Nice video! My cousin is going to run a marathon next month, so I'm doing some 'research' on how to take the best pictures :)
I remember those days of getting up early enough to get to a race to check out the route. Sometimes the route gets modified a little. So, getting to the event early was smart. These types of event are good to work on candid shots and portraits as well as the action shots. I found that even the serious runners were fun to shoot and they did appreciate the images I made. Some of the events I shot gave me the opportunity to work on my landscape images too. Nice video.
Yes, I joke with people that they may make the event promoters' Instagram or Facebook pages. Some people REALLY ham it up for the camera. I regularly have people thanking me for being there. Thanks for watching!
Love these! Great tips thanks!
Glad you like them!
Cool pics and tips !
Nice video. Massive thanks
excelente video, muy ilustrativo, muy pocos explican como se deben hacer este tipo de tomas, muchas gracias , saludos desde Perú ;)
Muchas gracias!
Hey amazing video. Just wondering what are your setting when taking these pictures?
The aperture is usually wide open or stopped down maybe one stop, auto ISO, and shutter around 1/1600.
Sounds like a good gig. What would one charge for something like this? Since there is no culling or editing...
I've been shooting for that company since 2019 and they pay me based on the length of the race - 5ks are about half the cost of marathons. It's a flat rate rather than an hourly rate. I would think you should be asking for something like $50 an hour (but I can't say what other companies are willing to pay).
You said you send the images straight to the organisers: are these jpegs with presets or do they process your raw files?
At the time I made that video, I was just uploading jpegs straight from camera. They were fine with that because they wanted them to customers ASAP. However, the perfectionist in me asked them to let me do edits and then upload them, which takes longer, but I feel they are getting a better product. They are OK as long as I crank them out ASAP.
What camera strap are you using?
It was a gift from my wife - leather with my name embroidered into it. I don't know the name of the company.
What were your settings for this event, looks great!
Aperture wide open, shutter around 1/2000, auto ISO, daylight white balance. Beyond that, it’s how I edit the images
Nice video
Thanks
Hey Jack! I shoot a lot of these events for different companies. I'm looking to do my own thing. Which website do you use to post the pics of the event? Thanks!
I've got to be honest, I don't think there's much money in trying to sell these photos. Both of the race organizer companies I work for post them for free to participants. But, if you're looking to sell off a website, SmugMug and Zenfolio seem to work fine.
Geosnapshot works well because it has AI software where runners can upload a selfie to find photos of themselves
Did you tell us your settings or did I miss it?
No, I didn't. For the early morning flash photos, I think I just set it around f5.6 and 1/250. For the day photos - aperture priority, f3.2, ISO 200 does the trick.
Usually, for this running people,
1. how much shutter speed you set?
2. the focus mode will be continuous AF?
3. the focus area is center? spot? or wide?
I keep the ISO around 100, the aperture at about 2.8, and the shutter speed above 1/1000. Yes, continuous AF. For individuals, I'd probably use a group setting (depending on the model of the camera) or eye-tracking AF on mirrorless.
thanks man@@JackBeasleyMedia
Do used back button focus?
@@halallen2406 I recently used it alot. Just know how useful it is compared to half pressed shutter button
That looks like a GF Crew bib. :)
Yeah, I was one of their early customers. Haven’t used them much since.
Can you make a reaction video to The lady of heaven movie Trailer? I know this isn’t your type of content but sometimes change can be positive. It’s coming out in AMC theaters on December 10 , 2021 in the US and it is to be expected to have a worldwide release in various countries and it’s fine, your reaction video doesn’t have to be professionally made. what matters is you do it out of the goodness of your heart 😃
