Thanks for posting this video. It does not surprise me in the slightest that Mr. Sokolov tells Mr. Monsaingeon to "carry on with what you are doing with Glenn Gould" (7:25) when the latter mentions to the former a documentary about the former. Mr. Sokolov is the embodiment of old school, a modest, humble man who sees himself merely as an interpreter who brings to life great compositions penned by geniuses from the distant past.... a rarity indeed these days when those of us who love music are confronted with all manner of performers who come on stage with barely any clothes on, who record themselves playing piano on icebergs, who think that inane publicity stunts are a substitute for musicmaking, or who simply do not know what they are doing when they pick up an instrument. Regards.

I totally agree, Sokolov seems to have accepted his role in shedding some light on legendary performers of the past. I believe he hopes to preserve the traditional ways in which music is interpreted and presented to an audience. Definitely one of the last remaining greats of our time (outside of Argerich, Pogorelich, Pollini to name a few). His connection to Gould definitely stems from Gould's visit in Moscow and meeting with Russian performers like Sviatoslav Richter.

I have a lot of respect for Monsaingeon but I disagree about Armstrong. I heard him once at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées and he could barely be heard even seated in the front row. Beyond this, the playing made no impression on me.

What Kit 😡 You are talking about Grigory Sokolov, true genius, this interview does credit to Monsaingeon only to hear and show nonsense. If you talk about great amazing Sokolov, then talk about him, make another video for that someone kit, and by the way Monsaingeon and Kit both sound terrible. When you talk about Legend alive who is Mr Sokolov, talk about Sokolov only, he does not deserve to be mentioned with those Kits, about them talk separately. Whoever want to hear, they will but do not impose us Monsaingeon to hear these right beside Mr Sokolov!!! Good that Mr Sokolov does not want to make a film with him, he does not deserve such honour!!!
