  • The REFRESHED 2020 Honda Civic is hitting dealerships. On the exterior there have been changes made to try to correct some complaints. New wheels and body work are some of the big standouts. Under the hood is the 1.5L turbocharged inline-4 mated to with a 6-speed manual or CVT transmission. On inside there are some upgrades including a touchscreen infotainment system, and interior trim pieces. Did Honda take the 2020 Civic Sport Hatchback in the right direction?

    • @williamsxvi20
      @williamsxvi20 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      hoping they put that exhaust on the 2020 SI, literally the only thing I don't like about the SI is the ugly a** exhaust and I dont want to buy the car just to spend another $2000 to put on another exhaust.

    • @jjacob25101
      @jjacob25101 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When I first saw the Si exhaust, I wasn't thrilled, but it grew on me, and I like it, also on the Civic Sport Sedan, which I plan to get, especially now if it has the new wheels. I like the old ones, but these are even nicer. I am sure it will get the new wheels because the Sport Hatchback has all the Sport Sedan options and equipment it was missing in 2019. The truth is, the dual round exhaust looks better on the hatchback, and not as much on the sedan body style. Maybe the coupe, since it looks more aggressive.
      And there are several other cars, like Porsches that have rectangular or horizontal slot type center mount exhaust tips like that. And several that have one on either end of the bumper, that no one seems to complain about. Except for the lame fake ones, like on the new Toyota Corolla Hatchback.

    I found the information for these updates about two weeks ago on www.netcarshow.com
    Basically, other than the redo of the front and rear outer lower bumper panels, the 2020 Civic Sport Hatchback gets all of the things the Civic Sport Sedan had, that it didnt. The keyless entry/pushbutton start, upgraded infotainment system, leatherette trim on the seating, door armrest and center console, and the black golf ball dimple pattern dashboard trim. It also has improved sound deadening at the fenders and the rear hatch area. I believe all Civic trims get new wheels, with the already nice Sport trim wheels replaced with these even nicer ones, which I believe will also be on the Sport Sedan.
    On the Sport Touring Hatchback, blackwood style dashboard trim pieces, and the 6 speed manual is finally available, when previously only available in Canada.
    I was disappointed the Sport Hatchback didn't have all those additions last year, but realized the Sport Sedan would be better for me, now, even more so with the new wheels. I will probably try to get hold of a 6 speed when I am ready to get it, for improved performance and reliability.
    The cosmetic refresh is fine with me, as the I had no real issues with the previous one. The sedan with the different trim should be mostly unchanged for 2020, except for the updated wheels.
    IMHO, I believe the Sport Hatchback and Sedan are the best equipped sport trim performance oriented vehicles for the price range, for their respective target consumers. The Hatchback for the more enthusiast oriented, and the Sedan/Coupe for the more practical and reliable daily driver. The Toyota Corolla is nice, but only the SE and XSE has the higher output engine. The innovative CVT with the physical first gear is cool, but got recalled, hopefully had the problem rectified, and the intelligent manual 6 speed with the rev matching and anti stall assist also is great, as well as the optional 800 watt JBL sound system. But the manual is only available in the SE and not the XSE for the Sedan, and they don't have a more readily tunable performance offering like the Civic Sport Hatchback, albeit, there is only a 10 HP difference in stock configuration.
    But the Honda Civic Sport Sedan/Coupe and Hatchback beat the Corolla at SE trim for everything else at the price point. The JBL stereo is optional and 800 watts, and Android Auto is at this time only available on the 2020 TRD models and Camry. The updated Civic system from the 2019 Sedan/Coupe is standard , and now in the Sport Hatchback for 2020, and Alpine offers an add on processor/amp, and subwoofer kit. The Civic lacks the standard Corolla auxiliary audio input jack, but that can be added by a car stereo shop, or I believe they have a USB-A to 1/8" mini jack dongle available that should work on data USB jack connections, like they have the USB-C version for smartphones without a headphone jack. The Corolla also lacks the CD player the Camry has, even with the JBL option.
    And the Civic Sport Touring Hatchback has more to offer than the Corolla XSE Hatchback for the same price range.
    Overall, I am happy with the updates, especially if I still planned to get the Civic Sport Hatchback. With the updates, there is not much more that the Sport Touring has, except higher output stereo with more speakers and subwoofer, full leather seats, sunroof, dual zone A/C and power adjust seats, all I can do without, and save a while lot of money. Plus the Honda Sensing package was added to all Civic trims for 2019.
    And the Civic Sport Sedan is much cheaper now. For 2019, it was about the same as the Sport Hatchback, but the tradeoff is the latter lacked all the goodies it got this year, which raised the price for the turbo version up a bit...

