@@traderz13 I think GC Kopecky will be a thing in the coming years, especially after she moves teams. But at the end of the day this win was not that surprising. She finished 6th on Tourmalet and none of the first 5 of that day where at this race. I doubt even any of the top 10 of that stage were here. She was dropped by Neve Bradbury and she finished half a minute ahead of Mavi Garcia who is good but not great. And generally speaking, the best female GC riders never go to Jabel Hafeet, so the yearly Watt hype after this climb is not really that relevant.
I consider this a good sign. If Kopecky came 5th, I would expect her to give up on most GC's, but now she might try some more, giving us more exciting stages like this one. (That being said, there will be moments where SD is to dominant, but we already knew that.)

I'm really starting to look forward to the Jebel Hafeet stage with every year. It's such a great climb, that always delivers a spectacle in the early season. It's just a shame that there are literally no spectators until the finish line.
Hey @Lantern Rouge, what do you think of race designs where the whole GC turns on a single climb? I am thinking back to early years of the TDU where a strong sprinter who could get up Willinga less than a minute behind the winner could still feature on the overall podium, whereas now, a race with 3 sprint stages is decided entirely on one climb. Is there a better way?
One team dominating women's cycling is not good for the sport. I'm talking about AG winning every 2025 stage race with the Kopecky/Gigante/Moolman-Pasio trident, of course. Pray for the Dutch.
@@Bellerophon17 No, I think you're right! I'll eat my hat if you're not. Can't see her staying at SD Worx and there's only one place she'll go if she leaves and that's AG Soudal - it's as much her spiritual home as SDW is Demi's.
If you mean what team Mavi's with this year, she's with GreenEdge (I know it's hard to tell because she's always in the Spanish jersey!) - Liv Racing and GreenEdge merged so the team is now Liv Alula Jayco. Garcia is on a two-year contract so she'll still be at GreenEdge next year. She'll likely bow out after that - she'll be 42 in 2026 - but she's so tough she could go on even longer.
Kopecky is just a fraction better in short explosive climbs hence better in the cobble classics, but longer climbs Vollering is a tad stronger. Mountains Vollering is by far the best. Kopecky can battle with everybody else there though
Depends on how you weight the different races. I would say Vollering is better in flèche and any stage race with a cat 2 climb or bigger. Hilly stage races and LBL I don't know.
What do you mean? This is a basic hockey-stick stage. They controlled the race, set the pace on the climb and attacked. What more do you want them to do?
Women's racing may be more exciting to watch than men's racing, in spite of (or maybe because of) the obvious (tactical) errors riders are making. Also insightful for me is that the best watts/kg among women cyclists are comparable to the numbers of a good amateur among male cyclists.

Kopecky was incredible, but the way Lorena Wiebes shredded the peloton was unbelievable. Bodies everywhere 😮
Impressive, but 2k is not the same as 11k of course.
It was actually scary. Like watching Jason or Michael Myers decimate a house party full of teens.
I am glad your race reviews are back. Thanks.
Seeing SD like that really worrys me in terms of having an exciting season 😀

Word, a reboot season😢give SD the 3 rungs and the remainder battle for 4th.
Kopecky at the finish looking absolutely BUILT! I don't know if I'm looking at a powerlifter, a cyclist or a block of steel.
Wonder what her "nutrition program" was like this offseason....

Kopecky climbing like this should really put the other teams on high alert. Even more so if they haven't before. Still rooting for GC Gaia!
I feel like the grand tours might be relatively sdworx centric again this year
i'm afraid so, especially with no Van Vleuten
Let's be honest, Lorena Wiebes climbs better that most of the domestiques in the Peloton..
Actually this would be so important for the future of women cycling to have multiple top teams

Awesome video! Thanks for also making recaps for women’s races ❤
Remco's 50k solo win when?
Cycling is such a great sport, where both the men and women have such incredible physiological motors, powering those ultra expensive bikes.
What a rider. TdFF last year was already insane, now this... Can't wait to see what she does this year!
Kopecky has really been just amazing these last 2 years. Totally agree about Realini, she needs to stay tucked inside a group for as long as possible
Lotte and Demi are two of my favorite riders! Excellent Riders!
If Kopecky keeps progressing like this, there’s no way she or Vollering stay together when their contracts are up
that's great insight on the false flat. really good.
Love the coverage!
Riding style reminds me of remco. Love it
My favorite current cyclist. She really is coming into her own and able to do it all. Love her style!
Kopecky , my favourite rider ( men or women) big smile, super smooth, fantastic engine, very clever tactically!!!
Are you gonna cover the tour de colombia?
Love this channel. Adding timestamps would increase my love 10 fold
