My 3 month husky escaped his harness when on a walk last week and ran extremely fast directly back to my house. I was so relieved! I make sure to walk him in a way that he remembers where he lives.

I have been watching your channel for a long time. I have two Siberian Huskies that I have trained from 6-week old puppies. But now I have a new rescue Siberian Husky that never was given proper training, and I am training a 2-yeard old from scratch. Thank you for this tip, it has been very helpful. It is different training a 2-year old rescue than a puppy and your guidance is so helpful!

These are all so true, my dog LOVES going out but he also knows that he can’t just go out until I allow him. I did a similar method and he does it so well. The few cases he does run out because someone leaves it open, that’s when I figured out that chasing them does look like a game of tag. Sometimes you can just walk near them and then run away and you’ll find them chasing you. What I also do is, I created a bond between my husky and his leash, when I have the leash, it means we’re going out and we’re going for a walk, I think it’s important that when they do get out and you catch them, you put the leash on and continue your walk, that way they can understand that you won’t remove what they love, there are just conditions and they’ll be fine with it. This one time my husky got out when my brother left the door open, as soon as he saw me with the leash, he immediately went to me and ran around me until I got his collar, put it on him and we ran around the park together. Make him want to go to you.

There's a program that was on the tele here in the UK called Dogs Behaving Really Badly, (if you can get hold of the series its worth a watch, the guy doing the training is spot on and is there mainly to train the owner more than the doggo. Is on par with Its me or the dog but less distracting for the viewer), the fella did exactly as what was shown in the video to train runaway dogs but had the owner have the dog on a training lead or an extendable as insurance and if the dog does bolt. Then they won't get too far and can reel them back in. He also used his body as a barrier so when the dog approached the threshold of the slightly open door without a command, then the trainer can step in front of the dog with an "ah!" or a stern no and walk the dog back into position away from the door. The end result was when the dog stayed in position with a stay command and have them sat there with the door wide open.

I've had my rescue husky for almost a month now and this was one of the first things we did. First with kitchen boundary and then with the rear patio door.
She sits and waits for the command to go outside but is now getting clever. She will sit between me and the open patio door so that I can't get out. Kind of like "I will respect he boundary but I will make sure you take me too if you are going outside"

Scariest moment ever when this happens and yes you do cry !, from the stress. It I believe they will always come back in most cases. They are very loyal. Great video!

I’m in the process of registering and adopting a Husky that was found and the foster family is taking care of it while I’m in training. Sadly it was chipped and nothing was on it. It’s sad but reality. She’s 2 years old and I’m naming her Azula. She’s due to be registered as mine in the next few weeks and I’m taking precautions including chipping, tags, and a shock collar to recall. I start training with her soon.

My husky escaped one day. I work out regularly so I chased him......for hours. Almost 4 hours, it wasn't all out the whole time but when I got home that night I could barely walk. One of my neighbors found him in their yard the next day. Well, Raiden (my husky) walked right up to the neighbor and that's how he caught him! I had to take Raiden to the vet because he had run the pads off his paws. It was pink on the bottom of his paw because there was almost no skin left. because I tore a muscle in my leg we were both layed up in the house for three days.

After 3+ years with a husky, it all boils down to consistency in training and setting up routines. When I open the front/back door, Navajo goes pee... usually the same tree and same spot every time. I let him wander the front/back yard when I open the door. I let him wander across the street off leash. When he goes too far, I ask him where he's going and comes back. Can anyone else in my family do it? Not really. They haven't been consistent with their routines, but some of my routines with Navajo benefits the rest of the family eventually. For example, if I let him outside off leash in my backyard (no fence), he'll go to his spot to pee, then come back and lay down next to everyone outside. Now I only leash him outside if another dog or person walks by... just in case. Most times people walk their dogs or walk by and Navajo just lays down and watches them walk by, then goes to sniff where they were.

