Had both amps and still own yamaha. It's stunning with all genres but will be dependent on how precisely set up your gear is and how well matched. My setup is Technics sl 1210mk2, As701, Schiit mani phono, achoustic energy evo 3 speakers and solid core dnm cables. It's heaven to listen too. Also use RSP to set up your speakers and concertmeister basio dampers.
that ceramic ,porcelain or marbled tile will always make an echo in sound. ..always liked old skool amps yamaha sounds real smooth and its a entry level amp nad had to mutch hi's but still a good quality brand
Diana Krall - The vocals sounded smoother on the Yamaha. Metallica - sounded better on NAD. The distortion on the guitars sounded better on the Nad than the yamaha. I find generally speakers NADs are good for rock and Yamahas good for Jazz and soul. I like the yamaha sound but you really need to get the right speakers. I find Yamahas work well with speakers with a big box than can produce a bit of bottom end which tend to balance the Yamaha amps well.
I own the YAMAHA but i has a Sub-Bass Peeper too and set the Crossover-Frequencies by 160-20HZ and the Mainpeeper has the lowest at 50HZ. That means that the Bass has Punch+Volume+Kick and Punch is good for Metal. I use more Speekers and the Guitars sounded room-filled on my settings. I think for your peeper setting is the NAD the better choice, for my peeper setting is the YAMAHA the better choice.
Though NAD may not be as smooth as yamaha, NAD biggest strength is to present the music in the original rythmn which even amps costing more than NAD are unable to do.
Someone complain in a coment that Nad had rush tempo (know what i mean , i can confirm after 3:30 min , something 😊like a party -party zone ) Butneah ITS the S-o blamed audiopheel blamed 😉
My phone was the winner as, doing a subjective sound test via youtube does not portray the true sound the listener experiences. It all sound awful.... Would be helpful if the poster actually described what he heard between the two units...👍
Both amps are in the same price range and have nearly the same specs. The Yamaha sounded slightly better. I have the Yamaha A-S300 and for the $300 I paid, nothing comes close. The A-S300 sounds like your A-S700 but has only 65 Watts of power. Nice comparison.
NAD. Yamaha with Monitor Audio just too bright for me.Always been my feeling about Yamaha, although I haven't really listened to any of their stuff in like 15+ years, so I was hoping that had mellowed. Nope. And the Monitor Audio I've heard has sounded the same. I don't know how you can listen to the combo without blood coming from your ears.
I think that the monitor audio downgrade the sound (brightness,sibilance,harshness).Right,blood from your ears.Reviews from as701 say it is not bright sounding ??

Vocals and clarity the Yamaha... but the distorted guitar sounded much nicer on the NAD.

The NAD amp is much smoother, ambient and cleaner sounding than the Yamaha on both the Diana Krall and Metallica tracks. NAD is the hands down winner.
