Yes! I have trouble with things being too brittle with air dry clay, but it was also when i was younger and less practical in my clay building. These came out so cute!!
Yes, I only use air dry clay for all my ceramic creations. For brooches I add the pins after the clay is dry so that the clay doesn't go wobbly. There are some really good super glues out there that you can use on air dry clay and you can even paint over them with acrylic so you can give it a nice finish. Main layers I do with acrylic and details with acrylic gouache. I hope this helped
A trick to get clay to not warp: If clay dries too quickly it will warp because certain parts will dry faster than others and pull it into weird shapes. To avoid this, most potters put the clay in a baggy plastic bag to dry more slowly for a day, and then open the bag a bit to get some more air in the next day or two to dry a bit more etc. This gradual method prevents the warping.
Thanks! I hadn't heard of that technique. I read about people putting clay tiles between two bits of drywall which gave me the idea to make a contraption which is basically just two boards the clay pins sit in-between. But if that doesn't work I'll try the bag trick!
monkeymintaka Oh cool! Never tried that. I used to work with ceramic clay and was taught the bag method. Ceramic clay warps really badly if it dries in the open/too quickly.
I love the dark blue colour so much, it's sooo pretty. I have the same mod podge :D When I saw you use your acryla gouache I was surprised, I assumed you would varnish them after and that's almost always glossy. I had no idea you can get a matte mod podge :O That's pretty interesting! I think these turned out so cute!
FUN FACT. if you traced the lines with pencil or any graphite or charcoal, and put it on polymer or air dry clay rub it onto it. let it bake and or dry IT STAYS ON. thats what i do for ny buisness

I have never used resin, but I've seen a few people do it recently and it looks really nice! I'm sure it would help keep it solid, but I've had my pins since I made this video and they seem good still. No cracking or anything!
Hi 😁 I used tracing paper to trace from the sketchbook. Then turned the tracing paper over and scribbled on the back (to get some lead on the back of the paper). Then flipped the paper over again and drew over the lines onto the clay. So the pressure of the pencils pushes the lead on the back of the paper onto the clay pins. I hope that makes sense 🙈 It's a pretty old school method I learnt in school when I was a kid.

Yes, I've only used air dry clay. I bought tons of polymer clay just never used it.

I made some with maizena flour 🤪 pretty cheap than air dry clay. Also unbreakable 😲.

I use resin on mine (modpodge and I don't get on!), and I think it really does make them more durable, essentially if they are fairly thin.
