If you have more coal than iron in your steel location, you can leave the old coal power plant alone. (Steel needs equal amounts of iron ore and coal.) Look for the Solid Steel Ingot alternate, btw, if you don’t already have it. It requires you to smelt iron before feeding it to the foundries, but you get more steel out
Thank you so much 🌹 I will look once I am back in the game, I can't remember if I got that recipe? I did do, I believe, 2 more hard disks which are waiting in the MAM so we can have a look tomorrow as I want to unlock some things in there 😊 Much love from grandma Wendy 💖
Thank you so much, that is so sweet of you 🌹 This was a big step in total, I am happy with the progress I made! There is absolutely room for improvement but I am making new items 😊 I think I am ok on power now for a little while? Much love from grandma Wendy 💖
@@GramGrendy there is much more powerful power generation available later (based on oil and nuclear), but i once finished the game while having only 3x8 coal generators and none of those other options, and thus it is perfectly "good enough" depending on how big and energy hungry you build your factory in the future. Anyway, the most important step is done, having no need for manual work (manually collecting resources for biomass) on power anymore.
It looked so good to see them all together there. It's a shame that rock is in the way, otherwise I could have made 3 lines next to each other 😊 Seeing what you wrote I should be ok for power for at least a while now! Much love from grandma Wendy 💖
@@decomposedcorpse5186 it was a game in U8 up to the golden cup. For all the later "powereaters" i had quite a few power storages with a total of 1 TWh (yes, no typing error) that were filled over time. i think i had 3 or 4 geothermals too to help filling the storages, but no oil/fuel/nuclear.
You can “cheat” the limit on lifts by using the floor holes. If you have a top floor hole and a near the bottom floor hole, you can connect a lift between the regardless of height. Just start building at one hole, click once, then point at the other hole to finish.
I discovered that by accident with my Limestone - I pulled the lift up and saw I couldn't reach so I ran around and saw I could pull it higher then before! Would have looked nice with the coal but.. I now have a ramp to go up and down on 😄 Much love from grandma Wendy 💖
you can start the lift at any elevation with or without a floor hole and pull it up or down to any floor hole at any elevation. I usually prefer using a series of normal height lifts (attached to each other) since they form some kind of "natural stairs" that can be used to land on (refilling fuel if you have only weak fuel for a jetpack, eg solid biofuel), and it enables you to place powerpoles on them for later use with a hoverpack. If you already have the hoverpack, you can build a huge pillar or tall beam with attached wall power connectors, and have only such a single-part tall lift next to it.
So you connect lifts to each other and place them so they form stairs? No I don't just yet, I am going to work on all these things as from this video on 😊 I am very curious about this hoverpack/jetpack! Much love from grandma Wendy 💖
@@GramGrendy i did an exploration tour and happened to climb the highest rock (with uranium on the top). since i didn't want to climb up again and/or fight radiation again, i put a MK2 miner on that node and got a belt to the edge. then (starting from the top) i did one normal lift, put a powerpole on the lower end, and standing on that lower end did the next normal lift, etc. repeat until i was on the ground, and now there is a powerpole and a belt at the bottom of that tall rock, with a big warning sign that that powerpole will start the uranium miner when connected. I probably will go up at most one more time to replace the miner with a MK3 miner much later, but will have no "climbing problem" because of the lifts (recharging the jetpack) or the powerpole (for the hoverpack).
What a fun factory expanding episode! always such a good pay off to see the whole episode of prep and then how it all comes together to enlarge the production line at the end! I still can't wait for the cyberwagon and goat music XD Also, the more and more I play Subnautica, the more and more advice and tips I'm learning that I can give you before and during your eventual playthrough. FYI I think you should play through both Subnautica games before you play Sub 2 when it's out. Much love, Quack 💜
Owh Quack, the list I have next to me with the things I always want to do... Eventually I will get it all done, eventually 😂 Much love from grandma Wendy 💖
I have a normal Limestone node doing nothing back at home, maybe I should transport that so not have to steel from steel factory node. Maybe make a small factory in between home and the steel factory. Would that work you think? Much love from grandma Wendy 💖
I like your power planet. very neat. There is a large amount of iron in your starting biome I don't think you have yet found (to the north-east) - very useful for boosting steel production, also there are copper and stone in the same area.
