I remember fondly seeing REM at the Spectrum in Philadelphia on the Green tour in like, 88 or something? To call me an REM fan in the 80's would be the definition of an understatement. People today couldn't know what this band meant to some of us back then - sorely missed
There's another live version where Mike mentions that R.E.M. never played Texarkana live when they were still together. (Not sure if that's literally never or just very rarely.) One of the band's best songs, but it's one Michael had very little to do with, which is probably why they didn't play it much.
@@jamesburton8070 I guess that's why I never heard it in concert. Too bad about egos and so on. Mike Mills is a great musician and writes good songs. Two of them that I'm aware of come to a dead stop after the bridge, like a three quarter-note rest. Wonder why he likes doing that, but it does work. Link to that other live version, by any chance? I can't hear it enough.
Sounds great! I've always been into harder music but I have to say rem songs bring me back to a much different time and place in my life. Thanks for the video
I promise that is not me yelping out loud. Internally is another thing! Great show for a great cause. Was so happy to see BB there and that he REMembered me after so many years!
Playing a Danelectro Longhorn, and with a plexiglass body no less. Very cool, and certainly explains the iconic bass tone for Texarcana. Wonder if this was the same bass he used to record it on Out of Time? Such a fantastic tune. Mike was definitely REM’s special ingredient.
Mike's a super nice guy - I hung out w him a few times - he came to see my band play in Athens w a couple of guys who also toured w REM - dude from the Posies and the guy who was in the movie Hype! who worked at Subpop - in '99 at some horrible burger restaurant - worst sounding room ever - when nobody else came cuz they were filming 'The Man Show' at the Georgia Theater a block away - they were giving away free beer and we were giving away lame songs (that I had no hand in writing cuz I was the drummer) - if I'd lived in Athens I'd also have gone with the free beer and girls bouncing on trampolines. Unsurprisingly, these days I'm not a famous rockstar - partied like one for too long though! With Mike a couple of times! Great guy - great band. Miss 'em
that's right - those were the guys - Scott and Ken. We played pool the rest of the time when weren't onstage. I was a hired drummer for a band called Lotustar. We were all right, I guess. Literally a dozen people were there - 3 of em from REM. Saw Peter Buck that evening too. Mike was going out with a girl I used to be friendly with from Rollins College where we went so we'd hang out when she was in town. Mike even took me to a Braves game one time - he's a sweetheart of a guy
I've always wondered if the melody of this song was inspired by The Moody Blues song "The Voice." Very similar. I love this song and it is one of my favorite REM songs.
It looks like Buck and Mills want to get back on the road maybe one last tour for old times sake? The songs have held up! Cmon Stipey but please shave off that white beard! He looks like Letterman! An old man with a white beard.
@@izvodar Stipe "retired". Touring is a lot of work, and it takes it's toll on you. If you're not 'into it' anymore, it's best to just not go on the road. How many acts have you seen that are obviously just there for the mortgage payment? Michael's got enough class to refuse to disrespect his fans with "phoned in" performances. I have to respect him for that.
Mike Mills was ALWAYS the coolest member of REM.
This made me chuckle,
This IS Mike Mills' song, plain and simple
I could listen to it all day 🎶🎤🎸🔥💙💙
An underappreciated masterpiece.
Glad to see Mike and Peter on same stage
Yeah, wow! glad to see, at least, 50% of R.E.M. still playing. Rock on lads!

One of my favorite REM songs. I thought I'd never see it live, so thanks for posting this!
In warsaw in 2002 they refused to preform it saying its too complicated.
he still sounds great, texarkana is one of my favourite REM songs, a bit underrated i think, thanks for this! =D
The brains behind REM. Plain and simple. Mike Mills.
Mike mills in excellent voice
One of my favorite REM songs. Beautiful chord progression. Really fun to see it live. Thanks !!!
Great to see my two favourite REM members still playing together.......lovely song from a brilliant album.
Only live version of this incredible song that I've ever found. Went to a few REM concerts; they never played it -- my loss.
That's sad as it is REM's best song.
@@whom382 Hard for me to say "best" but for me it is top 5 or so.

