The ESP has more growl and low end. The Jackson has more scream and high end. So, in my opinion, both are excellent. But, some EQ adjusting would have to be done to make up for each model's weaknesses and pluses.

The ESP has 2 less frets on the neck, that extra space between the humbuckers because of it creates more warmth in the overall sound one reason why some players prefer a 22 fret neck over a 24 fret, even when the company they play most or endorse has both options available.

He was in Mystic Prophecy too. Gus is awesome, his solo material is so melodic, not just shredding for the sake of shredding, he instills melody in his instrumentals. Great player.

They both sound awesome. But if you consider buying the Jackson model, but are disappointed that it doesn't have a tremolo, consider buying a Warrior. They have the same pick ups and the body is made of poplar, just like the Gus G model, and it has a Jackson Floyd Rose licensed tremolo.

Check out Akira Takasaki's Killer guitars. He was an early ESP guy and used the Random Star. Then, he started his Killer guitar company and his main guitar, the KG Prime, is a sharper version of a Random Star. Some of them are really gorgeous with price tags to match, but they make an economy model, too, with the same shape. It's called something like the KG Pirates or KG Stallion.

I’m a bit biased because I tend to have busy mixes but I’m gonna lean towards the ESP version, the Jackson sounds really nice but if I’m gonna stack say up to 11 guitar tracks in extreme scenarios I feel like it could get messy with that extra punch. Both guitars sound amazing though

I haven't had the pleasure of trying the Jackson model, but I am lucky enough to have come across a real-deal 2008 Gus G model (the one with the floyd) that's ended up being my favorite guitar in years. But what really gets me is just how surprisingly comfy the star shape is? To the point I'm considering picking up the Jackson variant as well if not an LTD-600 version if one pops up. It's that sleek and sweet.

  • @Cyclobomber

Interestingly enough this star shape is partly based on stuff like the ESP Star from 84, and is a cross between the Randy Rhoades (bottom) and the Explorer (top). It's also the shape of the East German Musima MH-X guitar (a pretty cool double-humbucker, coil-split neck pickup and floyd-type locking trem guitar, the very last Soviet guitar, so to speak, produced between 87 and 89).
There's a big chance Gus G played on such a guitar since many of those instruments were still sold at pawn shops everywhere in Eastern Europe for relatively cheap. He probably really liked the shape and wanted it back.

I'm not too picky when it comes to neck profiles so I can't really comment on that, but the Jackson sounds a little bit wider on the overdrive, I think it has a little bit better harmonics but it's a bit of a tossup, because it also sounds like you could easily muddy the high-end if you push them too far (which you are doing with your sound, in my opinion, but of course that's down to preference), but I'd say the clean tones are a lot better on the jackson, it just sounds a little bit more articulate, a little bit more of a richer sound that you can work with for effects and other stuff, the LTD sounds compressed and plain, a little bit like an Epiphone Les Paul sounds on stock pickups.

Always loved the star shape. I thought back in the day DiMarzio made one. I think Kane Roberts used one. I have always loved the Carvin/Kiesel V220 ever since I saw it in the catalog in the 80's. I couldn't afford one back then, and when they brought them back no lefty was offered. Now it is, but I have owned 2 Carvin. A B20 bass, and a bolt kit I built, put dimarzio in it, and had Pat Wilkins finish it for me. (this, and my schecter Reaper are my 2 main guitars out of the 20 I own) He is hands down one of the best. I'm sure Max has heard of him. He builds custome bass's, and guitars. Give his site a look. But I digress. Carvins have gotten to pricey compared to what you can get elsewhere.
Maybe someday I'll pull the trigger on one.
OK enough on star guitars. I preferred the ESP. The sound, and look just gave it a little edge over the Jackson, and I love Jackson's.

The ESP / LTD GUS 200, and the white one is the Jackson GUS G JS Series.

Jackson wins in terms of ergonomics. Rounder edge radius on top of the bevels from what I can attest, plus the location of the output jack.

I play a Jackson Dinky USA but have quite a variety of guitars and I say Jackson all day on the stock pickups and the Jackson USA pickups beat the ESP high end as well Rock On Max the Jackson Necks and Tone is just way better!!

I literally can't ell a difference between the sound of the two guitars at all. So I'd go for the playability.

Ltd plays better and pickups are not mushy or muddy..Jackson’s pickups are not a fav of mine , jackson pickups would go in the trash and install some duncans

The Kramer Voyager guitars are the ones that started that style of guitar.

I had one of those with a huge upper wing with which I used to slam into everything. It had a real Floyd but without fine tuners. Just too awkward to wield. I think Akira's KG Prime refined the design to the ultimate star shape. You don't see too many of those. I had the cheaper version called the Starrion, which was the same shape but the build quality just wasn't there.

The Jackson sounds crisper, more defined, and, I agree, it's brighter.

I would like to hear the Jackson with a set of DiMarzio Humbuckers like I use on my PRS 245 my bridge pickup is the 30 anniversary DiMarizo Super Humbucker talk about dirty.

Jackson just nailed it! That backing track killed my ears though. Seems the LTD really mushy overtones in the lower notes.

You should review the 'Slick' guitars , quite cheap guitars but are ment to be really good

I was going to get one for my nephews, but there were a couple of issues: they are said to be extremely heavy and you need to mess with that recessed brass tailpiece/bridge just to change strings.
