I'd argue that album is over rated and Treehouse is under rated. New Demons in the scope of metalcore hasn't aged very well and people still say it's legendary. The fans hated Treehouse when it came out and that was super underserved

As a fan of I See Stars, it's not underwhelming at all, but it's not anything super special. New Demons was their craziest work, but they changed a lot with their Treehouse album, and actually these two new songs are like Treehouse but better quality. I don't think that the band completely chose to have a hiatus, they had issues with their record label, and actually had recorded albums back in 2019 and 2021, I assume they were the same album but changed. But I think that in 2022 they were recording something different and that is what we're getting. Veil of Maya had the same problem with their record label (they're both Sumerian records bands), and they had to re-record their music at least once. I assume that Veil of Maya recorded three albums, the same as I See Stars and the final albums are the ones seeing the light of day. Unfortunately I See Stars decided to reduce the amount of members after having to deal with issues from past members and honestly I would have done the same thing. There's a chance that this future album could have screams, their previous one did but if it's following suit from their previous album, I wouldn't expect much of it. I feel like a lot of people are disappointed because there has been bands making the same kind of music in the past few years that I See Stars wasn't around, but these two new songs are very much in line with their style and I'm pretty happy with the new songs. They'd grow on you if you gave them a couple listens for sure. I think that if people feel like I See Stars is kind of lagging in style, it's because they were prevented from releasing stuff in the past that is now finally able to be released, and that they will catch up eventually. With that said, I really like them without screaming, I feel like the screaming vocals was very tacky for I See Stars in comparison to Devin's vocals, and I am more than certain that when they're only doing 0s, 1s, 8s and 7s on the guitar, they only need the one guitarist so their lineup change over the years actually makes perfect sense.

I listened right when they dropped. Wasn’t sure about them but all day yesterday I had them on repeat and they grew on me HARD. I’m so excited what the rest of the album has for us.
Like others I’m seeing, I loved Treehouse and I wasn’t into metalcore at the time but they got me hooked with the vocal melodies. I enjoy these new tracks! I think I like Anomaly more after first listen but I’m happy they’re back!! Can’t wait to see what else they’ve got coming.
The problem with Anomaly is you have heard the entire song after the first chorus. The vocals really carry the track everything else is pretty generic. Drift felt a bit experimental and unfinished. There are supposed to be a lot of songs on this album so hopefully these are the low point.
I think these songs are ok, but they feel like warm up songs for something potentially bigger. It’s not even that they’re “poppy” since I now I See Stars can make great songs like that, it’s more so that the styles that they’re going for need more room to grow. Like maybe this is just me, but for a song like Anomaly I think it would’ve been stronger if it had a Melodic or Ambient Lead like something from Of Machines to make the Chorus stick out more. For Drift, I think if Devin did some full screams by the end, it would’ve help the song feel more complete. Hopefully the other songs feel more complete.
I'd recommend songs like Light in the cave, Mobbin' out and Yellow King after what u said you'd hoped for at the end. I See Stars is one of the first bands that got me into heavier music when I checked out New Demons and Treehouse back in 2016 and these 2 new tracks have grown on me over the last couple of days. Very excited for the album whenever we get it!

Drift kinda gives me heavier nothing but thieves vibes in a way, not on the same level as nothinf but thieves mind you because theyre insanely good. But idk, i hear it.

I've loved this ban since and they had a few hiccups along the way they always surprise you with a hidden gem. They don't have their metal vocalist anymore so I don't know how the music will be in the future but I know they will have great music. Getting back into the band was a great idea and they need to get used to the rhythm again so don't feel underwhelmed if you don't enjoy the new songs.
I love New Demons album, especially for the synth work and almost dubstep breakdowns, it's definitely in my top-3 albums of all time list. I think they were best in combining heavy electronics with metalcore, and i like I See Stars for that way more than other bands like Attack Attack! or Enter Shikari, also known for this style. Treehouse was very good, but it had no screams and synths was pushed back, and everything before New Demons was lacking production for my taste. ND for me was peak of ISS, it was just perfect, creativity, sounds, vocals, it had it all. I really feel like this album was a rare treasure to me, something that a band is lucky to make even once. These two tracks are good endeed, but it follows that trend of better production quality and less variety and craziness. Anyways, I'm very happy to see them back and I'm excited for new music
Drift is more of the style I'm liking. Vocally the song reminds me of their song Can We Start Again ft. Mattie Montgomery and Frankie Palmeri and I'm all for it!
I was honestly kind of worried that they were gonna pull off a memphis may fire in Anomaly with the bridge but they didn't, which i was happy about, The second song is definitely the highlight for me, the little breakcore 'breaks' in the middle and the borderline ambient section near the end pushed this track further for me in terms of the two songs. For me, both songs are pretty meh and they both kinda fall under the umbrella of pop-core with bands like bad omens, dayseeker etc. So yeah not bad by any means but i wouldn't really go back to them, my tastes i guess haha.
Not crazy about the almost rage against the machine like vocal style... But I really love how catchy Anomoly is. Overall not bad, but not amazing. Anomoly is a song I can throw on in the car and sing along with while driving tho, so it's fun.
I think both songs are good, drift might be a grower kind of song. As much as I love new demons and digital renegade TEOTWP holds a special place in my heart
I think that "I See Stars" are a mature band now. Not forcing the screaming type of vocals. Just explode all of the Devin's voice at most. Probably "New Demons" are the best album of this band with screams on it and "Treehouse" is a combination of the old and the new stuff... But I prefeir the new a lot. Good react bro! :)

