Jacob: Thank you for your insightful, well-informed, and entertaining review of Pasulka's American Cosmic with attitude. I really enjoyed it and feel like there is a lot of room still left for this topic and other similar themes/executions. Well done, just really entertaining content. I was also amazed when you said a book written by a UNC professor and then you said Wilmington. It is almost always Chapel Hill that gets all the focus in media, academics, and the world at large, but my home state has a world class University system. It's great to see interesting work from someone outside of Chapel Hill's proverbial Ivory Tower. Keep up the amazing work like this and the afterlife video!
Began watching when you mainly talked about video games because I enjoyed how thorough and well-read your analyses were even though I don't play video games that much. I've been hugely enjoying the videos you've been making recently since they are something I keep up with, esoteric and fringe topics, and especially because you cover books on my to read list that I hadn't been able to get around to.
The thing about any kind of paranormal photography or videography that makes it so hard for me to believe is that I have never seen a single ghost, alien, cryptid, etc picture/video that isn't grainy as fuck or mostly pixels. The odd time that there is a good quality picture/video just makes me pick it apart until I discover how it was faked and even then I still don't believe it even if I want to.

Great video! I am a tourist to this topic, and the way you explained it kept me from getting lost at any point while remaining informative and entertaining.
Cool that you have started to make informational videos about things you find interesting. Rest work for the rest of us who are curious. So I can spend learning more about plants or whatever my next passion after plants will be.
That pulling knowledge out of the 'void' part reminded me of the interesting phenomena that happened multiple times throughout the history of mathematics, physics and other sciences, which is when multiple people in their respected fields made the same discovery or worked out the same thing roughly the same time without having any contact what so ever. Of course it could be with many logical reasons, but it surely is interesting how our collective knowledge build itself naturally.
I think that whatever the broader "ufo/alien" phenomena is, it's most definitely not extraterrestrials. I think if it does exist, it has to be either paranormal or some sort of bizarre government PsyOp. Stuff like "Passport to Magonia" or the "Mirage Men" documentary can lead you down a serious rabbithole.
This content pivot has been excellent... I'll ProbablyKeepwatching. An another interesting example of Fiction corrupting the historical record is the story of the 'Mary Celeste', a ship that 'disappeared' which was actually happened... but the author of Sherlock Holmes, AC Doyle, later wrote a Fiction story about it - which still to this day corrupts the historical record about the ship.
Man you make great content. It's nice to see you doing new topics, you do have interesting views and the way you present them in your videos is really cool. Hope you getting this going together with the video game reviews, also waiting for the next Inherently Optimistic episode. Cheers!
Tyler D is Travis Tayler James is Garry (2’r’s) Nolan. Encounters is her next book that came out in November of 2023 so far after this video. Fun to go back and review the video for our past mistakes
I'm tempted to make fun of you pronouncing Tsiolkovsky as Tchaikovsky, but that's kind of understandable xD Fun topic! It really is interesting how people turn belief systems into religion-like structures (religions, really, but some people are defensive about encroaching on that label).
Excellent review of Dr. Pasulka's book. And thank you for taking the time to do such an important book review. It's a must read! Around 14:53 you mentioned Dr. Gary Nolan is "definitely a believer." Although I agree with you, I find his take on the phenomenon much more complex and nuanced. If you haven't already, I recommend to everyone who is interested in this topic to check out Dr. Nolan's interview with Ross Coulthart available here on TH-cam. Fascinating! Anyways, keep up the good work, sir :)
I've looked into Nolan MUCH more in depth since this video and to be he isn't very nuanced at all. He is a true believer and has been fully recruited into the elitist UFO cult Pasulka discusses much more in her new book. Pasulka herself has also been fairly well recruited. I don't trust Coulthart
After studying this phenomenon in earnest since I was a teenager (I am 61 now), I have reluctantly come to the conclusion that no matter how much we try to unravel the mystery, it will always elude because we are dealing with an intelligence that far outstrips our own. It may be the equivalent of a dog trying to figure out how a flat screen TV works. If people like Jacques Vallee can't put their finger on it, what hope do we have? To say it is humbling is an understatement.
