There’s causing an accident and avoiding an accident.
If you pull out like that at a give way you’ve caused the accident.
If you slow down or increase awareness at a higher risk area like that you could avoid the accident.

@@bustestlucloc4630 I don’t think the approaching car did anything wrong either. It’s clearly the car pulling out that caused the crash. The approaching car could have done better though by reducing their speed; just because the limit is 30 and you’re allowed to go through there at 30 doesn’t mean it’s the best choice.
The answer to your question would be “as slow as required to avoid a collision”, unfortunately stupid driver’s moves can be difficult to anticipate…

@@v52gc The problem with going overly slow is that other drivers see it as an invitation to pull out, which can be every bit as dangerous. Some 'coming togethers' are pretty much impossibly to avoid, as I think was demonstrated here.

@@raymondpenn1066 Exactly. I have always lived by the rule "Priority is given, not taken". Ever since that new guidance was introduced in the Highway Code, I've heard of a lot of pedestrians just walking out into roads because they "have right of way" which is just ridiculous. Even on a zebra crossing you don't HAVE to stop for people who are waiting to cross. The book uses the "should" terminology even then.

7:15 I don't think most people understand about commercial drivers and legally required breaks, to them it's no problem to drive 20 feet to help someone out, but to a driver on a tacho I understand it could be a world of trouble unless it's an emergency situation. Looking at the amount of cars on the pavement and in the next bus bay too theres a shortage of parking for cars here so it must be a constand PITA for the bus and coach drivers. The bus driver was obviously already annoyed, he could have been calmer in explaining, but it is what it is, they shouldn't have parked there, 'other people are doing it' doesn't make it ok!

The Highway Code States, “You SHOULD (NOT MUST) give way to pedestrians waiting to cross when entering or exiting a junction.” You should weigh up every situation on its own merit. Also, “You should NEVER wave anyone to cross the road, as you could be WAVING them into DANGER.” In these scenario, I would not have stopped as the pedestrian was not aware of his surroundings.

You are simply using the fact that it isn't backed by specific regulation as an excuse to dismiss the rule because you don't like it.

#9 You are not meant to wave anyone across. Since that pedestrian is not actually at the junction (which is where they would have priority, I'm pretty sure they don't have priority at any point in the road) you shouldn't stop to let them go as it could confuse other road users. By your logic, you'd stop any time you see a pedestrian at the side of a road and that's incredibly dangerous.
Considering you were indicating (left I assume?), especially as it sounds like you started indicating after stopping to let them go, reasonably before the junction the other car would have probably assumed you were stopping / pulling up at the side of the road.

@@MrBioTom1 I just want to be clear here; you said "The pedestrian is not actually at the junction". That's what I'm asking about, where the pedestrian would need to be to be considered "at the junction"; I'm not right now concerned with exactly where the car should stop if the person was at the junction and so had priority, happy to go with whatever you think on that point.
So; Are you claiming that a pedestrian that wanted to cross where this person did should instead have been all the way back at where the white line joins the road on the right side... that is, in a place where it would definitely look (from the cams POV) like they were trying to cross to the far side of the road, rather than the right to left they're trying to do? Because the new rules (which I'm assuming is what you're talking about when you're saying the pedestrian wasn't at the junction) also tell pedestrians they should "cross at a place where drivers can see you", and I daresay looking like you're about to walk in a completely different direction would put them in breach of that.
Basically; where would you, as a pedestrian, cross that road that would satisfy both the need to cross at the junction, and the need to be visible to drivers as about to cross that way? Or is there no place they could do that... in which case, may I suggest your interpretation of the "pedestrians have priority when crossing at junctions" rules may not be quite right?

You could have parked where the other buses are in front of you, or at the back of the lot where every other coach seems to park, but instead you chose to block this car in for what? To prove some moral high ground? Seeing as there's no signage to specify those are bus spots, that car hasn't even broken the car park terms nevermind anything illegal, but blocking their access to the highway like you did is actually illegal.
