I actually liked the IKEA dupes MORE than the designer version. I feel bad for rich people who try so hard to impress by spending a lot of money they don't have to spend. How many normal people see a rich person's house and just assume the rich person had to buy all his/her furniture at IKEA? LOL!

Yeah buying designer doesn't mean you are rich & shallow & live your life trying to impress ppl. 🙄 What a petty & narrowminded take.
This is typical thinking of someone who doesn't even understand what design is. Also IKEA has been dragged to court many times for litteraly infringing on copyright.
Designers had to get formal education & spend months to research materials, functionality sourcing & price range before even designing plans for something.
Then when it's nich or craftsmanship there's no database & they need an experts feedback for a specific material. They also get paid a premium.
Then there's they make a few samples to get tested in a lab, get a report of what doesn't meet a quota ; whether for safety, ergonomics, functionality, etc
      Send to expert, get report.
Then remake another batch of samples all over again till final product.
The work and material factor into price.
Then IKEA or any fast fashion companies just rip the whole design off, goes to produce it in Chinese sweatshops, with materials like cheap plastic, cardboards structures with wood imitation sheets, polyester etc
And then ppl like you are like 'look at these 🤡 ! getting scammed when you can get the _exact same thing_ (no its not ) elsewhere for way less !''
Nah if these places had to pay their designers for the whole designing & research process for ALL of their pieces & use high end materials, you wouldn't even getting these kind of prices in the first place.
This is absolutely not discounting that some brands litteraly upcharge you only for their name, like Superdry, which is the same quality as H&M.
Or something like Lululemon which pretends to be high end but has cheap materials & finished which they sell at 3 figures, which is why they failed in Europe.

@@greyscalesx We're talking furniture, not pharmaceuticals or high tech, of course. A couch is basically a couch. A table is basically a table. Let's not get our panties in a wad.
And a lot of designer stuff is manufactured in part or copletely in China, anyway. A lot of the cheaper stuff comes in boxes and the buyer has to assemble it (which removes some of the labor cost). Apparently, you read a lot more into what I had written than I had intended. I was just saying that looks are often comparable and, for normal use purposes, the cheaper item can be very nice looking and functional. And I do question why some wealthy people spend their money in a way that I (personally) consider to be unnecessary. Not necessarily a petty & narrowminded take, but you have made it clear that you differ.

I just bought the Tällbyn table lamp. The positive: It's a really beautiful lamp. The less positive and the reason why I'm returning it: Quality is pretty low. The fit of the shade on the holder is suboptimal. Could probably be fixed with a suitable ring (easy when you have the fingers to do it). The worst however is the metal. It's apparently nickel plated iron topped with a laquer. And it cade prescratched and laquer already flaking straight from the packaging. Yes I'm 100% sure it was a new lamp never opened before. Just disappointing. Even though it's quite expensive in my country compared to UK and DE I'd happily pay even 25-50% had it been good quality. Stainless og proper chromed metal part without laquer and better precision of the shade. There's cheap and there's too cheap. A lot of recent Ikea buys unfortunately has been too cheap even though they look great to start with.

Hi, I'm so sorry you didn't have a good experience with the TÄLLBYN lamp 😞 I actually have the floor lamp, and I get what you're saying about the shade. However, I like the overall feel of the lamp, and in my opinion it is a quality lamp - it has a glass shade, spreads soft light, I love the switch to turn it on and off and it is so heavy because of the nickel base. Mine is not flaky or anything like that, and I've had it for over a year.
But different experiences I vet it, and it is a pricey lamp, I will agree with you on that one! 🙌

    • @HifiCentret
      @HifiCentret 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@HomeByMon To be honest I'm not sure everybody would notice as it is minimal. But still. Laquer on top of nickeling doesn't bind very well - it won't hold up with time. Had been a lot better that they skipped the laquer and made a thick nickeling - even better yet real chrome. They could also just make it in untreated brass - it'll patinate very beautiful (though personally I'd prefer it pre browned). Sure brass is probably a little more expensive but requiring less finishing steps and probably easier to work with as well it might not even be more expensive as all. Any which way lacquer over nickel is not a good long term choice.

Hi Mon, ❤ ur channel… question are you Swedish and you only say Ikea the way most people pronounce it but is it really supposed to be “eeh keh yah”?

I am not Swedish, but I am from a country in Europe. It's called Macedonia, and we pronounce Ikea the same way. I am pretty sure that's the right way ☺️