On thing stands out. That there is something "stirring" in the ether. Something outside the physical world, the supernatural. This is one reason why our material science cannot explain these UFOs.
I think if you're going to do videos like these and keep them more casual, I would recommend that you cut down on the length of the transitions, cut down on the dead air between jump cuts, and have some kind of theme-relevant backing track throughout it. The track makes a viewer feel at ease and you can mute it when you want to deliver an important part.
I like the video man! Interesting topic, I've never really seen this stuff as a 'religion' per se but it raises some interesting points. I'm not sure if I would consider it being a complete religion as dangerous or not from a progress stand point because belief has led to some major mistakes historically, but putting technology as a high priority is usually a good thing in my eyes... I understand belief without evidence (even if it's of the 'as of yet' variety) but I also think believing in science without any proof could set us back, I guess? It really depends on if, how, and when any of this stuff could be relatively proven, but that's just how I look at it.
I liked the fake documentary you mentioned in passing The Great Martian War 1913-1917. The CG is a bit old but it holds up really well with the testimony.
What's the song in the beginning of the chapters? I though maybe Earthbound but I couldn't find it. Great video. Also really liked your afterlife one :)
I'm fascinated by the UFO/UAP phenomenon and religions. I'm also highly interested in how reality is created in the human mind. The easiest way to create any reality in the human mind is to start with a lie or assertion and repeat it until you have believers. You can then add an emotional connection and those believers will know the lie or assertion to be true and real this also creates Cognitivedissonance (protection from actual truth and actual facts). Add a sense of urgency and you will get action from those believers. Trump is an excellent example for this method. In fact all you have to do is listen to him talk at any given day and see his followers react in real time. It is my belief based on this evidence that all religions, cults, and false conspiracy theories got started this way.
The whole angle of "old religion crazy and unscientific" is largely based on an understanding of Christianity alone. Islam had a strong angle of scientific endeavour at the same "olden times", as did varied religions such as Hinduism and Daoism at the time. Similarly, your angle of an "informational universe" springs to mind ideas I've read in Jung as well as traditions of stora and other such angles which tended to coalesce in the "New Age" movement towards Blavatskian perversions such as "The Akashic Records" and such.
Its TH-cam its a high possibility, and most likely since Im subscribe and have the notification bell ringed. and assuming you also are subscribed and ringed that bell, his videos probably get suppressed due to whatever reason the cursed janky-algorithm is half-ass designed to due.
Highlights from the congressional hearing on UFOs the other day 1. Pilots didn't really have new information 2. Grusch was a LOT more conservative in his claims 3. Despite being more conservative grusch still maintains that the U.S. government has non human craft and non human biologic material from the craft, which is pretty interesting. 4. There is almost absolutely going to be a classified version of this briefing where grusch gives specific information about locations of these materials and names involved. 5. None of this means anything without people involved with these alleged programs/materials taking advantage of previously passed UAP whistle-blower protections and going public. As always with UFOs, believe none of what you hear and half of what you see. There is a deeply embedded elite level UFO cult made up of Academics, high level scientists, government contractors, intelligence agency guys, and politicians. They do a very good job of manipulating the reality around them to reflect their beliefs, so its difficult to tell who is lying and who isn't. For more information on that, read "American cosmic" by Diane walsh pasulka also, disinformation campaigns around this topic have been going on for decade, for more information on that read "mirage men" by Mark Pilkington or watch the documentary version
have you read violence and the sacred by Rene Girard or the emperor's new mind by Penrose? love to hear you waffle about mimetic identity and/or computer 'skynet' apocalypse. Oh and Giles Deleuze's elimination of dualism by creating the virtual😶🌫
Hopefully you do a breakdown of chris bledsoe book ufo of god. He is interesting because of how many insanely high credentialed people believe him and work with him. Diana pasulka even talks about chris bledsoe.
