Beautiful mug. It was wonderful to watch it transform. I didn’t think you could clean up the blank. I wish I could have smelled it as you were turning. I to like you music. Fun to watch
Thank you so much for watching. Cedar turn pretty easy, gouging the inside is definitely the hardest part. I have cheaper tooling which doesn't help either.
I welded a screw to the end of the square rod that comes with the rotisserie. Then just screw it into the cup. Afterwards I fill the tiny hole with epoxy.

Beautiful job brother. Awesome grain pattern too. Extra bonus was hearing Zacks music for the 1st time. It was half way through the first song before I realized it was a gospel song. Thanks Man. Regards, Kevin.
Yes, it is a craftsman. Ive made a lot with that little lathe. Some one actually gave it to me. I have since bought a slightly bigger/heavier one. Woodcraft or something like that. Thanks for watching.
Good looking mug! That piece of wood turned out to be a Looker! Think that I'm going to get back to lathing. I want to master making mugs! Again, great job!
I know people have used all kinds of oils, but I personally don't like it because it doesn't 100% seal the wood like epoxy if you plan to use it as a drinking mug or cup. I'm not sure on tung oil if its safe for consumption. Walnut, mineral and some other types of oil are safe. But you would have to apply it periodically through the life of the cup. I hope that helps and answers your question. Thanks so much for watching.
Can you tell me where you got the tool that was spinning the cup while you were finishing it? It looks really useful in my shop. Thank you for your video.
Thanks for the video but I really would have preferred it not to have the music. I like to hear the craftsperson talk and say what they are doing and the reason for their decisions. Obviously some things don't needs to be said or a bunch of things may be covered with a simple statement. But when it comes to the design choices and the more complicated actions it would be nice to know why or what's being done. For example, why did you choose to use a walnut handle instead of cedar? I'd say that maybe if you said some of these things in the video you might not get so many questions but considering you got questions about what you did with the inside of the cup when you showed that you had put epoxy on it I don't think it would. :)
Yeah, I'm not much of a talker. And as I design these things I'm just kinda winging it and seeing what the wood wants to do. Trying different things to see the outcome. When I did this video it was only like my third thing I had ever turned, so I was learning what I was doing too. Haha. It also was maybe my fifth video. Also to spread the gospel was a big part of me starting my channel, so the music was a subtle way to do that. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I really enjoy talking to someone that has taken the time to watch one of my videos.
I really like your coffee cup...But I was wondering if you had used Shellac would it had protected the wood as well as the 2 part resin finish you used? Thanks for the video and God Bless
I don't think the epoxy would work over the shellac. The shellac isn't food safe either, like the epoxy is. Hope that answered your question. Thank you for watching.

This was a old craftsman.
Wonderful cup! Really Beautiful! Is that finish dishwasher safe? How long does it hold up?
The epoxy is dishwasher safe, and the cup has held up for 2 years now. It is a very durable finish.
Who is the artist that is on this video ?
Zach williams

So you epoxied the inside of the cup also? Do you let it dry as it rotates, and how does the epoxy hold up to heat from coffee or tea? Thanks.
Yes the entire cup gets coated. I've used it for coffee with no issues. I wouldnt, microwave it though. The epoxy I use holds up to some crazy heat.
And yes, I continue to let the rotisserie turn all night until it cures completely.
