I think you kind of missed something important, in that Jack in Tekken 1 is stated to have been made in the former Soviet Union which would mean that Tekken 1 would have to take place after the Soviet Union dissolved which was in like 1991.
So the events of the first game would have to have been in the 90s meaning that the Tekken Force raid in Tekken 4 would have been in 2015 (Christmas was on a Friday that year) and that the first Tekken Tournament would have been in 1993. (I'm no math major, but I think that math adds up)
Regardless, this video was really well put together.

I think fighting game stories often overdo it when it comes to the plot. Not everything has to be an end of the world doomsday plot. All you need to do is emphasize character motivations in the backdrop of the tournament. Show us why they want to win so badly and why the tournament prize is so important to them. That's why fighting game stories are so compelling for the first one or two games then quickly get out of hand.

Belart Wright Occult Gaming tekken does a great job with this if I count from tekken 1 to 5 they rest where world dooms day plots and oh my god I remember when I found out that jin was kazuya son that was a mind blown thing at the time especially jin was a very sort of hidden story at the time.

If you ever plan on revisiting the Soul Calibur series, a really interesting development occurred in Cassandra's Soul Chronicle. Read more for spoilers.
The OG timeline's Cassandra actually ends up spat in the new timeline, malfested for whatever reason and fights the new timeline's Cassandra in a fit of insanity. She ends up sharing knowledge of her future to her past/alternate-past self, meaning that a whole bunch of stuff that happened to Sophie and the Alexandras may never happen in the new timeline thanks to Cass' intervention. It was also really sad to see the bubbly and energetic Cassandra reduced to a malfested swordswoman swinging her sword at anyone she deemed to be an obstacle in defending Sophie. It's unclear what happens to OG!Cass after this happens, literally vanishing. It's possible that in sharing the information to New!Cass, she back-to-the-futured herself out of existance, she simply died and dissipated like Nightmare in SCV's intro, or if the Astral Chaos took her back.

I just wanna say that Tekken's story arc is how I wished a lot of other story arcs happened. But a lot of writers didn't have the balls to replace the main character or have the hero of the story become a villain.
Soul Calibur even did the same thing for a bit and made an honest attempt in V to keep up with the torch passing... but they made shitty characters no one likes instead of someone like Jin.

Awesome video. Been looking forward to this one for a while. Can't wait to see what you think of SC6's story. I think it is just a retelling of past events and not some major alteration to the main canon besides the fact that is would take the of SC1 in the timeline but I am not too sure either since I haven't played the story yet.
Also, I think Azazel is a being from the Astral Chaos considering in Tekken 6, he said that he is from a "higher plain of existence", plus, I think he is connected to Soul Edge. Either he is some sort of malfested being that is influenced by Soul Edge or is Soul Edge/Inferno that manifested into a new body that is somewhat similar to Night Terror (the first option is probably more likely) since how he is awaken is kind similar to how Soul Edge gets it's power, bloodshed and death and in the intro of Tekken 6, we see Azazel imprisoned with a bunch of crystals impaling Azazel which could possibly be crystals that came from Soul Calibur. I can talk about this crap for hours, I really love this shared universe theory.

Remember when the Devil Gene was portrayed as more of a sepearate entity before the Hachijo retcon? I think it could be possible that the Devil Gene is basically the spirit of Soul Edge (Inferno) taking form once again, centuries later. I mean it makes sense considering the names "Devil" and "Inferno (meaning Hell)" have strong connotations with each other...
Also I just wanna say that Jin and Siegfried are very similar characters. Both of them have internal struggles with their inner demons and both of them committed atrocities. Siegfried went through a redemption arc in III while Jin is likely gonna hvae the same treatment in Tekken 8.

