Corporate governance is the system by which companies are directed and controlled. Boards of directors are responsible for the governance of their companies. The shareholders' role in governance is to appoint the directors and the auditors and to satisfy themselves that an appropriate governance structure is in place. The link between corporate governance and good governance is that Corporations that recognize that their business impacts the environment around them create an innate sense of accountability to their societies. Sustainability takes into account a strong concern for the future. It’s in a corporation’s best interest to be socially responsible and innovative because it’s these things that ensure sustainability. The corporation and society will see evidence of that impact now and in the future.
