you speak the same language all Luhya. it is just that some got influenced by other languages. But you can know the correct way to say that if you go the origin. Moreover in many bantu language a word might mean different things depending on the context. I however sure you guys speak the same langue. Mtwe and Mrwe are really not that different looking at the spelling. you have that even in many western languages when you look at dialects.
Nevertheless I encourage you to continue learning about your language and your culture. You will learn more about yourself and who really are. please I you do it, because if you language get lost, your history will be also as well as all what your ancestors have fought for. which will be a shame.
Keep up the good work
@@jackroro7381 I like your analysis. Borrowing can bring about a difference in the wording and pronunciation. Sure, I keep learning everyday. Some that I didn't even know were words in my dialect. Thank you, for your kind words.
@@luhyalanguageandculture No problem really. Keep it up because you are one of the very few who are willing to do what you do.
Many think that speak well english makes one smarter and educated than the one speaking well their mother thung. which was one of the colonizers tactics to break the link between generations. Hence breaking history and any possible prio knowledge that could transmitted from one generation to the other, via oral traditions. Those people don't know that in England even mad people speak well english.
@@jackroro7381 your comment is insightful I should say. Because honestly, this is a battle that we fight everyday. Especially with our children today as times are changing and so is our language. So we do the best we can to leave a mark.
@@luhyalanguageandculture thank you. Yes it is a big fight, especially because of the continious effort put in by the colonizers to kill all local languages and culture in the name of globalization. In that way the can rewrite history and invent stories in a safer way.
Our generation is probably the last generation to save the local languages. I also like the fact that you see the bigger picture with our children. Because sometimes parents or privious generations fail some times to realize small mistakes like that they made which had a bigger impact on the next generation.
what you are doing might seem small to you but you are making not only on your children and Luhya people but also many bantu tribes. Because your work will open the eyes of many and people can be used on many of on going researches about history of Bantu people. a simple example is the possible of occupation of bantu people in early europe. or the link between bantu languages and Latin, because some researchers have suggested that latin is a bantu language, just to name a few to show how big your work is.
I love your work, keep on the good work
Thats why napenda nyimbo za congo ? I love old School Rhumba i tell you
Thank you for your work. When a tribe or the tribes migrated. They didn’t migrate all once, some of them stayed and others changed the direction. That’s why in DRCONGO we have other tribes speaking like Luhya ( Bashi, Bafulero, Banyintu, bavira, )theses 4 tribes speak same as maragore. They are located in Eastern Congo Sud Kivu province. In Zambia the tribe called Abafumbira speak like the maragore too, in Equatorial Guinea there is a tribe speaking like maragore. I’m Congolese from one of the tribe that speak like maragore.
Very informative.
I have a friend who's Luhya. Sadly, he rarely speaks the language since he went to school as a kid. I hope people keep it alive!
Thank you for the info. What has intrigued me is the people from Congo finding similarities with Luhya.
In Liberia, there is a tribe speaking Kisii language. In DRCongo the Batembo tribe speak like Kisii. In DRCongo the Alur tribe speak same as Luo.
This surel echoes more about how these migrations and settlements happened. Quite informative 👍
Alur are Luos. Same people.
Why are Bukusu grouped with Luhya? Bukusu is a continuum of Bagisu/ Bamasaba in Uganda. Bukusu and Bamasaba/Bagisu in Uganda used to hold circumcision ceremonies flag off in Uganda. They are the same people separated by the border.
this so enlightening atleast i know what tribe to speak
I am glad you found this enlightening
Which one would you prefer speaking? I would love to know
Olu...is the language (olumarachi, oluwanga, etc)
Hello Doreen.
The way the Luhya Marachi speak is very similar to Mashi and Kifuliiru languages spoken in Eastern Province of Congo DRC.
So Luhya people's origin is probably Congo DRC..
Caxton Nyahela . Recent studies indicate that Luhya are Bantu Hebrews.Your tribe Marachi are related to Hebrew word Malach, the name of Samia tribe is distantly related to Hebrew word Samaria and Abasaka clans name in Luhyaland are are related to the Hebrew word Isaac. The place name Sabatia is related to Hebrew word Sabbath.Actually, there is alot of Hebrew traits ie even male circumcision among the Luhya.Research is ongoing to find more cultural and biological evidence.
I did a dna test with National Geographic Geno and it said I had Luhya DNA passed down from my mother
That was so good. I bet it must have made you feel great. I hope you can find your Luhya people
Keep it up omkhana wefu

