    Ok, little help needed. At around 5:21, as Miles's solo transitions to Kenny Garrett's, Foley starts playing a kind of arpeggio/ riff figure that I'm sure I recognise as taken from possibly an R&B/ funk track of the era, but can't place it. Anyone?

      Now you got me..
      Yes, sounds familiar. 🤔
      Intriguing. But it can take a lot of time before the memory makes it fall into place. 🤯
      Brute force;
      - play the riff on an instrument and see what Shazam makes of it.
      - write to dear mr. McReary and ask the question.

      The part at around 5:18 is from It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night by Prince (Miles would later perform the song with Prince at his New Year's Eve concert 12/31/87). Also, this version of Full Nelson includes a bit from A Love Bizarre by Sheila E./Prince (starts at 1:49:58).

    By far, the best "modern" Miles concert out here on the tube.
    An energy and precision performed by the ensamble next to none.
    Miles being active for this amount of time given his overall physical state at the time, is utterly impressing.

  • @juergenmeyer3806

    Back then, the concert was broadcast by the local radio station (I remember Lutz Ackermann leading through the concert with his voice trembling with awe and excitement) on two nights at Xmas in '87 and I recorded it on two 90min Teldec tapes. Those nights gave me the final kick in my conversion to fusion jazz.
    History moved on, Miles died, cassette tapes can no longer be played, and lots of the late Miles' live cuts appeared on cd, but not this, THE concert. So we're all inevitably spiralling towards (old) age, and when I discovered this concert the other day on this channel, it was like Xmas in midsummer.
    Thanks to the guys at Milestones - your's is a great service to humanity (or human nature, as the case may be). Meanwhile, Miles (and his band) will stream forever!

I moved to NYC 1977 (or so) than lived all over the word and come back to NYC. , For me the NYC is the only place to live. I met Miles in NYC, it was awesome, in Harlem, time ago. And again. Miles was simply blessed by our Creator to blow the trumpet on Earth as Gabriel blows the trumpet in Heaven. That's why we feel it instantly from the very first note until the last note. I remember seeing Miles in Chicago during the spring of 1990 in one of the parks. It was a starry night and of course he was the main star that shine so brightly and gave us everlasting enjoyable memories for years to come.

      @@MilestonesArchive 59:10 what an entrance - not sure if he ever did something as this with the Stones: and yes 34:10 sounds very much like Darryl - I was wrong.
      Bennie somehow starts playing immediately against the sound of the band on Me to You and that lifts everything to another level, similar to when Hiram Bullock was on guitar.
      Darryl does this intermittently around 38:00 where Miles encourages him to push more, but it seems to take him to 40:30 to really expand.
      Still think that Ricky is such a solidly amazing backbone, who makes everyone sound amazing. Best drummer with Miles by far since Al Foster.

    New Blues - who's on guitar solo?

      @MilestonesArchive  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's no guitarist. That's Foley on piccolo bass.

      There's no regular guitar here. What you hear that sounds like guitar is Foley on piccolo bass.

    Wat een egotripper bassist. Dat Miles dat toelaat?

      Miles' genie als bandleider is vooral gebaseerd op ruimte: ruimte voor stilte in zijn solo's maar ook ruimte voor zelfexpressie en dat hij zijn bandleden meer vertrouwd dan ze zichzelf vertrouwen.
      Zijn intuitie in het kiezen van bandleden was ongekend, wellicht vergelijkbaar met Joe Zawinul's.
      59:10 is een entree die Daryl nooit kan maken bij de Stones
      Dus, verklaar jezelf
      - egotripperij;
      hoe haal je het in je hoofd?
