A dear friend of mine never really came back either. One of the first Navy Seals in Vietnam, signed up again, then was on a Presidential security force as a Seal. After he left the service he held a yard sale and sold all his medals, everything he had from Vietnam. Became a vegetarian. I knew him years later and even then he seemed constantly on the lookout for violence, a haunted smile and moved like he had broken glass inside him...
My dads a Viet nam vet, this song takes me back to my child hood playing loud in his car, he will always be a hero in my eyes, thank all who served, much respect.
@@kittycat7028 There is so much wrong with your statement that I don't even know where to start. First of all you need to separate the people and the soldiers, none of whom wanted the war, from the politicians who executed the war for their own ambitious reasons. Trump came along over 50 years after nam, that's just idioitic. An deiner Aussage ist so viel falsch, dass ich gar nicht weiß, wo ich anfangen soll. At the time, I was way too young to understand. But when I was a teenager, my Uncle Octave, who was in the US Air Force, told stories. As he was part of the transport unit who picked up the "dead" (bagged and tagged) - he would get really upset at the way the bodies were handled. They were just tossed like "proverbial garbage" on the planes. He would literally yell that "they were once alive. Human beings who were loved. Somebodies somebody". And he would ask that they would be a little more respectful. As my Uncle Octave told this story he would always have tears rolling down his face. My Uncle Octaves smoked like a chimney, drank like a fish and eventually died of cancer. God Bless Him. He had so much insight. And his pain was real enough for him to smoke and drink himself to death. God Bless the Soldiers, Then and Now. Because without them, we would not have a country, much less be the country we are. No matter how you feel about it.

To all you Vietnam vets: you have my upmost respect and honor. My dad served four tours in Vietnam as an advisor and battalion commander. Thank you for your service from a retired Coastie to honorable men and women who served.
This song brings back memorIes. Our Dad did two tours in Vietnam and when he came home from his last tour, I was very young , but I remember it being really late at night when we picked him up from the airport because of the way they were being treated, being spit on and called baby killers by some people. What a shame, they deserved better than that. Our Dad passed away in 2009. He served his country well. We're thankful and proud of him. We love and miss him with all our hearts. ( We love you Dad!!! ❤)
Amen, I hear you loud and clear... saw that with my own eyes... I was against the war personally, but never the GI's.. the actions of some of the "demonstrators" was right up there with antifa...
While I am a combat veteran from Iraq 2003, I have family that fought in Nam, Korean war, Bosnia, Grenada, Panama, WW2. Myself and my team listened to all of the songs from that era. We never forgot, and all of veterans of Afganistan and Iraq hold ALL veterans from Nam with the most respect. ALL Veterans!!! You gentleman set me up for success and the rest of my soldiers. We honor you, and we have learned from you! Please keep telling your experiences to the younger generation, so that we can continue with progress. To ALL veterans... thank you!

Merci Jason tu peux être fier de toi, (pour moi c'était Liban 1992). On peut êtres fier de tous les vétérans, et on peut être fier de tous les jeunes soldats qui se battent aujourd'hui dans le monde
My brother Joey served in 67 -70. Till this day he doesn't watch war movie it reminds him of the horror's over there. Don't get me wrong he's mentally fine it's just the Bad Memories.
The only Vietnam film I have ever watched to the end was The Siege of Firebase Gloria. I didn't see the beginning and at first I thought it was a WW2 film. When I realized what it was I almost turned it off. My feelings are that if I need to know more than I do I can just pick up the phone and question an expert. Anyway, I thought in the end it was worth watching. More than that I can not give.
@Edward - I hate to inform you but, your brother is probably not "mentally fine". I can assure you that he suffers from PTSD. Having been diagnosed with this condition over a decade ago, I wish there was someway to reach your brother and convince him to open up to a psychologist and/or psychiatrist experienced with treating veterans. So many advances have been made in the treatment of this condition that it is somewhat curable today if diagnosed and treated in time. As for me and my fellow vets who suffer from chronic PTSD, I'm thankful beyond my ability describe for the treatment I have received from the VA. I feel that I have given some of my life back.

