Fix Logia Weather Stations Anemometer Not Spinning or Working or Seized

  • A simple fix for your Logia Weather Station Anemometer that has stopped spinning. It's due to a an incorrect batch of the MR104 bearing used by Logia which comes in two versions one with mild steel bearings (which rust) and one with stainless steel bearings. Their supplier must have accidentally sent them a bunch of the bearings using the mild steel bearings which rust and seize. This fix will solve the rusted bearing issue for a very long time and will take all of 10 minutes to do. The bearing can be replaced but that's a lot more complicated and I believe unnecessary.

I have had two of these units seize up on the anemometer. When I di the as the video, I found I could not free up the bearing just using WD40 with the wind cups still on the unit. I had to remove the bearing to get it to free up. The bearing is held in by a single E clip. Once removed, the wind cups can be removed from the bearing and the bearing will drop out for easier work. Take care when removing the E clip. It is very small and easily lost! My unit is now back in service. Thanks for the basic video.

it would be better if the lodge used the other system, without having to dismantle the whole station. should use the system that uses ambient Waters, should only blunt the anemometer with a screw.

Your fix worked perfectly! Someone on here suggested removing the bearing E-clip, which I did, before freeing up and oiling the bearing. It required a bit of patience to get it back on down that little cone but it is possible and much cleaner repair. I'm not as confident as you that the oil-repair will have longevity so I ordered a sealed SS bearing to replace it next time (if needed). THANKS so much for taking the time to tell us of your diagnosis and repair!

What size bearing is it? I am planning to replace that when I open mine to figure out why it sometimes doesn't give a reading despite spinning freely. I do wonder if the sealed bearings would give a slower wind speed reading than the open bearings though, because working with RC hobby grade trucks I discovered that the seals do add a little bit more 'drag' compared to the open counterparts. That may be negligible though...

Thank you , very useful . I have another problem in Quebec because it gets frosted and blocked with ICE XD I need to figure how the anemometer usually work in very cold conditions.