@@rftulieit’s apt for the lyric “catch me if I fall”
Mike Mills is a good frontman.
That's an awesome clear Longhorn bass played by the master himself... One of my favorite bassists
I learnt so much from him on bass. It's interesting to discover that Peter Buck has the very same period ES-335/12 as i have.
Amazing song.....Thank you to whomever captured this. Pure magic!
Thanks. It was a great night
How is his voice still this good? This song was recorded in 1991 and this sounds like the original track
Scott Shanahan I always thought he was the better pure singer. Stipe of course was the voice of he band, but Mills was a better singer..!
I agree. I heard "The one I love" today. I thought about how as much as I like that song Texarkana is my favorite because of Mill's vocals.
think he's singing a bit Iower probabIy why - he does sound good though
@@dominicaaaaa5547 the key is the same as the record....
@@dominicaaaaa5547 No. This is the original key. His voice just sounds a little huskier with normal aging.
Such a great, classic song.

Sweet... About two years ago I got to see Mike play with a small Orchestra it was awesome
Abso brilliant voice and Peter great as usual.
It's all in the melody. Easy really but only the very best can do it. Mike is one of them, so underrated
Another gorgeous song.
I was at this show! It was a magical night with so many great musicians!
I love his Voice, I
That was really something. Thanks for upload. Terrific musicianship, great voice.
By far my favorite post IRS song.
My Favorite R.E.M. song!
Sounds fantastic!

I love all involved and you are all awesome! It would be an honor to play with anyone here.
What a voice. Love it. 💘
great voice and one of my favorite songs from REM
Pete sounds great with the 12 string Gibson. The whole band sounds great.
I love Peter Buck! He always looks like the most bored rockstar on the planet! LOL.
Nope....that would be John Entwistle
@@davidbeverly6411 OMG, he's up there too! No emotions, but fingers flying all over the fret board!
Called concentration. Try it
Are you kidding? Catch REMs live videos sometime, he is high kicking and jumping around all over the place.
Mike Mills can sing
One of my all-time favourite songs! Good to see Peter playing as well, despite the dodgy haircut.
You’re so right. Watching it, I kept getting distracted by Peter’s awful hair!
this is my fav song off that album.
What I wouldn't give to see some iteration of R.E.M.
Beautiful
Happy Birthday to Mike Mills! ✌🎶🎸🎤🌟👏
I just love this.

Happy Anniversary to Out Of Time, this is my favorite off the album ✌️🎶💙
What a legend!
Love there songs. miss them
What a bittersweet song
Sounds even better live than on the album. Go Mike!!!
Fucking love this performance song and band ❤❤❤ kick ass live. 👏 ❤❤❤
One of the saddist songs ever. R.e.m. was so great
Just call Michael to join you guys on stage ..thats enough to make me happy
I like how the guitarrist enjoy playing

That's Janet Weiss on drums, yes?
Yes it is
Haircuts all around..I'll be in on Monday.
Mike is the best :-)
Is that Kurt Bloch from Fastbacks?
yEAH
Is that Corin Tucker from Sleater-Kinney on backing vocals and tambourine?
Is that the Drummer from Sleater-Kinney(sp?)/Wildflag?
Yes
Excellent 🏆
Love it
Janet keeping the beat!
Yep, and Corin Tucker on backup vocals.
Great REM song

Sounds so much real than the studio version.and honest.
great song, de lo mejor de rem.
Thanks for posting! Did you get any footage of Count Kellam's performance?
One of the guitarists is Peter Buck ?
Yep. Right side of Mike. The one far left is Kurt Bloch of Young Fresh Fellows and tons of other bands
Is it Janet Weiss behind the drum kit ?
Yep !
Simply I like ir
One Of My favourite Songs From Out Of Time. The Demo Is Great As Well.
No one can guitar notes chime like Buck.
BRASIL THe Best 😍😍😍😍😍😍
Michael-less but still brilliant.
wow guitar with 12 strings
Peter, it's time to get a haircut
Verse reminds me a bit of 'the saints are coming'.
they all need a good hairdresser 😂😂😂
Not so funny
GREAT !!!! R.E.M. with differnt frontman ...............................
He did the vocals on this track originally. probably their best song in my opinion
One of the best at least. This era produced a bunch of great tunes.
Is that Janet Weiss on drums?
Yes it is
OK rendition, but the pedal steel and strings are notably absent.
Please hook mecup with the girl just singing no tambourine.i can make her happy i believe.i f she is anyones old lady in the band than fuck all

Peter tours all the time with different bands. And Michael's beard is long long gone
Mike Mills is in fine voice, but I think Stipe's harmonies are sorely missed here. Not a bad job though.
Mike Mills has a better voice than Michael Stipe. Too bad he didn't sing lead more often.
mmmhh this time Mike is a little out of tune...It happens don't worry Mike you're great anyway!
hes better than mike
Buck looks depressed
Sorry . I love him. But can't sing
Where’s Mike Stipe?Not good without him.😕
Igor Zvodar Mike Mills did the vocals on the original.