This is a no shitter: I was a gunner on convoys, Iraq 05-07 and I was talking on the intercom bitching that when they make a movie about what we did (NPDB1) that the sound track would SUCK! Because the music at the time sucked. So I said that we all got to sing some kool shit so we can say that the music really happened. We all sang Wooly Bully driving down some crap 3rd world road with IED's, camels, man dresses in the back ground. But we didn't know the words and it was all "Wooly Bully"......and more Wooly Bullys. Good times!

I joined the usmc, was in San Diego. Volunteering to go to Vietnam. One week latter they handcuffed me, turned me over to CHP at the gate,I was put on nonstop jet to albq. Was taken off the plane by a new mexico state police and driven to Espanola n.m. I lied about my age. I only needed a couple of weeks to be of age. They thought it was a big scam. All I wanted to do was make it a career.
Like a lot of guys sent to 'Nam, many had kids or kid sisters and Bros, They were little more than Target practice yet the U.S government had some crazy idea about sending, nonstop, the youth of the Country. Large numbers of draftees were sent from the Streets of New York, I know from what I saw myself in Tan Son Nhut and Danang. Our C-130's and KIWI Bristol Freighters took up Medical and food supplies from Changi,The American government had a pact with one of their Politicians (McNamara) to 'Clean Up the Streets of NY City and so hundreds of Afro Americans were shipped up there. All this and many sickening details of the 'war' including clearing Afro Americans from the Streets of NYC are written in a book titled 'NAM'. The Vietnam Experience.1988 by ORBUS Publishing Ltd. this is NOT a story book believe me, it is a blow by blow account of that dreadful action. The book was 1st published in London by the Octopus Publishing group Michelin House, 81 Fulham Road, London SW3 6RB. 1988. The Blow by Blow pages give the truth, it is certainly not a story book full of 'heroic' fights, rather it displays accurately the deviant policies dreamed up by U.S politicians and their ilk. I was around 27 years old those days and experienced in Jungle warfare from the days of Malaya's emergency actions 1949-1960. Vietnam was a totally different model of ultra mechanised war coupled with a relentless and non stop supply of trained and well armed hostile troops. (Unlike the ones I had experienced in Malaya where Bandits and armed Terrorists were the enemy and NO armour was utilised, it was almost ALL footbashing. Helicopters were almost non existent in my days.ANyone interested should try get a hold of this History Book, there's no 'light reading' in it just the truth. it is Packed with color foto's too'.NAM, The Vietnam Experience' 1965-75, if not available at your bookshops locally AMAZON will have copies. Yes AGREE 100 percent! Im a victim of WWII Sfather (USMC SaiPan, Tinian, Marshall Islands, Occupied Japan). Dad, RIP I will always respect you and know it wasn't your fault. You willingly SERVED YOUR COUNTRY USA, took the enemy bullets, trudged the jungles with holes in your shoes, lay in foxholes sometimes with your brethren being shot dead around you; praying when it would end. You lead your men and tried to keep all of you safe to see back home. Unbeknownst, All the while, making it possible for me to have a better life. You made it back home but a mental wreck with no one to tell and help. You worked hard and tried to maintain a normal life and kept your oath of silence, your secret untold til the very end. Thank You! I understand and you are a HERO.

My grandpa, who died this time last year (at 88 y.o.) always sang this when i was a youngin in 93' , he was the Very First Filipino Marine Drill sergeant. drinking and dedicating this to my papa!

I've love this song! 1965, every time I heard this on the radio, me and my old neighborhood kids would sing and dance our asses off to it!!!! KOIL Radio in Omaha, Nebraska, was one of our top music stations in the 1960's & 1970's!!! They play every hit records. Good old days!!!!
Horrible....and to think these morons who are senseless protesting how their suffering. They needed to taste Nam for a day. Those clueless, disrespectful son of a bitches.
I discovered this song from pandora and had no clue the story that goes along with it. Thank you to all the heros that served in that bloody war. You all deserved more respect coming home
Got married at 16 in 1970! Two weeks later husband left for Basic! Went to Viet Nam! Came home a different man! I stayed for 14 years, but never the same! God Be with all those men who went to Vietnam!
My 2 grandpas were in WW2, my husband flew during Desert Storm, we have 2 grandsons in the Marines, our oldest and his middle brother. @Doug Richardson especially these milliannians who take everything for granted and disrespectful to our flag, our nation.....as much as I wouldn't wish those experiences, they should get a taste of it to realize how fortunate they are; especially at the expense of our veterans.

