Tamils or Thamizhar/Thamilar speak Tamil language. She is correct. "Thamizhan" is the masculine word "Thamizhacchi" is the feminine word in Tamil. "Tamilar" is the gender neutral word in Tamil for a person who speaks Tamil. In English, the Tamil language speaker is called Tamils only.

Kannadigas,Kodavas and Tuluvas.... kannadigas are those whose mother tongue is Kannada, Kodavas are those whose mother tongue is kodava,Tuluvas are those whose mother tongue is Tulu.... these all are from Karnataka .....all are not Kannadigas...
Tulus and kodavas present only in 2 and half district. So majority karnataka speak kannada only.

Hii, in South India there are 5 main Dravidian languages or also known as "pancha dravida bhasha".. these are Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, TULU, and kannada. I don't know why everytime Tulu language is not being mentioned in South Indian languages. And infact Tulu is the only independent Dravidian language which has a seperate root.