Chris is a very interesting and complex case that details a lot of good and bad shit about the UFO community and the Intelligence community/government contractor UFO cult I would definitely need to do more than just read that book if i was going to do a video on his situation
@@ProbablyJacob now I am even more interested in what you would have to say. I don't know how I feel about his story but the fact that so many "higher ups" believe and support him, has to mean something. Plus the lady that he details is beyond fascinating, she is essentially either a Mary like goddess or Egyptian goddess and apparently him speaking about her is why the "higher ups" believe his story which makes it all even more interesting.
@@JokerJay1990 Long story short, i think his original experience is definitely real. I also think he has been heavily manipulated by the intelligence/government contractor UFO cult community
"mystery religions were in vogue" They always have been. secret knowledge is a trap as old as time. The very first temptation in the garden was offering secret knowledge. The Gnostics fell for it. Christianity is the opposite of secret, since Jesus commanded the apostles to preach to the whole world.
Well, great job! I enjoyed your review, I am a little disappointed to hear you're somewhat sarcastic remarks in regards to Dr. Pasulka s style of humor saying "Everyone knows his name except you". And about Bob Bigelow being kinda crazy or something. He and many people that seem crazy in this regard have had experiences that would make anyone question reality. As far as Dr. Noland going for the "nuts and bolts " approach, it is to stay away from this type of interpretation. But like I said great job, I enjoyed the show. Thanks I'm sure I will watch many more.
Jung had a book about this. Anyway, I think when a religion is formed and it's in a minority disdained by the majority, there are no problems, and usually the surrounding conservative society makes the problems around them. But when a religion is institutionalized, then the problems appear. I had to deal with several religions in some way, my opinion is, that religions are institutions constructed by an elite to control the masses of people so far where politics can't reach. In their homes, their personal beliefs, sexual behaviors, how people view life and the world. It's a big misplaced power. I think it would be ideal if each person had a personal faith built on their personal experience, and they learned to respect other peoples beliefs even it's not matching or not the same. And I don't think we need (centralized) institutions in order to provide faith. I'm quite into ufo things, I don't see it as a "techno religion" but more a "conciousness" religion. Meditation, personal growth, mindfulness and scepticism against goverment and big institutions - typical among ufo "believers" - are basicly all useful things, for the person and for the envireonment (ufo people often say that aliens warned them against the use of nuclear weapons, warned them about ecological disaster, misuse of technology, etc.) Okay there are people who are delusional and some that are fanatic, but there is no belief-system where you don't have people behaving like that. Not only religions, but ideologies as well, people believe in them just like in religions. Because, as you said, humans somehow need a belief system. I'm very curious what will come out of this, and I really hope that it won't be like an old fashioned religion with priests and an organization and that it won't restrict people's freedom. We will see... the world is changing very quickly, and I'm not sure that the current political-economic (and religous) world will survive our lifetimes. Let's hope that after braking down the old there will be something new and better for the people in general
interesting points but i struggle with the idea of calling ufology a religion given that there's 0 interest in ultimate powers and creation. If there's no creation myth/story, i have a hard time calling that a religion. Also no aliens? alien abductions and alien encounters are probably THE most interesting aspect of the whole thing.
@@ProbablyJacob origins of humanity or the world is not the same as a cosmogony. The origins of existence, what was the first thing etc. Science has a way of explaining things that cuts out the symbology of it all, which destroys its religious function. If ufology aligns itself with the recognized and agreed upon meta narrative of the cosmogony, then it's not a religious view. Where's the metaphysics of aliens if aliens ARE the angels and gods.
Great video, keep up good work! And my 2 cents on sub - your point about how human "predisposed" or bound to be religious or just believe in something suspiciously looking like iron age jewish folklore hero is actually fals, sorry. There is absolutely no scientific proves, or just serious research on than and statements like that is just cosmopolitan-level pseudoscience. This lady wrote her book precisely to push this false narrative about how we all inherently "created" to believe in yahweh, but some ppl just can't accept jesus and wander to different false gods - like aliens, alcohol, scientology, trumpism, sects, facebook etc. There is tens of this kind of books like your read but instead of aliens they about things i mentioned. We don't need any superstitious entities - scientific method is more than enough to solve all our problems
I would encourage you to look up the actual science and sociology behind the claim that humans evolved to be psychologically primed for religion. There is a good World Science Festival talk called "The Believing Brain: Evolution, Neuroscience, and the Spiritual Instinct" that goes over this. It is not "cosmopolitan-level pseudoscience" and its not an idea that is even remotely unique to this book. This is highly documented academically. There are many different interpretations that range from "we are biased towards religiosity" all the way to "we need religiosity to stay sane" both have very good arguments from high level academics and philosophers.
