It is a model MW-300. There were variations of the headstock script, yours has the block lettering which places it in the mid eighties. I believe they were made in the same factory that makes Cort guitars. Try to find another guitar with a 12 fret and a deep body like this. Lovely bass tone.
Thanks for the info!
Try a “kung foo” neck reset, very quick and easy. Requires a saw and a bolt. I’ve done that on my cheap guitar!
Kung fu, 😆
Yeah, I managed to get it playable without resorting to hackery.
Hondo II was also from South Korea and had some nice classical guitars now available very cheap at Goodwill stores...
Yes, I've had a few.
I have probably a newer one like his. It is I believe, an HW-03. Bought it new about 10 years sgo. I believe they quit making guitars soon aftet. There are still nylon string Hohner classical guitars, new, selling on Amazon USA. Price sometimes tips to about $45. They are smaller, 30" guitars with 20" scale length.
Interesting, don't see quite as many in the UK.
You could put on a high nut and some rollerwound strings and convert it to a dobro guitar
Ha... like the archtop I just reviewed!
Unlikely to straighten the neck with heat because you can't slacken the steel reinforcing as you would a normal truss rod.
I have though, had some serious success with woodblocks, clamps and 20 minutes of heat from a domestic fan heater.
Very true. I've done the heat and clamp thing but it often reverts back.
aside from the neck reset, it looks like there's a slight dip in the body, which means the bracing might need regluing or more support near the sound hole. Done quite a bit of that before, but likely not worth the trouble on this. Good little knock-around guitar though
Braces were fine... but there was a bit of bellying.
The bracing is failing and the sound board is folding. That could be the only problem.
Bracing was fine - top had bellied a little, which is common with these guitars.
