    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    The expected moment has come. In this video I'll make a hydraulic vice. An old vice was broken. This occurrence has given me a lot of motivation to doing new one.
    I decided that I'll make it so huge and solid as it possible.
    Connection of thick materials and a powerful hydraulic cylinder has given me a very robust and concrete construction.
    I hope it'll serve me for a long time.

    A few things:
    1. The vice weighs totals 32 KG/70lbs.
    2. It is not for sale.
    3. Unfortunately, I also do not have time for individual orders :)

    Respect!.....for anybody ripping on this guy, lets see what you built out of your own head....yeah his welds may not be all pretty but he melted it all together better than it'll ever need.....plus people its his and he can fix any weld failures obviously if ever needed. I dont comment much but this guy is well and above most utube builds like this..with really basic tools even...his kids will be using this long after he's gone and their kids......its a legacy item for sure. My hats off to you sir!!!!! We used to make stuff like this in the USA,... you'd have a need and make what you needed, over made it, used it and passed it down to the next generation. I personally love old handmade tools and buy them and also make them whenever I can...Now quit your petty critiques and enjoy the pure geneous this guy just gave you and one up him, if you can. I shall step off my soap box now.

    Should be really great with an electric power-pump and a "clamp-down" or "brute-force" selector switch.
    "Clamp-down" position should use a ajustable bypass pressure valve to limit the pressure when you just want to hold on pieces in the vice. a simple valve can able or dissable this bypass chanel.
    When "brute-force" is selected, the valve si closed and the bypass pressure valve inhibed.
    Simply as hell and really fonctionnal.
    Best regards and congratulation for this work !

    Hi from New Zealand.I am a retired mechanical engineering manager with 25 years hands on practical experience behind me. Amongst many other projects in our maintenance workshop I have used many hundreds of kgs of mig wire with my own hands and my team have used thousands building log handling equipment and conveyors etc etc etc. I know what I am talking about.You have a great idea and I congratulate you on the finished project. I have 2 suggestions. 1st is to make deeper weld preparation especially if you are going to grind the weld to look nice. For example the triangle pieces that you made and fitted very nicely. looked to only have prep about 5mm. It should be full depth of material. various other bits needed deeper prep also. Something like a vice needs a safety factor of about 4 to 6x the expected stresses on it. Its reasonably easy to work it out as most of the steel you were using liiked like 20 to 25 ton psi mild steel.Second suggestion is that in most situations the fixed jaw of the vice should be over the edge of the bench and jice jaws should be wide enough to clamp onto a vertical pipe or shaft or bar so you canhold it firmly.Possibly mounting feet and bolts may be a little light but only time will tell. Vices get a ridiulously hard life so only time will tell. I am shure you are the type of guy who who is a problem solver.Much respect to your idea I give it 9.5 out of ten. By the way I only comment on utube about 3 times a year when I see something that is really worthy. utube is full of people who can strike an arc and are just learning welding then they make a video trying to teach others how to weld. Thats like dong a 9 hole golf course and showing how easy it is to play professional golf!!!!!Btw I learned to weld with stick in all positions, plus branched into specialty weling like large broken cast Iron bearing housings that took all my time I could muster for 3 days plus boult a 23 ft alloy catamarant for fishing from sheets of plate I cut with various tools and welded together with a spoolmatic gun. fun times! I caught marlin tuna plus lots of eating fish in that boat till poor health made me give it to my son. congratulations again.

      All the manager I've ever met who have to explain how much (hands on experience) they have done, have done bugger all. Get your point though, if it was me I would of prepped most of those plate. Especially the weld directly under the two jaws.. but who are we too judge, this project is clever.

    • @chimichongamilk
      @chimichongamilk 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have to agree with dennis. The weld prep could go a lot farther if you create a heavy bevel on that (what looks like ) 1/2" plate. It doesn't look like you have any problems with your welds breaking based off your tests, but to really create that cohesive metal structure you're looking to create with that weld, you'd really wanna create a deeper penetration to stand the repeated abuse that vise is sure to get over the years. I love this idea and I'm definitely looking to make one or two for my shop. Thank you for the excellent tutorial!

    this is a great idea. because one of the most problematic things with a standard vice is you have to hold the work piece with one hand and close the vice with the other. and if the work piece is heave, that can sometimes be difficult if your by yourself.

    Maybe good idea to add a pressure gauge into the System, so you know your not going above the rated working pressure. Great work though, 👍

    Excellent build. Thank you for sharing. The only additions would allow it to swivel and to use a small electric hydraulic pump to close the jaws. One that moves a convertible top as an example. Even without the changes I would be proud to have your tool mounted on my workbench.

Себестоимость таких тисков на март 2021 около 12000 рублей - а теперь идите на авито и посмотрите сколько действительно хорошие тиски стоят времён СССР, только бы не Китай!?

    I think you need a heavier workbench to be able to really work with this vise :D
    You can check mine if you like :).
    Having a hydraulic vise seems useful since you don't have that lever on the front which is always annoying.

  • @johnm9548

    I think you and the guy from Power Ball Tool need to get together for a vise off. Ha!

    • @xenonram
      @xenonram 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Or how about a collaboration. Jason from Fireball is more into precision machining and this kid is into innovation. Maybe they could come up with something more precise and robust than this guy's design, but more innovative than Fireball's design. Ok Fireball's vise, he throat is so large and the thread pitch of the screw is so fine, it could do with a hydraulic setup.
