    4600 lbs of handsome styling, comfortable ride, and old school V8 torque. This car is such an honest survivor and I love it. Rarely do you see this specific coupe body style anymore, and I think it may be the best looking of those available for the full size '71-'76 GM cars. You've done a magnificent job of bringing this one back to orginal condition. This has to be the closest we'll ever get to seeing a showroom fresh '75 Delta 88 in HD video.

    What a beauty !! Back in autumn of 1974 , straight out of high school, I scored a service dept. job at our local GM/ Chevy/ Oldsmobile dealer. These 1975 models were just hitting the showroom floors. I got to drive many of these Oldsmobiles as a result. From the one finger power steering , toe-touch power brakes, the solid ride, solid TANK build and the GLUG GLUG GLUG sound of the exhaust , this was a fantastic crusing machine. I fell in love with with Oldsmobile there and then at 16 yrs old. Every car I owned until 1990 was an OLDS. I was never dissapointed ! LOVE THIS MACHINE !!

    The lack of vinyl roof really sets it off.

    • @andrewcolsen
      @andrewcolsen 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Toronado was Oldsmobile’s personal luxury car (coupe only). This was a mid level model (the Eighty Eight) was between the Cutless Supreme and the Ninety Eight. This model came in coupe, sedan and station wagon (Custom Cruiser) applications.

    This is my favorite car on the channel thus far. To see a 4,000 original big block non A/C car with super rare options in coupe form is just absolutely stunning. I really love that Adam disclosed the provanance of the car along with those details shared by the original lady who custom ordered the car from new. The story really makes it for me honestly. It had the 400 bbl 175 horse and I could burn rubber in it. :-)

    Love your videos, I lived the seventies and am sixty two now. My father was a successful salesman and got a new car every other year. He wanted power but also a soft ride. We had six kids so it had to be a wagon. I remember shopping for a '73 Buick Estate Wagon and telling him to get this over the Pontiac because it had a 455 vs. a 400 in the Catalina wagon. That he did. We saw a Centurion Convertible with a 455 in the showroom and it stood out among all the other cars. The old boy so wanted that car but knew he needed a wagon! The Centurion convertible to me is still the epitome of big powerful luxury...Thank-you!

    Hi, most of the cars you have on I have either worked on or owned back in the 70’s and 80’s. A lot of the engines were good once you figured out that it wasn’t a Stock Car. My first car was a 75 Elite with the 351/400 modified. I ripped the whole front suspension and rear out and replaced everything. I went to Sears and bought 5 new tires. Michelin was making the private label for Sears tires at the time. I balanced the rims first and when they were out of round, I replaced all of them. Rebuild the carb and used the Prestone Tee to rinse the whole cooling system out. Had the defroster on to get the heater core. It ran like a Champ for a long time before she finally met her demise. So I know exactly what you are going through. I really appreciate your knowledge and your willingness to really come across on these videos. Thank You 🙏

    With regard to the springs, 71-76 full size Chevy and Olds sat taller than Pontiac and Buick which tended to sag in the rear. We had a 72 LeSabre that eventually booster shocks were installed, greatly improving and leveling the stance and ride.

    • @Skunked68
      @Skunked68 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh yes, old memories agree, Buick’s did look saggier in back. I had used 76 Olds Delta 88 Royale 4 door hardtop. Massive 455 V8. Yet I think it could sneak up to 15 mpg’s which was better than other brand’s "biggies" at 12/13 mpgs. Pretty cinnamon red with white top. Was fun to roll all hardtop windows down and wide view. Sometimes have a friend drive and sit in back, seemed like a limo and the hood stretched on forever. Was handed down to 4 family members, made it to 300k miles. Never leaked, never used oil, always started. People just got tired of driving it and parked. The worst worn out roads were barely felt, it was the best used car I ever had. Rust was its only prob in the end. Awesome sled and land yacht !! I greatly preferred the 1976 first year rectangular headlights. The whole front design is rectangles and squares, seems a better fit, more balanced/even. It was the very last year of behemoths and I think last dedicated Olds motor in Olds, Pontiac motor in Pontiac, etc. Was it the last year of bullet proof turbo-hydramatic 400?? I also remember the huge 76 Caddy Sedan De’Villes with slab sides and new rectangular lamps. Nice sleds. I recall outraged customers learning their 77 slimmed down Olds did not have an Olds engine, Pontiac, the same, etc. "I didn’t buy a higher end GM model to have a Chevy motor !!" they moaned in 77/78. Another lovely one that stands test of time in design looks, the 73 Pontiac Grand Am. It advertised a plastic front nose that could take a dent and pop right back out, no damage. Sporty sexy good looks. I shall never understand how GM could be selling Pontiacs by the millions and not make enough profit to keep building them !!! Dumb move GM.

    It is so gratifying and entertaining to see a car of this caliber returned to its original luster. It does seem that everyman vehicles like this one are overlooked if not completely eclipsed in favor of the 442s and other muscle cars with admittedly more sizzle. While I love the performance vehicles, too, I can't pay $50,000 to $100,000 for one. Your videos have inspired me to seek out something at the lower end of the food chain that, for me, will be equally enjoyable but at a much lower price point. Beautiful Olds! Thanks for sharing the great story on its finding, purchase and restoration. Hope you have a blast driving it.

    Fantastic car. Well done for bringing it "back to life".
    I must admit I am a sucker for horizontal speedos.
    In 35 years of motoring I have only owned one horizontal speedo car myself (out of 11 cars), but I guess it is just nostalgia for the my childhood when my father's cars had horizontal speedos.
    "Those were the days, my friend".

    One of my favorites. I saw a 73 Delta 88 4 door for sale years ago when I just got my license and they wanted $1800 but couldn’t afford it. Then it was gone until I noticed it behind a falling fence

    Enjoy your evening cruises in this grand old girl……👍

    Just a wonderful classic Oldsmobile. Glad to see that you took care of the issue that it had. Pure enjoyment, thanks for the overview and ride. I just love the vintage cars of this time period.

    That "Flow Threw" ventilation, meaning always on is why we would bypass the heater core to make for a cooler ventilation during the non-winter season.

    This is a beautiful car, thank you for preserving these great cars! I drove similar cars as a young man, this really brings me back. Americans really love their large vehicles, I really believe that the modern day SUV's are just up to date replacements for the large sedans back in the day. I would love to see your collection if you ever do an exhibition or show.

    My dad bought my mom a new '75 Buick Estate Wagon, also with the 455. By the time I turned 16 in 1985, cars were still anemic. Well, we still had the Buick as an extra car to pull a boat and horse trailer. My car was an '83 Ford EXP with barely 70 HP. Guess what my preferred vehicle was? The Buick! In high school, we called it the IROC Wagon lol. It just SOUNDED fast with that 4bbl carb lid turned upside down for that "extra airflow." The handling was downright dangerous as were the brakes on a 5,000 lb +/- vehicle. But....it had disco character.

    In the late 80's my dad bought a '73 Delta 88 Sedan for a few hundred dollars. My parents had 3 teenage sons at the time and this was the perfect beater for all of us to use. My dad sold it for a little more than what he paid for it after about 5 years.