It's not a game if you train them right. I had a female Husky. They are the most beautiful dog to watch when they are free in the snow. They leap about eight feet. Take them out to a road on a leash. When a car comes by back away from from the road like lightning. After the car passes hug your Husky. The dog will understand as long as you show fear. Trust me after you do this about six times, your Husky will not even go near the road. Also, if you can set up a 100 foot dog run and have it spring loaded. That way your Husky can work up speed chasing a squirrel etc. and not choke when it comes to an abrupt stop. Off the run give your Husky a twenty-five foot leash. So, now we have a 100 by 50 ft. running area for your Husky. If you can't spare that much room make it as big as it can be. Leave the grass there and mow it. The dog will see that you are the Alpha and control it's environment. Go back inside your house. That is where the food and water is. Once your dog has done it's business it will give a bark. That's when you let it back in. Never hit a Husky. You can tap it, and I mean tap not slap it on its nose. Most of the time a deep voice is enough to make your Husky understand that it did something wrong. After a while it will figure out what that is, as long as you react the same way every time. You may only have to tap it on the nose once. A deep voice should take care of any subsequent violations. Love your Husky because it loves you. Don't ever beat it. It's a smart dog and it will never trust you again. I could let my Husky run free. When I wanted to go inside. I would call to her. If she wanted to come in she would run to me. In fresh fluffy snow she would stop and give me a look, then she would turn and look at the snow. She wanted to play more. I gave her a wave away and off she went to play. After about fifteen minutes she would get tired and I would call her. She would sit next to me until she wanted to go inside. I could have called her inside. She would have obeyed the Alpha. They always do. You must establish yourself as the alpha or be prepared to be dragged by your sled dog on a leash. Who is the alpha then?

When she heard me cry out and turned to see me on the ground, she came back immediately to see if I was ok. I just reached over and took hold of her collar. Later tried it again by falling to my knees and acting like I was in trouble. Seems to work every time. (Just in case you’re not armed with treats) ☺️

Realised she was off and a said “SEE YA DUDE!” I was slightly intoxicated because it was vacay mode. So i went on a husky chase like an idiot. She really didnt go far which was good. But i wasnt happy. She ran around abit then went to the neighbors who i managed to tell to grab her. Its tough when she is off leash as her hearing is non existent.

When I used to try and catch her it took hours. She would play the nana boo boo game. Be out of reach just so and then you go to reach and took off. She also would play games with the jumping tall dogs ( aka deer). Now there’s no game to play so she isn’t as interested... we can go mt. hikin off leash and will stay by my side. Only place I trust her off lease beside in a fence yard

My female Husky is a big time escape artist. I can not open my window when its nice out because she forces my screen out. She will literally wedge herself between the window and the screen to get the leverage to do it.

Make sure you can exercise your husky every day by running or going to a dog park. Huskies often become destructive if not exercised. They shed constantly so be prepared to clean your floor daily. Read up on the breed before getting one. too many don't and they end up being killed in shelters.

I agree that huskies love to run and are not running away as much as going out for a very long run. My husky got out of my yard when it was -7 F and ran all night and was sleeping on the porch in the morning. I was so worried and thankful she was okay. I always have my huskies micro chipped just in case something happens. Great channel 👍

my husky is a very obedient dog and will come when i say come, stop when i say stop but on occasions this dude has gotten out the yard and went straight to the dog park without me noticing , a cop called asking why my dog was at the dog park by himself for 30minutes i told him i wasn't aware and id come get him asap , i cant imagine this dude crossing the street and something happening to him or some kid taking off the collar and him going from pound to pound alone without me, hes already got separation anxiety and knowing that just like him there's dogs like that in shelters waiting to be adopted is a fuckedup thing to imagine

Found a missing husky after 20 days and 500 known miles travelled. Who knows how many miles he put on in that time. Super happy to be found. Don’t ever buy a dog bc of appearance. If you love dogs, there are plenty of dogs that NEED a home. Breeders WANT your money. Be responsible.
