The most comprehensive explanation! I watched a few videos and still confused. Now I understand it perfectly. Thanks a lot

Thank you for such a clear & well explained video regarding spacetime diagrams. I found it extremely helpful. For most of us, physics is a difficult subject to comprehend & most physic's videos are too technical for a layperson. However, yours was explained in such a manner that I understood it without difficulty. I hope you continue to present more.

physics is only difficult it you include BS in with a real physics principals. Spacetime and Special Relativity is couterintuitive because its BS.
      Its that simple.

So it's the same as a regular diagram except with demonstrating where light is, as well as changing the units of the axises relative to each other.

I saw the term: "time dilation" from the 10th episode of "Elementary", after I googled I found out that time is actually changeable if you contouring on different benchmark. But the time. which used to mature the location of events that happened in historical, is excludable. We only have a single irreversible line through our whole life.
I wish time is counterclockwise, Then I gonna study harder on my physics......

Nicely made video. I find it too bad however that you take 8 minutes to explain the easy parts and 30 seconds to explain the hard(er) part. I don't really understand what you said. If somebody could maybe clarify with a comment that would be nice.

    Please define:
    light ray.
    Clarify "stationary in space".

    Too bad.
This is a very superficial video. Space time diagrams and world (or event) lines are trivial. Its just the usual Cartesian construct with the time axis vertical and space (length) axis horizontal. Big deal!!
Now what is NOT trivial is SPACETIME. But for that one has to incorporate the idea that the speed of light is the same for all frames. This was not done here. Then it can be shown that the time in moving frames depends not only on clock speed (which becomes slower) but also on its SPATIAL LOCATION when seen by an observer in a stationary frame. For example, clocks located in the back, the middle and the front of a fast horizontally moving spaceship will read different times as seen bythe observer in the resting frame, even though each clock will show equally slowed down clock speed. The time in the rear clock will be advanced as compared to the leading one. The spatial location induced time difference increases with faster speed of travel and increased spatial separation. OTH an observer in the spaceship (provided it is not accelerating) will see no alteration of clock speed nor spatial asynchrony. As you might have guessed this is also called failure of simultaneity (FOS)
It is THIS dependence of time on location in space or FOS which constitutes space time and not just graphing with the time axis vertical and length axis horizontal.

Why is light 45 degrees? I thought it would be straight to the right since light travels thru space but time stands still at light speed so it would be zero on the time graph.

Your space-time diagram is incorrect Your understanding of space & time is wrong 🙂🙂🙂

You know, sometimes I wish I were wrong and that the universe wasn't so difficult. But there is actually a lot to enjoy about the beauty and mystery too. It is also a great reminder that human beings are poor at perceiving ultimate reality. Thanks for engaging in such a constructive debate with your very helpful comment and emojis.

@@ACUpeeps hey guys and gals I'm serious about my comment Your graphing info. Has to be up-dated And how do I know this I know this because Ive done experiments that prove how space-time really works And that there are differences Between living matter and non-living matter At the qm level on large objects And Ive been telling lots of scientist this Or at least trying to That there are two (2) different forms of math One math for non-living things Like all dead matter (Galaxy's , solar systems , planets , ect) And another math For all living-things like (plants , animals , and humans) Real graphing of an object Is not what an object does to it-self In it's own movement(s) To cause it-self to move (willingly) ...OH ! NO ! NO ! NO ! But what another object does to (it) To cause (it) to move !!! (unwillingly) 😁😁😁 And this is a proven fact Hee hee hee I'm so excited That I'm the only one that knows this I always wondered Why the science community couldn't solve (space-time , the location of dimensions , and light-speed) And most of all """quantum gravity !!!""" And then I found out why Your understanding of the nature of quantum physics (science) Was still in the distant math and assumptions of the past That's how I know 😊😊😊 Laterz But don't worry I'm going to reveal this in the coming future But just not quit yet 😉😉😉 Don't you just love emojis ...Hee hee...

    Define dimension please
And why not call "world" line an EVENT line? world line is both pompous and worse still mere jargon.
    Actually a pretty useless video
