I've been a tomtom user for years now. The one thing Ike about tomtom devices is that on the right hand side of the screen, it will show you what's coming up. Traffic delays, rest areas, etc. It shows about the next 40 miles or so ahead. Garmin's, Google maps, Apple Maps or Waze don't do that. Wish they did tho.
Agreed. I do love that about the TomTom and the way its implemented. Garmins also do that now in their own way with categories, but I do have a preference to TomTom’s UI.
By far the best sat nav review I've watched. If the TomTom developers have not watched this then they really need to. Your observations would help push their product to another level. Watching this from cold, wet England wishing I could be driving to Sunnyvale in California tomorrow. Nice work. Well done. Thumbs up. Ps if you want a truly terrible experience try the Ford inbuilt sat nav. I can hardly begin to tell you how bad it is. It can't even search by post code (UK equivalent of zip code) and has me showing as flying through emptiness on roads years old.
Hej. Jeg tænkte på at skifte til TomTom igen, efter 5 år med Garmin. Det tror jeg ikke kommer til at ske, selvom Garmins trafik oplysninger er meget dårligere end TomTom’s.
Yes, TomTom GPS devices are capable of optimizing routes for you. This feature allows you to input multiple destinations, and the device will calculate the most efficient route, usually starting with the closest destination and then proceeding to the others in an order that minimizes overall travel time or distance. The specific steps to use this feature might vary depending on the model of your TomTom GPS, so it's a good idea to refer to the user manual. Tomtom is also known for removing features model to model.
@MikeMu thanks for the reply. Also because had a garmin it went out on me. And garmins maps are trash in florida it can't find anything well newer communities really... also sends me down blocked off dirt roads around the road to the backs of properties to get to the home... so not trying to get another garmin... so the question is how many stops can I put in? Garmin I can put about 45 50 before it acts up. At times crashes and reboots multiple times .
@@prtbone78 Unfortunately I wouldn't know about routing in FL, as I *almost made it out there last week, but have never been*. However, you can try out route planning youself with Tomtom and see how it goes. Go to mydrive.tomtom.com and log in to your TomTom account Click Plan Route in the menu bar on the left side Search for addresses or points of interest to set the starting point and destination Select a stop on the map by selecting it, then selecting Add Stop In the pop-up menu, select Send Route to device when you're done with your stops.
I've been using an older model of TomTom and I'm looking at getting upgrade (new model), and have some questions. How is the screen responsiveness ? Does it lag at all when you touch options in the menu ? Also how long does it take to boot it up from being offline (mine takes forever to boot up)?
Besides the startup time, everything is shown live in the video. It is their fastest unit, and its enough after bootup. Bootup from having an update (that's what was going on in the very beginning of video lasted about 30 seconds so that's about the longest to expect at the time of the video). This can vary depending on the software version.
so, I dunnot weally need the app to connect to my device? the tomtom go professional needs a Iphone to use the app.. can I usa a smatphone just like hotspot? and use the tomtom?
You will want to setup with Wi-Fi for the big updates. You can use your smartphone hotspot - I’ve done that for smaller updates - it’s just that unless you have 5G fast connection it will take a while. But stuff like traffic updates you can use the app connection via Bluetooth for that , but you still need cellular data connection for those updates (live updates over Bluetooth).
I usually just use the voice command. Hello tomtom…. Volume up. Volume 100 (max volume). It’s safer than taking your hands off the wheel to tap the screen.
No. I would definitely not recommend for off-road. Stick with the Garmin varieties ( amzn.to/3ReIq9j ) for that right now. Older TomTom versions had more flexibility with this allowing you to load your own stuff onto them. This one does not - at least not easily/no tool that would work great. Also no Topo.
Hi Mike, I like your video, very nice content. You deserve more interactions than this, Keep up good work. 👍 Just wondering what mic you use in this video and what software you use to process your audio, if you don't mind. Asking because your voice sounds awesome.👍
Thank you! You are too kind. The microphone I use is the R0de NTG, simply mounted on my camera hotshoe: go.mikemu.com/rodentg In this particular case, I did not need anything else as the camera, GH6 ( amzn.to/38YRoXE ) has much improved microphone pre-amps. Video was edited on Adobe Premiere. I keep a list of my equipment used in my video description usually, and this is updated periodically.
Hi, Does this Tom Tom have the FREE Lifetime Maps and Traffic updates on it? Cause in the future if this device is no longer able to process the map updates due to hardware/storage limitations. Then you are screwed BIG then! And here u spend all that money for the Tom Tom then it’s useless .

Thanks for this excellent and thorough review of this Tom Tom... just bought one 2 days ago...I now know what I am in for.
I just feel like their app fixes most of these short comings. The give and takes of a phone not withstanding, I just love the TomTom Go app
Jared are referring to the subscription based app?
@@MikeMu yes, sorry for the lack of clarity :)

@MikeMu thnx. Ok well haven't got a Tom tom account. But I'll look into one since I know how frustrating garmin is. Happy holidays

It does in the short time I've tested it. It was accurate. But, I only tried it in California.
Thanks
