As a creator of bots, I can vouch for how hard it is to create a bot this good. I have been trying for a long time, and my best bot is maybe high silver. Props to Rolv and Soren for making nexto, such an unbelievably good bot!
That's actually not the case, two of these bots, can destroy every pro on earth. And at the rate its improving, its gonna reach ssl very soon, and then a few months after that, and it's over for humans.
The issue is an AIs capability to rapidly learn things the skill that took mertzy years to develop probably took that bot a few weeks after it was coded plus it was evenly matched with mertzy I’d say
I think the key to pushing these bots to the next level is to train them in parts. Notice how the bot basically mastered dribbling since that is the easiest skill for machine learning to develop, while aerials are still lacking. Perhaps the devs could code it such that the bot is rewarded more based on the height of the ball above the ground when the finishing touch is made, to encourage it to learn aerials, or modify the map in such a way that the bot is forced to learn aerials, and then retrain it on a regular map Also if you play this bot then make sure to play on 120 fps since that’s what the bot was trained on.
Lmao I'm low d2 in 1s but after practicing a lot I managed to take a couple games, low scoring games though, 1-2 maybe, it's really hard to score on it in ones. It's crazy seeing such high level players struggle when I'm so bad comparatively

It's literally a D2 with a perfect yet plain ground game and instantaneous reaction time. I think if it implemented some movements that high level players use, (especially in the air) it could be even more insane. Imagine if it could perfect wave dashes, it would be horrifyingly quick
Hey Mertzy, this video was amazing, just like others, as a fellow bot creator myself I can really say that it’s pretty hard to make good bots that are actually decent, props to all the contributers of Nexto. My best bot that’s not machine learning is around diamond, and im hoping to get it to champ. Since Nexto’s release RLBot has has alot more recognision, its awsome to see the bot creation further improve and maybe reach ssl or maybe pro level one day. Not to mention but interesting; Capping your frames at 120 is the optimal fps for Nexto.

I don't know if you knew or we're aware of this while recording but I was told on the stream that you need to be at a multiple of 60 fps for the bots inputs to update correctly and that it kind of breaks if you're not.
As a professional software engineer I can remark that programming robots to use machine learning and topping that w multiple instances per second is impressive!
From what I understand it IS a learning AI bot. It’s reactions aren’t programmed in by the devs. It has simulated gameplay for thousands of hours to learn what the best strategies are. That’s why it hasn’t learned complex mechanics, only simple flicks and outplays based on the movement of the opponent.
For everyone in champion 2 or lower, dont think u can win against him, i tried it and it went horrible, his flick game is out of this world. I will have nightmares from this

The bot has improved a lot after they released the current playable version. The developers are currently working on the third iteration of the bot that will have a much bigger brain. There's a chance that it might even eventually reach SSL

What settings are you using in obs or in game to get your recordings look so sweet ! Your videos are always fun and enjoyable but to me your actual recording in game footage is always way higher quality than any other creators. I understand if you don't wanna share your tricks lol but I'm guessing you're rendering the game in 4k ?
the past couple of days i have just been doing me and nexto vs 3 nectos its the most fun youll ever get bc all you have to do is defend and just occasionally tap the ball in when needed. but tbf nexto is gc and necto is like champ 2 theyre both insane with the ball at their hoods its crazy as hell i can also confirm…. it can aerial
i just thought about this but if you verse the bot you could use it for training against a gc. might be handy for like c2 players tryna take it to the next level
I think at the end it thought you were going to demo it which is why it dodged left and whiffed. It literally prioritizes not getting demoed vs scoring in overtime lol
Are they going to introduce it to the public? I'd love to play 1v1s 2v2s 3v3s against higher level bots for practice and gradually work my way up, would be great for training
As a gc1 1s player I managed to barely beat Nexto on the first try after watching the videos of sunless and sledge. Just like you in the video I figured he is bad at defending cieling shots so everytime I got some space I went for it. Since Nexto learned by playing against himself and he basically never goes up the cieling he just is not ready for cieling shots so if you don't hit it early it is a reliable free goal.
As a D1, Nexto is impossible for me to beat lol. Necto on the other hand, if you want a lighter, easier experience, is perfect for anyone under like mid champ. Nexto, and the incredible work the devs have done teaching Nexto, is honestly just the beginning. I know more and more bots will come out and even make Nexto look like cake.
I forget who's video I saw but this bot has around 28 years of experience or something crazy like that when they 1v1'd the bot it might have been wayton, idk how it got so many years of experience but I know it was over 7 at the very minimum

No that is incorrect. The bot only trains in an environment called RLGym, which runs a large amount of sped up games in which the bot is playing against itself. This is the public version of the bot and it is not even the latest version.
Man what the heck, as someone who's played probably hundreds of games against nexto in 1s, 2s, and 3s I've only been able beat the bot a few times, that being said I'm high d1 in 1s and c3 in 3s haha... Ground player mostly. I also play a lot of extended 20 30 minute games and try to maintain a 1 - 2 goal ration usually
The normal RL bots play like this all the time....my buddy and I ONLY play with bots, and we see this kind of BOT play all the time. They do learn from the player.

They already do that. They hope that the next version will be better at aerial play. This version does go for fast aerials in 2v2 and 3v3 already
This bot is literally one of my favorite things to practice against. At Champ 2 in 1's I haven't beaten it yet but it makes for great practice.

Join the RL bot d1scord. That's where they do all the bot stuff.
