
So when do u switch to time of location rather than pommie time? I I enjoy your updates - will be in Melbourne tomorrow need to look up Pip. Keep up the good work
We keep to UTC the whole time, so as to have a consistent point of reference, and it's what the Vendee Globe site uses as well. Thanks for the feedback!

Exactly❣
Pip, you are an inspiration. I sense honest introspection and calmness of spirit - really, really well done!
100%!
What a mindset! 1.Dismast. 2.Fix it. 3.Shed the tears. Then ...."how fast can I get this boat to go"? 😊True Pip. ❤
What a symphony of good sense and seamanship. "I love the person that it makes me become" should be a motto for all sailors.
Nice interview with Pip.

I completely agree.

Great feedback from Pip and yes, there is still a lot to come in this fantastic race!
Pip is such an unassuming legend. She had a disaster but rescued herself without putting other people’s lives at risk.
Pip is one great person who knows what to do when things go rong at sea averr

Absolutely. Pip's calmness and love of sailing both shine through.
Well said. matty johns is an a-hole -- Sail World using him for an interview was quite disappointing.
Oh yes Pip, you should be proud of your journey.
Big inspiration, even for a person who is not into sailing.
Awesome job.
Greetings from Australia!
I am in awe of Pip. She is incredible.

Merci beaucoup pour la qualité de votre suivi, bien meilleure que celui de la chaine officielle française !
Merci pour le complément !
Pip is a legend! She turned her disaster into a uplifting daily vlog. Going to miss her.
Pip, what a gutsy lady - I'm speechless!
Great admiration and respect for Pip Hare
Hurray to Pip! Glad to see that she's safe and sound, kept the composure under stress!
Pip deserves a medal for giving others such an example of how to live life. We need a book from her and sponsorship and crowd funding to set her up for her next race.
You should be proud of yourself. You have kept your spirit up and that's why you are the "slow boat cup" winner.
To be honest, I followed Pip's "slow boat" adventure more than the actual race.
Pip, please don't put this on yourself. There is no blame. It just was. It's definitely sad, but there's no obvious reason. What's incredible is what you did in response and the lessons you taught others.
Great reporting
Thank you!
Pip is the best.
More fantastic reporting Mark! Thank you and happy 2025🎉
Well spoken, Pip Hare! 👍
Hip! Hip! Pip!
Thank you 👍
Pip! Not in any danger? So much could have gone wrong but you were brilliant....
"Shemanship" = Pip

Amazing still so close.Happy safe new year to all Sailors😅
Self reliant. Honest. Responsible. ALIVE and KICKING 😂😊,! NOT an iota of Self pity 🎉. Someone give this woman a special prize.... Hi Sam 🇬🇩

Pip for the win in vendee globe 2028!!

Awesome
Nice work to not blame anyone for the mast failure.
Some crass interviewing of Pip I thought, yet her answers were really interesting so what do I know?! 😊
If Jim Ratcliffe is watching you would be better putting your money into Pip Hare than Manchester United....
Seem like you recorded before Yannick Bestaven, winner of the las edition, sadly had to withdraw.

Pips interviewer had some dumb ass questions…
Chin up, you did great. - sorry you had to endure so many of those dumb questions... The guy should be reporting on car accidents, not this race.
Man kann nur hoffen, daß Boris Herrmann den 8. Platz bis zum Ziel halten kann. Er ist so abgelenkt durch seine Öffentlichkeitsarbeit und Wahlwerbung.😢