@@ProbablyJacob Thanks man, i was grossly uneducated on the topic 😂😂😂 Video you suggested is great - watched it 2 times, looks like the question is not are we predisposed to some religiosity - but rather why we are. "Group adaptation" is one explanation - looking like quiet week to me. And second one - by Pinker is that religiosity is a side effect of different sets of adaptations. Not sure about scope of studies particularly on this sub, but i dig-up some on toddlers - results are quite telling
why are UFO's always a simple shape? You'd think a creature capable traveling outside of the bounds of space time - and not limited by physics the way we are - would have a more creative form.
there are numerous very different shapes of ufos reported and or recorded. tictac, triangle, egg, ball in a cube etc. and some where catched the time they changed shape. as far as i know, the classic saucer shape comes from it's mechanics. the idea is that the two sides rotate the opposite way and it makes somehow an electromagnetic field that creates a gravitational "bubble" around the object that can "move" in space, in time, and through various dimensions.
Agree with @yakovleitner. Also, consider that the examples we've seen may be purely utilitarian designs. When you need to crank out interstellar probes by the thousands, you're probably going to use a simple shape that's easy to manufacture. Maybe we just haven't seen the cosmic cruise liners yet.

Hopefully you do a breakdown of chris bledsoe book ufo of god. He is interesting because of how many insanely high credentialed people believe him and work with him. Diana pasulka even talks about chris bledsoe.
Chris is a very interesting and complex case that details a lot of good and bad shit about the UFO community and the Intelligence community/government contractor UFO cult
I would definitely need to do more than just read that book if i was going to do a video on his situation
Was Christianity secretive because of persecution, or because it was by nature a mystery religion in a time when mystery religions were in vogue??
"mystery religions were in vogue" They always have been. secret knowledge is a trap as old as time. The very first temptation in the garden was offering secret knowledge. The Gnostics fell for it. Christianity is the opposite of secret, since Jesus commanded the apostles to preach to the whole world.
Hey great video! Thank you very much!
Too bad the writer of the book treated you like that on twitter, not cool.
So who is Tyler Durden?
She american on my cosmic 'til I technology
Scooobie dooobie doooo
A NASA scientist had a two-way wheel patented, taking the specifications from The Book Of Ezekiel. The measurements are there.
She has access to the Vatican archives?
She can get access, yes. At least to the part of the archive they allow academics to study.

I find your pronunciation of "ephemeral" to be quite disturbing.
interesting points but i struggle with the idea of calling ufology a religion given that there's 0 interest in ultimate powers and creation. If there's no creation myth/story, i have a hard time calling that a religion. Also no aliens? alien abductions and alien encounters are probably THE most interesting aspect of the whole thing.
I would consider ancient aliens theories and Kenneth arnold/Roswell to be the creation myths
@@ProbablyJacob Thanks man, i was grossly uneducated on the topic 😂😂😂
Video you suggested is great - watched it 2 times, looks like the question is not are we predisposed to some religiosity - but rather why we are. "Group adaptation" is one explanation - looking like quiet week to me. And second one - by Pinker is that religiosity is a side effect of different sets of adaptations. Not sure about scope of studies particularly on this sub, but i dig-up some on toddlers - results are quite telling
The scientific method = Your one true god. 😂
Science is done by fallable humans be careful to not become a slave to the men in the white coats.
Ayyyyyy LMAO
why are UFO's always a simple shape?
What is someone with ProbablyJacob credentials doing putting out videos like this?
yeah how dare he make videos about a topic he loves and has been engaged in for decades now
"Credentials"
Bro I'm a 30 year old with an associates degree that looks like a guy who sells LSD, its a miracle it took me this long to make this video