    • @jjacob25101

      Now that the 2020 Sport Hatchback has all the goodies it was missing from the 2019 Sport Sedan/Coupe, I would be tempted to get this over the latter is I had the extra dinero, but would be tempted to also spend money on some of the aftermarket dress up and suspension upgrade parts. And the Alpine stereo hop up digital signal processor, among, and powered subwoofer. Those body color accents added are nice, and I am liking that Sonic Greay Pearl again, over the Aegean Blue Metallic.

    I have a 2017 civic EX-L. Two things I don't like about it. Number one, the steering. It's okay at slow speeds, but at interstate highway speed it feels like there's NO on center tendency to it. It really requires the driver to concentrate on holding the steering wheel straight. I'm told it's because it's electric steering. On a long trip, the steering becomes a source of irritation. Number two is the CVT transmission. I just can't get used to the droning noise of the CVT transmission. Also in hot weather, when there's less available engine power, the CVT lets the engine rev, a lot higher for acceleration. I wish Honda would make the 6 speed manual, standard equipment on all civics, and the CVT an option, for folks that have to have an automatic. Really, a car like this that has a lively turbocharged 1.5 liter engine, begs for a manual transmission. I've been thinking about selling my 17 and getting another one, but to be honest..... the steering makes the car a disappointment.

    • @jjacob25101
      @jjacob25101 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, as iMiguelAOG stated, I believe the Civic Sport Hatchback and all other hatchback trim levels above the base LX, and all Civic Sedans, I believe above the Sport, from the EX and up have the 1.5L turbo engine with the Sport Hatchback and Sport Touring Hatchback having slightly more horsepower due to engine tuning calibration, and the center mounted dual exhaust.
      The Civic LX and Sport Sedan/Coupe have the base 2.0L non turbo engine with the CVT, or 6 speed manual. Automotive manufacturers use the CVT in almost all smaller vehicles with automatic transmissions due to fuel economy and overall production cost. You are not going to get a conventional automatic transmission in a smaller car with a few exceptions. The only one I can think of off hand right now is the Acura ILX, that has the 2.4L non turbo V-tech engine from the former Civic Si, mated to one of the best DCT transmissions. To get a 6, 8, or 10 Speed automatic, you have to upgrade to an Accord, Toyota Camry, or possibly other larger vehicles.

It is exactly what I thought Honda needed to do to this trim level. It didn't make sense before that the Sport Hatch didn't have the same equipment as the sport coupe and sedan, having to use a key and that crappy entry level radio. I may actually prefer this over the SI now.

      Wayne Driggers I was deciding on getting the Si sedan but the fix a flat only option scares me during those long drive trips. If I only known that the 2020 sport hatch (6 speed) will have the new keyless entry, push button start and upgraded radio infotainement system, I will pick this one over the Si since this comes with the spare tire donut. Fortunately, in the end I picked up the Accord Sport 2.0t 10 speed auto 😄. I gave the sport 2.0t 6 speed a try but too jumpy in 1st and 2nd gear (plus the rev hang) and decided that the 10 speed manages power delivery way better with those quick shifts.