Fighting games with stories tend to fall apart after the 5th/6th installments. Tekken 5 and MK Deadly Alliance/Deception are the best games from this time period. But after doing something new everything just falls apart, stories get unnecessarily complicated, characters are created and thrown into scenarios just for plot. And the timeline starts looking like a crazy straw until the inevitable reboot comes along to try and make sense of things which surprisingly doesn’t end up working (MK9). Instead of rebooting and changing a story; take the games that were restricted by technology and show us how they played out. Imagine actually seeing the actual Mortal Kombat/Tekken tournaments build up to the conclusion we know without a dumb plot change(Kung Lao, and every earth hero dying that isn’t Johnny Cage or Sonya Blade)

    • @UnifiedEntity

so akuma in tekken 7 is an alternate akuma, still, if so, that would mean street fighter and tekken's universe coexist in the same realm the difference is that lets say in the tekken franchise, major antagonists from other franchises who would have a big impact on the world and could involve heihachi and other tekken characters such as bison, seth, urien, gill and even rugal from the king of fighters franchise. but because tekken's story follows as is with it's own major antagonists we could say that in the world of tekken, something happened to bison to where he perished earlier at some point of he was just unsuccessful to where his organizational plan "shadaloo" failed for some reason along with the illuminati which didn't give rise either, with the entry with geese howard his existence in tekken and not play a big major role like he did in the fatal fury/king of fighters games could be some alteration where his brother and his brother's kids (terry bogard and andy bogard) died or was left irrelevant to geese to not trigger the main events from those games to where his role in tekken is more solo and smaller. however, with the appearance of akuma theres possibly a chance where ryu may still be alive or could be dead which could question akuma's purpose in living on. his involvement with kazumi where she saved him from "something" could be the result of him going insane with power perhaps while he was undergoing intense training or a certain fight with someone. though, with street fighter x tekken, it's also canon but takes place in an alternate time period where most major antagonists coexist all at once making a big uproar fighting each other cause of a "pandora's box" sent from ingrid - a character from the street fighter franchise. for the most part street fighter and tekken are connected but vary under major event differences to where some major antagonists don't play a big role that would have an effect on either franchise which makes them as a whole as JUST street fighter or JUST tekken.

so that means in the tekken universe gouken, ryu and ken never existed?

    • @spyro115
      @spyro115 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

they did, though taking from what the4thsnake said where this is probably an alternate akuma where chances are ryu could have been dead probably not giving akuma much of a purpose since he mainly focuses on ryu. though from my theory, because tekken and street fighter is connected ever since street fighter x tekken and the canon tekken storyline including akuma, it's likely possible that major events in street fighter can only happen if heihachi, the mishima zaibatsu and jin wasn't around since the organization such as shadaloo would have gotten involved and attempt to use heihachi and the mishima zaibatsu and perhaps even the G corporation for their gain, especially since when jin took over the mishima zaibatsu waging war on the world, that would have a major impact on shadaloo and bring about some hectic events in street fighter which never occurred in any way. for major events to happen in tekken? same thing as i explained.

Huh, I always assumed the first two Tekkens took place in the respective years they were released with every other game following suite with the canonical time spans between installments. Never really took into account about the dates and what years they would actually take place in. I always liked the idea of both this and the Soul series taking place in the same universe, and I like seeing other people's takes on it, let's hope Tekken 8 has a somewhat competent story.
Also is it wrong for me to think Jin's outfit in 7 looks kinda cool?

    • @The4thSnake
      @The4thSnake  5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

I can't blame you, really. When the series suggests there are 4 martial arts tournaments held in one year by the same corporation, you can't expect anyone to put much thought into the timeframe.
And no, that's fine. Jin's always been an appeal to edge and I guess there are just different types of edge to appreciate and despise. I love Devil Jn's design, for instance.

I explained about a hundred times that I know Evil ryu is a what if character,I was trying to say that for super street fighter 4 what if evil ryu's story is actually many years into the past and that it's actually young gouki's story but capcom is using (evil)ryu as a metaphor to portray young gouki. and maybe evil ryu is being used as a symbolic character, maybe symbolizing that gouki was once like ryu before becoming akuma and the real ryu fears he may become like akuma, which is why he continues to reject the satsui no hado I should have been more clear.

