We have a house in the Montezuma area and have flown into both airports. We really don't like flying into SJO at all. Especially navigating out of the airport. We normally fly into LIR, which is smaller and have never had many hassles bringing in stuff for our house. The car rentals are close and with the new Price Smart and Walmart, it is easy to stock up with supplies and head south. They have upgraded the road south of Naranjo and it is a breeze now. No ferry from SJ!
We have not made the trip to our house, since the road was finished. Stuck in Canada. It took us 3.5 to 4 hours in the past, depending on traffic. I would suspect it is now 3 to 3.5 hours, if you don't stop. There are little towns and souvenir shops to stop on the way. Melon plantations and artisan shops also.

Great insight Doug thanks for sharing! How long does it take you now to drive from LIR to Montezuma on a normal day??