Even in south Africa as Batho/Bantu people we are also told we are baluhya baluwa .
Doreen Luhya (Aboluyia) People of Oluyia-oneness (with No compass Luhya had two directions Ebukwe (East) and Mumbo (West) confirmed by the Sun rise and Sun set. Thanks for this forum Bold girl I like you and you will help others to think. Lets talk Luhya and make it large.
Thank you Alucheri. You have surely confirmed it. It was hard to find the South and North vocabularies because everyone I asked only knew how to refer to the west and East because of the sun. Indeed North and South on the compass are not very native in Luhya land. orio muno for watching, Let us talk Luhya.
Yall are my bantu people...
I'm an African American and apparently I have some Luhya ancestry and I stumbled on your channel
Hi Johnson, welcome to this space. Do you know which specific Luhya subtribe?
@@luhyalanguageandculture The Bukusu according to test
@@GojoHubby95 Wow! That's amazing. Bukusus are our neighbors. Actually, the Luhya subtribes are related in terms of vocabulary and pronunciations.
@Luhya Language and Culture that's very interesting. I'd love to learn more
@@GojoHubby95 In that case, you're very welcomed aboard. You will learn so much here.
Orio muno khu lieko🙏🏿
Umukhana muluhya oriena?
The dna test from living dna shows im 8.5 Kenyan and apart of the luhya tribe ❤
Why do you normally leave out gishus when giving the sub tribes of the luhyas?
I have only made one video like this. Next time, I will surely include them. Though, honestly I don't understand why Gisus are left out. I tend to think of Gisus as a part of Bantus ln Uganda. Please educate me on this.
@@luhyalanguageandculture They're close to bukusus. We're the same people only separated by colonial boundaries. I understand a number of luhya dialects. To my surprise there's nothing like luhyas in Ugandan history yet we have bukusu s, banyole, banyalas, samias and many more. The colonialists wrote different things about the same people. God willing we're beginning to rediscover ourselves. I can share with you more my sister if don't mind.
For your information most luhyas here in Uganda are called gishus including bukusus
@ceasormwambu766 oh behold! Now everything makes sense! I have been wondering why google doesn't bring the results of Luhyas in Uganda, yet I know of Abagisu, Abamasaba, and Abasamia who speak a Bantu language I can understand 98 % of the words. Your explanation has answered my question.
Please bring more so we can all learn. I know people will benefit from your input.
Abanyala, Abanyole and Abasamia are in Uganda too
Hi Lutta, yes they are. And Nyalas are also scattered in Kakamega and Busia counties. Thanks for watching
Y’all always forget about Bamasaba😭😭
@@SizweMakweta, Bamasaba, and Bukusu are the same people. The border separates them. Bamasaba are in Uganda.
Omwami Kennedy Kabole, am not so sure about the suggested Abrahamic origins and the connection to the MULEMBE salutation. This is because the biblical Abraham is placed around 1500BC whereas the greatest mind ever to live, a scientist, doctor, engineer, architect, philosopher, and administrator, was a black man of Misri by the name IMHOTEP (he who comes in peace/prince of peace) and lived circa 3500BC. The Egyptian typical greeting then was HOTEP meaning PEACE BE WITH YOU or simply PEACE
came to your channel because my Ancestry DNA showes Luhya tribe..
You are welcome🙂. We Luhyas love guests.
"Ancestry DNA"? What actual test, because AncestryDNA doesn't show African results by tribes. They don't even have Kenya specifically as a region.
@@akumathelion535 u know toooo much..till you know nothing..kmt

Luhya are my people according to dna testing... I'm from Arkansas in USA..
I'm related to 72 ethnicities in Africa... my
MOTHER belong to Tikar in Cameroon and my FATHER belong to Bateke Bakota Tsogo Gabon and Congo.... I've heard Luhya tribe descend frm hebrews... is this true?.... i uploaded my dna to my true ancestry and my closest genetic modern populations were 1 ..Lemba...2 Ethiopian jews..3 Egyptian..4 Jordanian..5 Yemen...6 Morroco north and south... my father was BANTU. MY MOTHER haplogroup is L1
I hear people say so. That Luhyas have a close descent with the Hebrews. I would love to also understand more about this part of history
I have a friend who's Luhya and he says they follow similar dietary laws. It's very possible there's some connection.
transnzoi kaunti
Yes Kelvin Luhyas are also found in transnzoia county but I didn't include it because transnzoia is a mixture of several tribes. Just like part of siaya, Kisumu and Nairobi has luhyas. I appreciate the input 😊
teach people the luhya history according the history lef to us by our ancestors.
the oral histories left to us luhya people speak of a migration from a place called misri.
congo is never mentioned anywhere in our traditional history,
. hii ya congo ni masomo ya mkoloni
Hi Arunga, thank you for your feedback.
That sounds like mizraim.
@@user-hy4xz1qt9h and yes .That's where our people came from.Mizraim aka Egypt

You need to include that luhya are part of Bantus, who are biological descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. They are from the priestly tribe of Levi - hence the word MULEMBE, meaning peace.
Well noted with thanks.
Yall are my bantu people.. im from Arkansas in the USA
I'm a Congolese-American, from Bafuliiru tribe in Uvira, Eastern Congo. There's an elder who had lived in Kenya and Zimbabwe who once told me that Kifuliiru is very similar tu Luhya and Sekalaka of Zimbabwe. Today, I confirmed it. I listened to the Luhya Hymn and now you. There are many similarities indeed.
I have heritage from the Luhya taken to America.
My DNA put me write here so proud
Before you rush to claim they're 2nd largest, always remember there's no tribe called Luhya. If this issue is dissected properly and everyone is placed where they truly belong you'll be shocked at what you'll get.
What makes you think like that, its surprising that this comment is always brought up by people who aren't luhyans. We are one but different subtribes , personally I understand almost all of the languages spoken by different subtribes.
@@fadhilioyuyo created by the colonial administration in the 1940's. They did not exist before then and have no history as a tribe. This information is public. You only need to check in the right places. If you insist they're one then we can also say that Kikuyu and Meru or Akamba are one tribe just because they understand one or two of each other's words when we all know that's not the case..
@@TheMaestro-mx3zh so many things were created by the colonialists . I don't see anybody having problems with the borders, we are even proud calling ourselves kenyans and yet its a territory created by the colonialists. Back to the topic, its not just the languages that we share but the food we eat, the culture but as I said this can only be understood by luhyans.
Luhyas they migrated from north Africa (Egypt) to Uganda and then Kenya. But not Congo
Egypt then Central Africa (Cameroon) to Uganda through the rainforest
Who else is here after a dna test?
My DNA test shows that I have ancestors that were luhya from kenya
This is interesting to know. You're welcomed to Luhya land anytime. Do you know the specific Sub-tribe or location?
