Even as an avid fisherman myself I can’t say I’m a huge fan of this. Obviously you have no control of what takes your bait so it’s not like anyone can fault you for it but I really do hope this fish was released quickly and safely without any lasting harm. I have a bit of a soft spot for white sharks and the idea of one being handled for sport doesn’t sit well with me. I support catch and release fishing when it’s done humanely (obviously I do it myself) but if I can be a softy for a minute…I hope the shark is okay 😢.

So here’s how this works Fukwit, in Florida you have the option for a shark fishing license. After applying you take a course on which sharks are allowed to be brought out of the water and which are protected. Just because you can’t go shark fishing doesn’t make it illegal.
You can come w me next time, I’ll let you send out the bait.

In Florida, a special license is needed to fish for sharks from the shore and you must take a course first to get this license. The proceeds from this licensing go towards protecting the marine habitats which Florida's sharks inhabit. So, believe it or not, they are protecting Florida's sharks and other marine life by doing this.

@@GrabbaBeer not nessarly no. If you can prove it was a mistake then you may get a slap in the wrist. But. In this case what should have been done is once they hooked the animal they should have IMMINENTLY and I mean IMMINENTLY unhooked the animal and realsed it right away. They INTENTIONALLY brought the animal on shore and that move alone, you can face possible jail time and at best get your fishing licenses revoked and the guy running the charter can be then banned for life for running any type of fishing charter operations. Great Whites can die very easily, even if the animal was released there is a huge chance of the animal dying right after. Great Whites are a species that require to be in constant motion or constantly swimming, it is the only way they can breath, they cannot suck in water to breathe unlike alot of shark species, they can easily suffocate even in water if they are not moving or have water flow through their gills. For ever min that animal is not moving it is even closer to death by suffocation. The chances that this animal died in my opion after this encounter is pretty high.

They are extremely rare Florida waters especially off the beach. I 100% know they didn’t expect to catch a white off the beach, unless they previously spotted it or were told one had been seen which they didn’t mention. Fish can survive with their gills out of the water for short periods of time (how tf are sharks supposed to get from ocean to aquarium without being caught and moved onboard the boat without coming out of the water?) and if handled correctly, absolutely no harm is done to the fish. This was catch and release if anyone thought they were trying to kill a shark. I wish I had been the one to catch that, I’m a little jealous.
