Hi Andy! Will you ever cover the Philippines’s languages, considering the multiple ethnic groups and islands? I know these are made because of submissions, but I hope one day Arta and the other first peoples’ languages will be featured. I would also really like to know the differences between dialects, like the Leyteño dialect of Binisaya compared to the Sugbu dialect of Binisaya!

Cambodian number orders are pretty easy just learn 1 to 5 then you know all the 1-10 numbers like number 2 is pi and 5 is pram so if you want 7 just add 5 and 2 together like pram pi (same with 10-19)

Thai and Lao numerals except 1 and 0 (1 is Native Kra-Dai number, and 0 comes from Sanskrit), 2-10 are replaced by Chinese numbers. I have few questions for Thai speakers and Lao speakers.
    1. Do you still use Native Kra-Dai numbers 2-10?
    2. In what situation you guys use native numbers?
    3. Is Native number commonly used in Daily life?

    • @nokaton
      @nokaton ปีที่แล้ว +5

Thai and Lao are form the Proto-South-Western Tai language. The native numerals 2-10 have been lost long before the origin of all South-Western Tai branch. However, some large number still survives e.g. 100. Some large numbers like 100,000 and 1,000,000 have an uncertain origin (neither form Middle Chinese nor Proto-Tai).

      I'm thai native speaker.
First, most thais do not know about tai-kradai numbers.
There is no use anymore in the present time except in the past. For example, the order of children like ยี่ (yii) = second son, ไส (sai) = fourth son. อี่ ( ii) = second daughter.

Since you also brought Nôm characters in Vietnamese, we also have Sino-Vietnamese numbers:
    1 - Nhất
    2 - Nhì, nhị
    3 - Tam
    4 - Tư, tứ
    5 - Ngũ
    6 - Lục
    7 - Thất
    8 - Bát
    9 - Cửu
    10 - Thập
As you can see (and hear), those sound similar to Mandarin or Cantonese because our language is also part of the sinosphere
