    From the looks of this video an epic ride like this would have been the cherry on top of my 55 years on earth. Because I missed this ride I'll have to settle for watching it on TH-cam.
    Thanks for another amazing video

    Don't know how I was recommended this, but wowee this looks awesome :D Hopefully people are still doing this now, and it's amazing that people over in the States are able to re-purpose old and abandoned railways. In the UK they either get turned into preserved/heritage railways, reconnected back onto the mainline, or just flat out removed...
    Also, in the UK, a lot of mainlines carry 25kV AC overheads so you couldn't do this on the mainlines even if there were no trains on the tracks.

    I grew up in a small town in WI. had the Burlington Route / Great Northern on one side of town, and the C&NW on the other, they had the put put cars as we called them in the 60s, loved everything railroad, still do, would love to get one of these. They even had the little side pull offs so they could get out of the way of trains on the main.

    I have to admit, that looks like a fun afternoon.
    Only a fellow train geek would understand why. Wouldn't work out where I live (SoCal), its all active mainline, virtually no secondary lines to do these kind of runs, they've all been torn up or are so short as not to be worth it.

    I want to do this. I notice some of the cars only have one person in them. Do you offer a ride along? If so, PLEASE contact me. I would go rain or shine, even in the cold weather.

    • @michaeldougfir9807
      @michaeldougfir9807 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +100mpgus // In a different video, one of these was a small automobile, like a Mini Cooper, etc. (Remember in Back to the Future #3, they put flanged wheels on the DeLorean, so it can be done.) However, the car has to be something that can run backwards for a lap, now and then, as we just saw.
      OR, if you can get the wheels, you can just build something. There seems to be no requirement for authenticity.

    I did a lot of research about this. Quite a following, lots of speeders (some very nice) for sale. This would be a true HOOT if you have an unused siding close by to enjoy by yourself. Most of these speeders come with a trailer and you drive to the location of the projected ride for that occasion. Can be quite an expensive hobby if that location is far away. 100% focus on safety and following Federal railway rules and speeder owners must quality in order to go on a run. While I enjoy the concept, I'm not the type of individual that would go to one of these events and simply play follow the leader for some hours. There is a Grand Canyon trip that follows the old Williams, AZ track up to the Canyon and back (including an overnight if wanted)...this is the same track used by the Arizona Steam train...which unfortunately now only runs on special occasions while using their retro diesel locomotives for all else.

    • @uprr838
      @uprr838 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      John Moore Group speeder runs coordinated by NARCOA or locally by NEREX. These groups have an excellent reputation for safe, controlled speeder operations.
      They coordinate with the host railroad for permission to run and authority over the railroad.
      Safety, safety, safety. Speeders must comply with NARCOA's safety and equipment rules. Operators must pass a qualifying exam to operate a speeder on sanctioned runs.
