  • Nebraska offers many things and one of them is the landscape of the great plains and the stories of pioneers heading west - creating boom towns, pioneer villages, and ghost towns in the wake of railroad expansion and other natural disasters.
With over 900 Ghost Towns scattered across the great state of Nebraska - much more work needs to be done here - but here are 5 Nebraska Ghost Towns for the time being.
All pictures used in the video were found in the public domain -

As a Nebraska resident, I’d also mention DeWitty in Cherry County, Nebraska. It was a Black settlement that came about because of the Kincaid Act. It existed until the 1930s when the people left to look for industrial jobs in cities like Omaha, Kansas City and Chicago.

When I was going through the list of Ghost Towns in Nebraska (numerous btw) DeWitty was on the short list. I absolutely need to come back and do a video on that. Nebraska history is fascinating! I sincerely appreciate you stopping by and commenting. And...a very worthy ghost town mention for sure!

I meant to add DeWitty back in February on my Podcast. They deserve a full video and/or podcast episode. Had to drop a comment to you because your past comment reminded me. Thank you for this...

Would be more interesting if there were more current photos of the sites. The history is interesting.

I am so glad you brought this up! My plan is to visit each site and give it an individual video. We'll get there...I appreciate the view and suggestion.

Those must be your top 5. There are many others. FYI it’s pronounced POT ASH, not poat ash. It’s an important ingredient in fertilizer.

😊 Pot-ash...got it. Thank you! I'll be out there later this year - hoping to get a glimpse of something, but it sounds like just a historical marker. - BTW - Just a few top 5 from across several platforms. But...you are 100% correct! So many Ghost Towns in Nebraska. I talk about the "top 5" thing in my podcast. How do you rank a Ghost Town? It's really more to just get a working list and tell the story. I'm thankful for you correcting my pronunciation - and dropping a comment.