Greetings from the Ohio Porters. 🇺🇸 I really enjoyed the pics and music! It was bittersweet…I have an uncle that was part of the body recovery team and have many friends who were in Vietnam. Some of them share their stories but some won’t talk about it at all! I know about some good and bad stories, but I also know that many of our returning troops weren’t treated well at all. THIS BREAKS MY HEART! Many gave it all, but some gave the ultimate sacrifice! I am one red blooded American that appreciates all the sacrifices and who thanks God for you and your families! I love seeing these pictures! 🥰🇺🇸
My grandpa was in Vietnam from ‘67-‘69 and was in the 604th transportation company in Pleiku and he would never tell anything to my dad but would tell me things about his time there to me and my older brother. To this day my dad is still shocked about how open my grandpa was with me and my brother but never with him. I am now an avid collector of the Vietnam war along with all my grandpas items that he had collected. He passed away two years ago and it feels just like yesterday that I last saw him. Miss you old man 1946-2020❤️
One of our substitute teachers was a Vietnam Vet. Kids would joke about how he just let us do whatever we felt like and would just sleep in class. At the time it was funny because unprofessionalism was rare in middle school but I can only imagine the shit this guy went through.
We as americans should stand together and never let the government use our beloved troops like that again. God bless everyone that takes the oath to protect this beautiful land we call home. Thank you to all much love and respect.
I was in high school when Vietnam ended. I enlisted in the Army in 1977 right after graduation. We had 13 drill sergeants in our basic training company, 2 were in Korea and Vietnam and 10 others were also in Vietnam, only 1 drill sergeant was not a combat veteran. I was so blessed and fortunate to have enlisted when I did because I got to serve with WWII, Korean and Vietnam veterans all at once. I feel I got an education from all these veterans from the wars mentioned that no college or university could have ever gave me. My grandfather and several great uncles were in WWII, cousins in Korea and an uncle and MANY friends in Vietnam. Once I started wearing the uniform and with time as I got to know these veterans, I considered it an honor that many of them trusted me and felt comfortable enough around me that they opened up and told me of what they had went through. Some of the stories from veterans of the three wars mentioned would make you cringe and raise the hair on the back of your neck. I did not have to read about the history of these wars because I had the honor and luxury of hearing about them from the men who were there, who seen it, who lived it, that is something I WILL ALWAYS treasure. I always had a high respect for veterans, partly because so many family members had served all the way back to the Revolutionary War, but after serving with these great men, my respect skyrocketed even more. Other than Almighty God who has the most respect, the American veteran has my next greatest respect. God bless ALL veterans, past, present and future.
I'm a Vietnam vet 68-69, I got home in the fall of 69. At the same time, one of my best friends got home in the same time frame. We went out one night for a couple beers and stopped at a local VFW. A couple WW2 vets came up to us and started giving us crap for being Nam vets. I told them where to stick it and informed them that any organization that would have them as members would never get my support. Since that time I have been asked several times to join the VFW and I still decline. I realize I should get over it but I still can't. We went through a lot from the protesters but I never expected it from vets.
I went and was lucky enough to return relatively unscathed unlike some of my friends and acquaintances. May they rest in peace....Co. D, 1st Battalion, 16th Inf . Regt., 1st Inf. Div. Lai Khe (Rocket City) 1968
Rest in peace, to the dead veterans that serve this country. We couldn’t be here without their service, and God bless them, and God bless our current live in Veterans for their service
Lots of earned respect and gratitude goes to these Patriots - they were fighting a war that some wouldn't even send their own sons . The "S.O.B" politicians - are behind all the carnage. Thank you Vietnam Veterans for your sacrifice.
Special mention to 'Bone Spurs" and his privileged family who will never serve for our beautiful country whom they have taken so much undeservingly... And shame for those who voted for him

So sad..but ge is loved and respected by those of us who knew about the hardships and personal sacrifice!!❤❤❤
Amen, I hear you loud and clear... saw that with my own eyes... I was against the war personally, but never the GI's.. the actions of some of the "demonstrators" was right up there with antifa...

