    It's a music track that really shows that Marko is also a talented singer, who easily could be the lead singer in a world-class band. There's just so much talent in Nightwish 🙂

    Nightwish doesn't do anything innovative? Yes, they do a lot of heavier stuff, but they do more variety than almost any other band, they experiment more than most other bands, etc. I don't know that it is possible to truly be "innovative" in music, but they are the band that is the closest to that word on the planet.

      I didn't quite understand that comment. Is it just that he's not very familiar with Nightwish, or maybe metal in general? If you're not familiar with a genre much can sound the same. But Nightwish is so diverse.

    Well, Floor would not have sung, even if they did not opt for Marko to leadsing this, as this was in 2005/End of an Era. Which was still Tarja era Nightwish, some 7 years before Floor joined.

    I prefer this version even though yes it’s a cover from a compositional standpoint because I just found the bell very monotonous in the Pink Floyd original, not saying it’s bad but I prefer the keyboards from Tuomas.
    Emppu (guitarist) is underrated as f whether he’s playing classic or d tuning.
    You should try symphony of destruction Megadeth cover by Nightwish it’ll melt your face off.

    End of an Era, 2005 concert, the one after which they parted ways with their first vocalist, Tarja Turunen. So it was a long, long time before she came around. Also, Captain Jack Sparrow on the keyboards is Tuomas, Nightwish founder, lead composer and lyricist, so he will always be there. Bassist's name is Marco Hietala.

    Jack Sparrow IS Nightwish, being that he's the founder and songwriter of the band. Only 2 original members remain. As for innovation, I think back in the late 90s they were the first to do "opera metal" and later became "soundtrack score metal". It would not be metal if they did not create their own sub-genre ))))

      " Only 2 original members remain" .....???
      Nightwish first met in Kitee in 1996. At that time, the band had three members: keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen, singer Tarja Turunen and guitarist Erno “Emppu” Vuorinen.

      @@npinjest7779 In the beginning there was only acoustic guitar, keyboards and vocals. The idea was originally to play acoustic mood music, by no means metal music. The following year, the acoustic guitar was replaced with an electric guitar and drums also came along.

    • @npinjest7779
      @npinjest7779 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Huckfinn37 I am familiar with the history, I just tend to ignore the less pertinent parts. NW is a metal band and metal requires a distorted guitar, so the brief acoustic phase is curious, but ultimately a footnote. Pick up electric guitar and add a drummer? Now you've got yourself a metal band. Add a bass player and release a killer sophomore album and you are no longer a footnote)))) I suspect even TH thinks everything before Oceanborn was gestation.))))

    To be honest. It's hard to be innovative in the music business nowadays. There is hardly anything you can do, which hasn't be done by someone else before.
    Besides. I don't really agree with you. I don't know any other band that does songs like "Ghost Love Score", "The Poet and the Pendulum", "The Greatest Show on Earth" or even smaller songs like Scaretale: th-cam.com/video/5EmpS8E7d30/w-d-xo.html
    So at least they are unique and to be unique you have to be at least a little bit innovative i think.

    • @Sang-Drax
      @Sang-Drax 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with him that Nightwish isn't that innovative, Tuomas is an amazing composer but I bet he would be the first to admit that he has walked in the footsteps of those that came before him whether it be the proto-symphonic metal bands that paved the way or the movie score composers that he obviously admires.
      But that said it doesn't take away from the uniqueness of his own composing style, and Nightwish is pretty firmly at the top of their own niche so nowadays Nightwish is definitely the one influencing other bands and not the other way around.

    • @d34d10ck
      @d34d10ck 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Everybody walks in the footsteps of those who came before them. That's actually the definition of innovation.
      Nobody is re-inventing music from scratch. The invention part is over.
      PS: And if you are saying that songs like the ones i named are not innovative, than it should be easy for you to name similar ones, that already exist by other bands.
      In my view, everything that's unique must be innovative.

    Gilmour plays that first solo on a nylon string guitar and the second solo is on a slide lap guitar, so it gives the song a much more thoughtful and airy feel, along with Gilmour's more soothing vocals, it's a song of reminiscence. This version is more harsh and darker. Like the moments being sung about don't hold the most pleasant of memories.

    Im a little sad that Floor didnt make an appearance, even as backing vocals. This era of Floyd had some great backing female vocals.

      Floor wasn't in the band at that time. This live show is from the Tarja era.

      @@emanuelsolsjo7348 Oh thanks! I wasnt aware of the recording date. But still, if you have a powerhouse like Tarja at your disposal.....

    I think if you listen again, you'll find a lot of poignancy and hidden subtlety in Marco's singing here.

    Funny, Jim. I searched and couldn't find Poet and the Pendulum. Still can't find it. YT must have deleted it!

    So you didn't really care for Nightwish sound then ? Bc you did a few and then haven't listened in years? ( At the time of this comment anyways)

      I have listened to plenty of Nightwish - I have bought quite a few records and listen to them away from the camera. The videos are usually for first listens. Suggest a song and if I've not heard it I'll give it a go!