Idk man. This just feels like dollar store bad omens. Dudes vocals don't hold a candle to someone like Noah in this style. They are so much more forced with no smoothness. There's no identity here in my opinion. It just makes me scoff when people say the same shit all the time that people just want breakdowns. I listen to more pop than most people who say that lol. After listening to these songs there was a conversation in a community I’m part of, where people said that after taking so much time away, I See Stars had raised expectations and had to put out completely genre defining and game changing bangers to win people back. And frankly, I think that is asking WAY too much. These guys completely moved away from this band and it’s music for several years, and you just immediately expect them to come back and write a classic? That’s setting unfair expectations. They’re just getting comfortable writing metal music again after 7 years, and these songs are still pretty solid. I think the real test is what comes next.

I used to see I See Stars at Skateland back when they were in high school and I was in middle school. They were my favorite local band. I just can't get into this. The whole electronicore thing just makes me cringe. Their demos of 3D, the common hours, where the sidewalk ends etc still slap. Green Light Go is good too. Their new stuff is way too electronic and processed for me.
I really wish anomaly didn't have a breakdown. It was a copy and paste filler that wasn't needed. Also felt like both singled were fun solid jams. But it feels a bit weak as a Comeback release. Devins vocals are definitely the highlight of these tracks
The little Rage Against The Machine-esque bits in both songs just don’t work. They used to be my favorite band but I’m severely disappointed in this new direction they’re heading in with these two songs.

I don’t know if the eight year hiatus was just really bad for their creativity, but it feels like they lost that spark that set them apart from all the other bands in the industry. Instead, this sounds more like an experimental album, but they’re experimenting with other bands’ sounds in order to find something new for themselves.

After a handful of listens, I far prefer Anomaly. I actually started to dislike Drift the more I listened to it. It just feels like an unfinished demo to me. The instruments kinda feel stripped back quite a bit and the focus seems to be a lot more on Devin's vocals than anything else. I like it, but I don't love it.
I enjoy both songs but prefer Anomaly, so far at least. But that's probably because I'm a basic bitch and enjoy the chorus a lot haha, it's a little reminiscent of Treehouse. Drift is really interesting though, I like the experimentation and the bridge was really cool.
The album murder mitten was off is their best work by a country mile then the keyboardist screamer left and they declined. Thats why there is that discrepancy

I used to see I See Stars at Skateland back when they were in high school and I was in middle school. They were my favorite local band. I just can't get into this. The whole electronicore thing just makes me cringe. Their demos of 3D, the common hours, where the sidewalk ends etc still slap. Green Light Go is good too. Their new stuff is way too electronic and processed for me.
I really wish anomaly didn't have a breakdown. It was a copy and paste filler that wasn't needed.
Also felt like both singled were fun solid jams. But it feels a bit weak as a Comeback release. Devins vocals are definitely the highlight of these tracks
The little Rage Against The Machine-esque bits in both songs just don’t work. They used to be my favorite band but I’m severely disappointed in this new direction they’re heading in with these two songs.
@@cinamonrollcutie2210 their last two albums. Whenever they released new music it was always amazing. I don’t know if the eight year hiatus was just really bad for their creativity, but it feels like they lost that spark that set them apart from all the other bands in the industry. Instead, this sounds more like an experimental album, but they’re experimenting with other bands’ sounds in order to find something new for themselves.

After a handful of listens, I far prefer Anomaly. I actually started to dislike Drift the more I listened to it. It just feels like an unfinished demo to me. The instruments kinda feel stripped back quite a bit and the focus seems to be a lot more on Devin's vocals than anything else. I like it, but I don't love it.
I belive the comparison you are looking for is Sleeping with Sirens/Kellin Quinn, that is what I got from it at least

This has to be one of the biggest disappointments in a long time. This band took 7 years off to come up with some buttrock and man.... what a shame.

I enjoy both songs but prefer Anomaly, so far at least. But that's probably because I'm a basic bitch and enjoy the chorus a lot haha, it's a little reminiscent of Treehouse. Drift is really interesting though, I like the experimentation and the bridge was really cool.
The album murder mitten was off is their best work by a country mile then the keyboardist screamer left and they declined.
Thats why there is that discrepancy
