Kinda sad that a movie that came out 40 years ago is still better than 99% of the trash that comes out of Hollywood since.

Well, you are comparing one of the greatest action movies ever made to everything else. No wonder it’s better than most of them.
Most of the movies that were made 40 years ago, or earlier, are nowhere as good as “Aliens” is.

Ridley Scott said with Alien that he didn't mean to transmit any message with the movie at all. I think that's what's missing from current movies, the "no message", the "this is a fiction aside from any agenda and that's it"

Even considering time constraints, the Sentry Gun scenes add so little time but are simply an incredible addition to the film. It adds so much tension, showing how relentless the Aliens are, how cunning they are to retreat and look for a new avenue, it showcases some of the really cool firepower Hudson was bragging about, etc. It also wipes out dozens of Aliens, helping to explain why we see so relatively few later on. This short set of scenes adds so much richness to the film that the film really suffers without it. It explains why the Aliens chose to move thru the ceilings. And otherwise how would Ripley just waltz in to the queen's den? It makes more sense knowing 100 Aliens were mowed down by the Sentry guns.

One thing you have to say about the Xenos, it's impressive how much ammo is costs to hold the horde back when they are on the offensive advance. If they have numbers, you just burn through ammo at a full rate until they retreat, which takes a lot for them to do so, or they get to you. Hate them or not, you will respect them. Its crazy to think that was 2k rounds of high powered ammo ripping through those things. Meaning one round probably ripped througb several at a time. And it was not stopping them at all! ::YIKES:: mustve been 5k-10k aliens in that hallway alone. Brilliant scene by mr camron, effective way to display the aliens relentless power but keeping it grounded/relatable for the viewer.

If you go back to the start of the film in the court martial scene, they say there are 60 0r 70 families on the planet now. Given that the average family consists of 4 or 5 members at most, then that means there would be a maximum of about 350 hosts for the Aliens to impregnate, the marines must have wiped out 2 or 3 times that many. Just a thought...

What Ripley did was still awesome though. To do that, knowing and witnessing what they could do to you (From Dallas being morphed to that poor woman), that was an act of extreme valor.

Save me from civilians that have never been around REAL weapons. Most of the current generation automatic weapons you are looking at a barrel change after 3-500 rounds. The MG-3 its 300, the M249 i`ve never seen one get off more than 400 rounds before the barrel started being an issue, the FN Minimi again about 400 and you are thinking barrel change. 500 is about right for an automatic weapon thats stuck with one barrel.
