Why is Gould so mesmerizing to watch play? Colleagues say that what is inside the person will come out in his music and his mannerisms. Gould was such an unearrthly sensitive human being, we get to watch some of the ecstacy that was so deep inside him here. I love it that he gave himself over totally to his art. Calling to the "deep" and bringing it to the surface so it's message can be shared with others. What an awesome performance. Cheers for Bach and Gould. Thank you laineokit
I've heard it said that Gould used no pedal in his Bach. But this is clearly not the case. He uses here a minimum amount of pedal, and ever so judiciously. Nice!
@@이수진-k8e How about trying? It was the most rewarding experience in my life when I was practising a piece by Bach last summer. Listening to this: th-cam.com/video/K6wuIgSSKPg/w-d-xo.html I also feel like trying. But I need another season or two. : ) Actually Bach's music was a bit boring to me, but after this...: th-cam.com/video/qt8-Td6kJnI/w-d-xo.html whole things changed.
I wish Glenn had donated his brain to science. Like Einstein he probably had an overabundance of glial cells- neuronal connections we can only dream of.
@The55555SSSSS crap! I've found the whole interview (incuding this recording) on yt 1 month ago but I've lost it! After reading your comment, I was sure to finding it in my favourites: it's not there :'( I'm totally destroyed! Anyway, I'm pretty sure this was recorded in 1974 and restored in 2002. Please drop me an inbox if you find the whole interview (I'm sure is on youtube and I'm even a genius in tracking unknown/forgotten videos on yt, but this time I've lost!)
OK my unicorn recording I have lost is the Richard Strauss interview, anyone have that? It was on the CBC radio site for several years, but it is gone now. Plus I need the Schoenberg documentary, and anti-alea documentary (which is a riot, and so heartfelt as well) email at kkicons@gmail.com --might have something cool to trade uploaded by summer :)
Glenn Gould is a cheater. He's left handed; He's also brilliant. I've decided his (strong) left hand creates part of the sound he creates in playing Bach.
@karmineka But I am far from it - a mean walkign bass - how do you dare to use word like this - This guy's emotional way of playing is far from what I had in mind no matter how perfectly he plays - Johann Sebastian Bach Cantor Leipzig - Ja Mein Karl Richter - der spielt das mit Gefuehl und vollkommen dazu - das klingt wohl in meine Ohren
I've listened to many pianists but after hearing glen . . Noone comes close . . God how I wish he was still here xx
Karla Cosgrove I second your wish.
Words cannot describe the talent of Gould, but what is also so amazing, one always sees him playing everything from memory. How is that even possible?
No other player ever came close to Glenn!! Thank goodness there is so much film! So sad he had to die so young at 50. ; (
Bach and glenn.the elevation of the soul is granted

One and only!!!
Glenn Gould forever!!
I could watch and hear him playing for hours.
Agreed. For me watching Gould play enriches the listening experience.
He is a piano magician. Most delightful performance.
Mesmerizing is precisely the right word. Glenn Gould captivates me, with or without video.
Nos dejo toda su alma a traves de sus manos, junto al amor a la musica..........❤
what light fingers! what emotions! Utter beauty!
divine perfection
In the world but not of the world.
@Lerviop Bach created the art, and Gould re-interpreted it, only adding his own flourishes. Amazing.
thanks for the upload!
I've been waiting for this
The sound disappeared from the video ???
I was stuck in Marrakech for 10 days and without this recording I would have gone insane - thanks GG.

i was accidentally listening to it 1.5 times faster and i was like wtf is he miming 8 bit music
We' re still looking for Glenn, missing Glenn, mentioning Glenn.
What makes you return to Glenn? I'm not such a big fan for Glenn, but I'm just wondering why people like him so much.
Sorry I don't know what makes me return to him. But I just like his playing the piano. I like his sounds and stories.
@@이수진-k8e It was a stupid question. Do you play Bach's works?
No, I want to. ^^ But There are many good excellent amasing beautiful pianists in our world. I am really thankful to them.

Sometimes it seems that Gould and Bach could be the same creature!!
eyes closed?! bravo!
I truly admire that ring finger and little finger, he got be have an equally distributed finger region for each finger at his M1 cortex...
I wish Glenn had donated his brain to science. Like Einstein he probably had an overabundance of glial cells- neuronal connections we can only dream of.
Now that's for rolling J's, ayy Laineo !!!
@audursigurkarls the toccata is by far the best no?

May I ask what year it was recored?
Bach wrote a mean walking bass, Glenn's playing just helps to put a finger on that fact. 2:50
Ya dije que, los esenciales se van y, solo quedamos los contingentes.
@str3123
you may want to search your history?
but if i fin it.i will inform you.
