Feeling compelled to write a 2nd comment. In a world of craft brewing, bearded, plaid shirt wearing, Cathart clothing wearing hipsters, this gentleman blows them all out of the water! I could listen and learn from him all day long .

I have a beard and a plaid shirt and am head of production at a foreign brewery making IPAs and NEIPAs etc etc. All i want to do is head to the countryside and make beer like this. I miss cask so much!

Beers that look like orange juice and taste like bubblegum or fruitjuice isn’t really my thing. Been homebrewing since early nineties, was really appreciative when the first wave of new breweries came online, taste before profit, but have a hard time enjoying all those ’new’ styles of overhopped brews but it seems thar there is a return to more timetested styles, even though they still have a long way to go. There is nothing better than a Central European lager brewed using only one type of malt and one type of european noble hops (the og smash beer), either step-, or decoctionmashed, fermented for 10~14 days, lagered for at least three weeks, no filtration or pasteurization and served ’ungespundet’. Rant over and🍻.

Hi Chris, I used to deliver crystal malt, once a fortnight too Harvey's Brewer in my younger days. Old Mr Jenner used to greet me on arrival, and always asked if I had a good trip down. He was always dressed in a suit and bow tie, and at Christmas eve I always had to do a delivery, so they had stock for New Year, and he always gave me a crate of beer and said, don't forget to bring the bottles back 😂. He was a real gentleman, one of a kind.

I love nostalga stories. Very heart warming. All jobs used to be so much more dressed up. My great in-laws were dairy famers and you could eat off the walls in the barn. My in-laws, their kids, dairy farm no way Super dirty.
The grand in-laws wore bleached bright white jump suits and they were spotless in regular pictures. Or they dressed up. But the barn was spotless, that is hard to do with whipping cow tails covered in poo

@@Geterbrewed Some places do have cask, but they're few and far between. It's catching on a bit in homebrewing though, people using kegs as casks and rigging up beer engines. I've only bottled my UK-style brews (actually i've kegged a few too, but still no cask), someday would like to have a proper setup. cheers!

No, I live in Milton Keynes and I do not drink in Pubs very often now-a-days cos I cannot afford it and I make a mean pint myself (for the last 40-50 yrs or so). It is just that your vid reminded me of an organised Brewery Trip to Hansons of Kimberly lots of years ago when I lived in Ilkeston Nr Nottingham and Derby and the guide/owner made reference to some modern day stainless steel kit just installed was that it was what the women liked to drink (The beginning of the 'measured pint' era and what were called 'Cask Beers' I think, insipid fizzy stuff)
I regret not knowing more about home brew all grain brewing at that time but they also had open top fermenters. Looked a bit like small tiled Sauna Plunge Pools and the contrast between that area (pristine/sterile) to the rest of the place (agricultural 🙂) was abrupt.
They are alas, no more, taken over by Mansfield Ales I think while I wasn't looking.
Many thanks for your Field Trip type vids btw.

During the pandemic Harveys were some of the few brewers selling draught beer which they packaged in polypins for home consumption. I live in the Manchester area and when I ordered there was next day delivery. Excellent service. I have met Miles Jenner on two occaisions and he a true gentleman. I have also bought directly from their shop in Lewes and they are a pleasure to deal with. Whenever I visit Sussex I always stay in Lewes. If Harveys closed Sussex would not be the same again.

Very intriguing tour. Will there be any more detail shared on their aquifer or they're energy reducing no boil methods? Loved the short of their open top yeast proogation (I think that's what it was). Reminded me of chefs table pizza edition where incredible pizza makers are propagating their pizza yeast and dough over days and days. Incredible craft and tradition.

a hop back is essentially a drum that you fill with hops and then run the wort through. The hop cones form a filter for the wort, and it can yield a much cleaner wort, along with imparting a large dose of aromatics and flavor to the finished beer.