We honor you, and we have learned from you! Please keep telling your experiences to the younger generation, so that we can continue with progress. To ALL veterans... thank you!

Over 60,000 dead in Vietnam. Never forget the MIA's. They never came back.
EVERYONE THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE. My father was there and I will never ever forget that when he came home when I was 6 and trust me when a 6 year old knows that her daddy ain't right he was a hot mess. The thing's he went through and I tried to be there for him. I Miss him So Very Much he passed in 1998.
If the shoe were on the other foot , would you be thanking soldiers for their service if Russia claimed they were invited and started killing American civilians in the name of some ideal ?
@@Bradgilliswhammyman We would never understand WAR. But I still would like to thank everyone for their service. We only get to know what they wanted us to know We never get the answers for and into the war.
I remember my dad listening to this song all the time on 8 track. He served in Vietnam 66 to 69 173rd LRRP and step dad 25 infantry
I saw Sam the Sham and the Pharohs in 1966 while training at Fort Polk. If my memory is right it was at Lake Charles at the state fair. One of my favorite songs.
Like they said in Nam: "It Don't Mean Nuthin'"
Vietnam good soldiers betrayed by the worst politicians

The Americans went to Vietnam to help the south Vietnamese fight the communist north even though its not the Americans land everyone should fight communism and their sacrifice was somewhat in vain seeming as college kids value socialism and communism in America greetings from Australia

Never knew this related to the Viet Nam war, no disrespect. I’ve always loved this song. My thanks and love to all these men and women and their families. 💖
My heart goes out to all the veterans and in my opinion the Vietnam war vets were fighting a war while listening to the best music
what a song, what a time, the 60's and 70's, my uncle fought in Vietnam, rest in peace...
Dein Onkel hat unzählige unschuldige Vietnamesen getötet

My ex was in Vietnam and some of the stories I heard... Bad bad stuff. I supported our vets then and still do ❤💙
My dad served in the Navy in the early fifties. Fought during the forgotten war. My Uncle Jimmy died there from the Army. He was nineteen. My dad's brother.
So sad that the Generation like the WW2 Guys are "passing on" nowadays ...we NEED to get their Storys!!!Especially about Korea....."the forgotten War"....soon they will all be gone. Nam Vets are next in Line. If we don´t get their Memories shared, People will be "forced" to get through it again and again and again. I was in the Gulf in the 90ties, they told us that "this is the last War here".....well, what a Bullshit. Same Area in 2003, next Generation had to endure it again....what a Clusterfuck.
I was in Vietnam in 1969 and for a while was stationed at a firebase named Wooly Bully in Kontum Province so this song has a special meaning for me-though likely different from most others.
Bist du Mörder darauf stolz ? , stolz unzählige unschuldige Vietnamesen getötet zu haben ?
To all our Vietnam Vets, thank you for all your sacrifices, America owes you brave men a great debts.... much honor and respect... ❤️❤️❤️ my dad flew F4 phantoms..
We called em "Fast Movers" or Fox 4's", and they looked damn good dropping napalm all around us in close support.
Dein Vater hat wie alle anderen verfickten Amerikaner in Vietnam einen Genozid gemacht !!!

God bless you , Jessie!

At 10, I was too young to know much about the war in Vietnam, but loved this song then, and still do today. Amazing to realiz that many of them were only 8 years older than me.
My cousin Eddie, whom I adored, died in Vietnam at age 19. He was 2 months to the day older than me. We'd both be 69 now. I miss him ad much today ad I did then. God bless you, Eddie.

My ex was a tet Nam survivor and he said the music then was his saving grace! He lost many but kept them in his heart. The music was a life line to home. The music kept the demons at bay
I read the notes and tear up, thank you all for the service that you gave and regret that you all had to endure such a horrific time, which for many, still lingers on.
