Chris Dutton Dear Chris, would you share any tips on how to grow the fruits? My parents have 4-5 year old plant. Mine is fairly new. I wanted to know if only some specific kind of monstera deliciosa gives fruit or if indoor or outdoor care matters. I would really appreciate it if you can share some of your experiences. I have an emotional bond with the kind since we had a plant when I was very young.

Great intro to a fruit we love in South Florida. We have a 10 year old plant growing against an oak tree that will give us enough fruit to make awesome "banana" bread. I will have 4-5 ripening on the counter at once. Note: can't be used in a smoothie due to the prickly fibers.

In the summer It will do. Especially in late spring summer,as long you keep It protected from freeze and icywinds. You may need a very very very good soil and protect It in the winter indoors. Always giving the most half-shade light as you can. It may take a while to actually give you something but a covered ground in woodchips and a biodiversed soil with alot of minerals and nutrients can do miracles for your plants. Good luck ! Give moist good soil enviroment, use gloves when dealing with their roots, ok? Have fun and one day she may give you a present. Permaculture is always the best !

The best of the variegated Monstera is called "Thai Constellation". It is coming out of Thailand as tissue cultured plantlets and very expensive but within a few years the price will go down and availability be greater. Not sure how the variegated types might fruit. It takes a while to mature, stem diameter needs to be about 1 inch/2-3 cm.

Not to my knowledge. That’s weird. You’ve looked for them regularly?

Would have helped to have a bit more explanation. Like, WHY does it make your mouth feel like you ate fiberglass, if it's not ripe enough? And does it ripen sequentially along the fruit? In other words, if you start eating it can the rest sit and ripen, or do you throw it away? I lived in Hawaii for years and only ever encountered one monstera fruit. I think it was probably only half ripe, it tasted like pineapple and cherimoya but left my mouth irritated like eating a very acid pineapple. Plant this for the foliage and don't expect much fruit IMO.

It’s the freeze dried stuff that’s expensive, it’s quite the process and locks up most of the nutrients.

They really are tasty but, its annoying that you can only eat a small amount at a time.
