Have you checked out SNK video game art? Shinkiro, who currently works at Capcom, use to work with SNK defined the look of The King Of Fighters. He did all the team portraits for every annual release from 1994-2000. Another artist you might want to check out is Hyung-Tae Kim. I just happened to run across his art book at a Japanese book store. His character designs are awesome.
Hyung-Tae Kim was the artist I was mentioning back a video or two ago. I couldn't remember his name but I found him online when he was just getting going...and he got better and better...I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO into his work. amazing art.
Those are all by Bengus. Alvin Lee did the character portraits for Super Street Fighter II HD Remix. Most of Alvin Lee's Capcom art was for the Udon comics.

You should check out Daisuke Ishiwatari he a programmer, musician, artist and creator on the Guilty Gear series its a fighting game series from the late 90s til now that has heavy influence on Metal Hard Rock and manga like Bastard!

Ahh the final take Away where you brought up creating such a unique cast of characters that one day you’ll be able to make a collection group shot illustrations really hit home with me ^ 💥💥💥💥💪🏽👏🏽 worldbuilding is one of the most satisfying things for me when it comes to creating stories so I’ll slowly but surely build up my own universe , I’m a ways in now but a long fun way to go ! The 3rd strike pixel animations are the best animations of all time. The flowing clothes, the smoothness, oh man. I suck at the game but I love it.

The original Capcom book was the holy grail for me when I found it back then. I would go back to LA and find some gems and return to SD.

A book on its own, the art of street fighter. Theres been several versions including versions translated into English and published by Udon.
