Yes! She has a collection of short stories, “The Complete Stories of Leonora Carrington” that I really want to get to! I read “The Hearing Trumpet” a couple months back now and it was amazing!

Ah, Virginia Woolf: yes, anything by her is unforgettable. I think 'To the Lighthouse' is my favourite - but, I love the lot! And 'The Hours' is such a powerful novel-turned-feature film. Both the book & film really should come with a trigger warning, so raw & powerful, the majesty of the greatest art.
"To the Lighthouse" was the first I read from her, but I think it needs a re-read now that I am more used to her writing style. I want to read "The Hours" very soon!

I read the the hearing trumpet in 2020 when I lived in the UK and loved it! I still think of it now but never hear of anyone that has read it. I have never seen it for sale here in Australia which is sad as I would buy it to reread it, wish it was more popular here. Enjoy it, it's an amazing novel.

I am old, & been lucky enough to make reading/writing my career (poetry, criticism & literary essays), & have recently retired into a tiny home, thus freeing up some resources for absolute indulgences like The Folio Society from London. I am in heaven.

I loved this video! I like how you are bringing attention to independent, secondhand bookstores in your area and provide me with a general idea as to what kinds of books they sell. I would suggest that if you do this again to list the name of the bookstore in addition to its address. I know that you mention it, but I think it would be better to have them together. I have not been to Chicago, but I would definitely keep these in mind and look into other bookstores if I ever plan to visit. I am the kind of person that would build a trip around visiting bookstores. I acquired some Wallace Stegner content, but I need to look back to see exactly what it was that I acquired. I, too, really enjoy the work of Virginia Woolf. Her short stories/essays have been the most intriguing to me thus far, be it The Mark on the Wall or Kew Gardens, but I would like to read more of her books/novels. I read Orlando and did not like it. Flush looks quite fascinating, though. I like that you have quite a few books published by New York Review Books. I had a haul of them when I was subscribed to them and was able to take part in a 50% off sale that they held. The Door looks fascinating as a story, though. I read Jakob von Gunten by Robert Walser and Stoner by John Williams that were published by them. That Elizabeth Gaskill collection looks really good! I know a lot of people like to save their horror for October. I like to save it for when I am in the mood. I spent the heart of winter primarily reading horror. I remember my winter break during my first semester of college and how I read IT by Stephen King. It was so long and at the pace I was reading, I was still reading it into the spring semester. I do like when bookstores give you bookmarks. I like to use the bookmark that coincides with the store in which I bought the book. Five Days at Memorial sounds especially fascinating. It reminds me of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and though the original story was not set during this time, the film had Daisy as a patient at this hospital. I will be inclined to look into Habibi as well. I loved Persepolis! I thought it was very informative and enlightening and I like the job Marjane Satrapi did with that book. I like the way you went about this haul. I tend to buy more books during each of my visits and create hauls for each bookstore I visit. Thank you for sharing! -Josh

Are there any books you recommend with women who get obsessed to things like you were talking about?
Oh I have many (I should make a video)! For classics I’d recommend “The Bell Jar” by Sylvia Plath, “Rebecca” by Daphne DuMaurier, “The Turn of the Screw” by Henry James. I’d also recommend “The Virgin Suicides” by Jeffrey Eugenides, and “Eileen” by Otessa Moshfegh for more contemporary picks. Theater also does this really well, if you’re into reading plays I’d recommend “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” by Edward Albee, “The Maids” by Jean Genet, “The Beauty Queen of Leenane” by Martin McDonaugh, and “Dance Nation” by Clare Barron. Stephen King also does this concept well with “Carrie” and “Misery”
Flush is a joy to read! I read it in one sitting on a long train journey a few years ago and it even made me tear up by the end because I got so attached to Flush as a character and following his life.
Any story with a dog is guaranteed to make me cry 🥹