Soon I want to explore again! Someone said that going North is a good idea so if I combine that with trying to find more spheres and somersloops and.. we can also try to see which nodes are out there 😄 Thank you so much for your help 🌹 Much love from grandma Wendy 💖
"I made steel! I did a thing!" This in a nutshell is why us addicts play this game, and why I write code for a living. That little hit of accomplishment and satisfaction that comes from building something. I'm never going to catch up with the latest video at this rate though!
You code? That is an amazing skill so thank you for doing so as your work makes a lot of people very happy 😄 Every little accomplishment makes me very happy, it's so nice to see what you try to make works! Much love from grandma Wendy 💖
Oh yes, I have been told before.. I didn't think of it 😏 I do like that you can fill in in any field and it correct to everywhere else! Much love from grandma Wendy 💖
it is even possible to enter formulas in any "number enabled text entry field", eg "100/3" instead of 33.33333, to not need manual calculations and copy&paste of the results or entering/retyping long numbers, but instead directly have values that are as exact as possible to the internal accuracy of the game.
Calculate in the machines?! Ok, another thing I didn't know.. Once I am in the game I will try to see how this works as it sounds amazing! Much love from grandma Wendy 💖
12:10 - You should be fine leaving it, when working with Steel, your constraint is either Iron or Limestone (Concrete) usually. 22:00 - The reason I say you would prefer to use Concrete is because of the alternate recipes you have (The MOLDED beam/pipe) require concrete and are more efficient per unit coal/iron 29:00 - FYI You are able to attach a lift, to a lift. This allows you to stair-step lifts all the way to whatever height you require 35:00 - So what I would do is create steel beams at your steel factory, then transport some of the steel beams (that aren't going to storage) to wherever you're making your Versatile Frameworks (The project assembly part) 55:30 - The numbers are a floating point value, next time you need something like that type it in the XX PER MINUTE section, it'll adjust everything else to match what you want/minute 56:00 - Why not do 40/40/40 instead of 45/45/30? you have 120 coal and 120 iron coming in, it makes more sense in my opinion to do 40/40/40 for those foundrys 59:00 - Double check those belts coming from the nodes, are they mk.2? you wont be able to feed those 3 foundrys without 120/min of coal/iron Great job on the video Gram - Very snazzy steel setup if all the belts are at the right speeds!
- I do have another limestone next to my house which I can bring over. it's only a normal node but it would be more then I have now, maybe that helps - Plus what I am already producing can also be put on transport? - I didn't know that, so much to learn 😄 - You read my mind, that was exactly the plan! - Another thing I didn't know (I might have forgotten it too). there is so much to learn and so much therefor to remember that I indeed could do with reminders.. 😏 - You know, sometimes when I record this I feel a bit stressed as I want to do it right and I know how I can struggle.. I will check and change as I now clearly see how right you are 😊 - I will check the belt too! Thank you so very much for your help, I truly appreciate it 🌹 Much love from grandma Wendy 💖
Grandma, it's about time you just stop using mk 1 belts, as the materials for better mks have become cheaper and expendable. Since you're mass producing steel beams, just start using mk 3 conveyors for everything.
In the back of my head is still the advice to use mk1 most and rarely mk2. So it's just a habit to pull the mk1 😏 I don't have mk3 yet, I am trying to make the materials so I can unlock more steel recipes and I think the mk2 miner and mk3 belts are in there? Much love from grandma Wendy 💖
Material for belts MK1, MK3 and MK5 are (imho!) easier than for MK2 and MK4, but using the best that are availble usually allows to work faster and with bigger factories with more machines. Since you are almost done getting the MK3 now, in this case it may be worth it to go directly from MK1 to MK3. But don't underestimate any small advantages in speed either, eg 120 items from a pure node, or from a MK2 miner on a normal node, on a MK2 belt, and two such belts merged to a single MK3 belt. the only place where you can or maybe even should stay using MK1 belts is the direct connection of a splitter with the input of a machine that needs at most what a MK1 can deliver (only 15, 30, 45, or maybe 60). this helps when filling a newly built or empty manifold.
So if I would use a splitter and one machine needs 30 but the other more then 60 should I then use mk1 for the side that needs 30 and the other side as good as I have it (MK2 or MK3)? Much love from grandma Wendy 💖

Yeah I always try to get that before starting steel. It basically makes it a "2&2 to 1" ratio instead of "3&3 to 1". ("Iron&coal to steel")
