I liked how this song can have so many interpretations, even with reference to tragic love stories you can just take them as reference to encouragement to do something with courage as those lovers did in past even if it is not related to love only, just strife for something new and what you want as you said. It could even be taken as a message for someone you want to reconcile witrh but the norms dont allow you, could be a firend, family, neighbour, countrymen or even nations...that just forget about the past and lets move ahead..ofcourse intended interpretation could be v different.
