    I cannot express my gratitude for you not naming the specific non-serect hike, at the same time, this is one off the best videos I've seen about this particular adventure. Thank you so much for posting. I'm a fan.

      Thanks -- I appreciate the appreciation. 👍 I do struggle at times with balancing over-exposure vs education re: LNT principles in my videos. Most of my videos are about longer thru hikes which tend to appeal to a different (and smaller) audience. When I do videos focused more on one area, I try to sprinkle in "best practice" ideas while avoiding basic logistics so as to require the inspired viewer to hopefully do a bit more homework before setting out. Thanks for watching and the comment! 🌞

    Free crawfish boil if you don't have enough to eat for dinner (and brought melted butter for dipping).
    I know Northern crayfish (Orconectes virilis) are in the Colorado river system which makes me thing the high lake Powell water introduced them up into the narrow canyons that would have normally been too high for them. They're considered and aquatic invasive species in Utah but they don't generally cause enough impact to be controlled in any way other than natural predation.

    Jamal, You give me Utah fever like no one else. I live in boise and havent been down there for a few years now. Much, much too long. I use to go every spring or fall for 2 weeks and run around in the canyons and shoot photos. Something about that area resonates with me. Something I get nowhere else. Thank you for curbing my utah withdrawals till I can make it back there. Love your vids. Keep it up and I'll be here vicariously tagging along! :)

    I wish I could hit 'Like' multiple times... Awesome gem of a hike! I like the shorter hikes/loops... they're something me & the wife can do and relate to. @Acrossutah  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Richard! I occasionally hike with other people, but it's rare just because my extended hikes require difficult logistics and my shorter hikes tend to be somewhat spontaneous. BUT... I do plan on being back out hiking in Utah this spring -- hopefully doing another long hike -- so keep an eye out! Also... I'll likely make a post on my blog before setting out so that people have a general idea of when/where I'm heading. Happy Hiking! 👍

    I gotta say your camera work is impressive for a one man show. I agree with the ethics of leaving the name/location off of less-known places. If people really want to go find and hike there they'll figure it out on their own - but few ever do and that's probably for the best.

    • @Acrossutah
      @Acrossutah  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I do contemplate my small impact on the overcrowding of our parks/wilderness at times. I actually make some effort to NOT appeal to the mass-market casual hiking community. I address the topic some in my last video, but a big portion of my audience actually consists of people who can't (or can no longer) get out and do what I do for some reason or another. Others can, but they tend to be more serious hikers and thus I like to believe that they will take care of the land and actually help defend it when needed. I think the wilderness deserves to be experienced by anyone and everyone -- as long as it can be respected and preserved for generations to come. Thx for watching!

    Nice video of an area that has been on my list of Escalante area hikes. I just never wanted to drive on that washboard road all the way that far south for a hike I wasn't sure was that great It looked like a nice area however, but I would hate those deep water areas. I have done many backpacking trips in the Escalante area and I don't remember seeing "crawdads".
    By the way, your little quiz about the area you were raised sounded like how I would pronounce these words. So I assumed you were from the midwest. I was raised on a farm in western Missouri. I may have a doctorate in Economics but my midwestern ways have never gone away. It is still "pop" to me.

    • @Acrossutah
      @Acrossutah  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah -- Hole in the Rock Road can be really tough at times (and at other times... not that bad.) The Crawdads are strange because I've seen them in a few areas across southern Utah -- but still not that common. Western Missouri? I grew up in St. Joseph. Thanks for watching and the comment.

    how does the camera follow you as you walk by?? so cool! great video!...are these areas newly exposed due to low water levels>

    • @Acrossutah
      @Acrossutah  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's shot with a 360-degree camera which "sees" everything in all directions and then while editing I can adjust the point of view (and even move from one view to another.) The camera isn't as high quality as a traditional camera, but I love the effect and flexibility. Most of what's seen in this video is above the high-water mark, but that lower section below the waterfall would be below water at times in the past. Thanks for watching and the comment! 🌞✌

    You say that your hike would of been under water from Lake Powell. Is that because of the drought or is the water redirected another way?

    • @Acrossutah
      @Acrossutah  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The lower end of that canyon would be under water when the lake was at full pool -- but it hasn't been at that level for many years due to the drought. The lake has gone back up some, but not nearly to high-water marks. Thanks for watching!