After this Kazumi realizes Heihachi needs to be stopped but is conflicted, thus her devil form takes matters into its own hands and due to being unable to control her feelings the devil form takes complete control. Rite on pretty spot on in about few hrs I’m going to my beloved retro game store to get SC6 I’m really excited it looks promising in spite of it being a reboot timeline I have high hopes that it doesn’t go the MK 2011 route it seems like with the disappointment of SC5 they would have had no choice but to discontinue that continuity and perhaps when they get to the events of SC4 they altar the the events timeline or something with SC6 however not so much so as changing everything but going into more depth into the lore that we missed during SC and SC2 era that’s my speculation I guess. It’s pretty kool I personally didn’t mind later post Tekken 6 story myself the problem I see is that a debut introduction of characters like Kazumi or Jinpachi are seemingly significant characters you would expect to have been introudced early on in the franchise.

While I am aware that the only game that likely shares the same universe with Tekken is Soul Calibur it is still fun to look at all the crossovers and imagine they exist because of a shared universe. With all the crossovers that are stated to be within the same timelines, as in, a character is said to have traveled to the past or future or simply exists in the world with no multiverse plots, this would mean that not only does Tekken exist with Soul Calibur due to Yoshimitsu and Heihachi's story in 2 saying he came to the past, Street Fighter exists in this shared universe as well due to SF X T and T7 (head canon wise, not actual canon). It gets deeper however as another fighting game franchise added into this shared universe, Mortal Kombat. The connecting thread here is Kratos from God of War who in both Soul Calibur and MK is said to have been ripped from time to be brought into the current events of the game, implying he exists in the past of these games and thus connects Soul Calibur (with Tekken and Street Fighter) with MK with God of War also being a part of this universe. Another franchise that can also connect MK with Soul Calibur is Spawn assuming his MK11 story doesn't involve him coming from a different universe like Joker. In Soul Calibur 2 he is also stated to have traveled into the past, not into a different universe like Link and the Starwars characters have so this also implies that Spawn is in the same timeline as Soul Calibur and Tekken. We get some other crossovers as well with Freddy in MK9 who also seems to have always existed in MK and Freddy, Jason and Ashley Williams exist in the same universe as well with Jason also showing up in MK as seemingly a normal part of it and not a different universe sort of deal. Leather Face also exists here and so do Xenomorphs and Predators (I am unsure what their actual species name is) so quite a large amount of horror franchises exist in this massive, hypothetical shared universe. To make it even bigger through the use of a set of crossover fighting games, all of Capcom exists in this shared universe as well as implied by the Marvel vs Capcom series as all the Capcom characters are shown to exist on one specific Earth separate from the Marvel one and Infinite also shows this since Jedah implies that all the Capcom characters come from his universe specifically so Resident Evil, Dead Rising, Megaman, Dark Stalkers, all this also exists within this shared universe and Rival Schools and Final Fight already existed in Street Fighter so they were already a part of it. The one final connection I can come up with that I got wrong in the past (I thought she was a Gundam character for some reason) is Angol Fear in Soul Calibur 4 being the cousin of a character from the Sgt Frog series, Angol Mois. Basically, with all these guest characters and crossover fighting games, this can imply a massive shared universe with dozens of horror characters, demons, whole mythologies of gods, aliens and advanced technology that is destined to one day destroy the planet. I do agree that only Soul Calibur is actually likely canon to Tekken and the rest are just non canon crossovers but its still fun to imagine all these things existing at once. Would be a pretty crazy universe however, especially since a LOOOOT of these series abuse time travel so god knows if they would all even exist in a single timeline if they did share a universe.

    Nice job, man.
Soul calibur vi basically retells the events between the end of soul edge and the beginning of sc2, giving every character his spotlight.
By now, i haven't noticed any real change from the original lore.
At best, there are some points where they expect the fans to know some stuff they don't tell.
I won't spoil, even if i don't if it can count as a spoiler XD
About tekken story... I too hate they cut down Jun immediately. Asuka is not the same, and she doesn't really affect the story, despite being named Kazama -_-
Tekken 6 story is a little hard to believe (the illegitimate child of Heihachi comes out of nowhere and takes the spotlight from Kazuya and Jin, who are presumably fighting for the fate of the world -_- ).
I do like Lars, but i think that story was a little unfocused.
In tekken 7 they tried to make the origins of the series more clear, introducing Kazumi and giving a new point of view on Heihachi's story.
I'm ok with this last point, but i have to admit Kazumi's background was a little stupid... Or at least, as they have explained it, it was -_-

@@GhostFan-ev4di yeah, Akuma in the story was a little forced, but i don't mind him that much.
His contributes to the story might be even forgotten (basically, he fights Heihachi and Kazuya XD ).
It's the plan of Kazumi's family i don't understand: "you have a devil gene no one knows inside you... Go befriend Heihachi, our enemy, and maybe marry him and have a child. Only then, you can kill him" XD
sure, bring a worse calamity than heihachi to the world, and then try to kill him. nice plan XD
in the end, they tried to convince us Kazumi really loved heihachi and tried to kill him just because she was possessed by the devil. But all of that would mean that the part where her family sent her to kill him in the first place should be completely removed.
I mean, be consistent. I am not going to forget those details in a 4 hour long story mode -_-

I rather like to simply think that the Hachijo clan had some of its members be afflicted by the Malfested in Soul Calibur which after years forward progressing through the Tekken timeline has now been called the Devil Gene. Let me put my take is possible:
Soul Calibur 6 since its the remake in a sense storywise has us following the tale about Soul Edge and Soul Calibur and as the time goes on with people going after Soul Edge for their own reasons be it conquest and all, once was destroyed, its fragments remains as some sort of beacon for disaster and may have left its residual to some people specifically the Hachijo clan, who was afflicted by said Malfestation residue left by Soul Edge and for years, after the Soul Calibur timeline, Heihachi is born.
So on and so forth, Heihachi has thirst for world conquest and is denied to inherit the Mishima Zaibatsu and Heihachi staged a coup against Jinpachi after he married Kazumi who somewhere around the time had assisted Akuma maybe saving him from a near death experience or saved his life when he's dying and promised to Kazumi to honor Kazumi's request to have Heihachi and Kazuya killed.
Time forward after the first Iron Fist Tournament, Kazuya met Jun Kazama and had a child and now said child is out for blood after Ogre hunted who supposedly killed Jun and went under training with Heihachi and so on so forth. As the "Devil Gene" awakened, it is essentially a reawakening of a fragment of Soul Edge's power that lay dormant within those who still have their bloodline affected by the Malfested, unleashed upon the world once again and presumably that Angel, is probably the race that we see within the Character Creation screen in Soul Calibur 6, who are angelic holy being who desired for peace.
Currently, Yoshimitsu within the modern time Tekken hadn't been aware of the Soul Edge curse is still alive under a different brand that being the Devil Gene since it is best to assume that this modern time Yoshimitsu knows about the Soul Edge curse given that his clan has a deep history with said accursed sword. WIth Yoshimitsu unaware the heavy gravitational magnitude threat the Devil Gene posses as it happened last time in the Soul Calibur timeline, it is only a matter of time before Yoshimitsu has to take the mantle and step up to intervene against a curse well known by his clan and people.

If Heihachi during his time was sent there by a work in progress time machine that went haywire; sending Heihachi to the time of Soul Calibur II? Course, unless there’s a way to get him home earlier, he would have to be canon in Soul Calibur 2, and its sequel till he could be sent back to Tekken possibly by Zasalamel. But then huge changes in the timeline would happen.
