While this piece was used in The Last of the Mohicans it was actually composed by Scottish musician Dougie Maclean. You have to watch all the end credits to see his name mentioned.
It was not written by Dougie Maclean.
This is not "the Gael", it is La Folía or Follia. It is one of the oldest European musical themes on record. It is many hundreds of years old and many hundreds of composers (eg, & randomly chosen ... Vivaldi, Corelli, Handel, Bach, Liszt, Beethoven etc, etc), over the centuries, have used it in their music. It has its own website (which I can't find at the moment) and is here on Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folia. Dougie MacLean used it and called it "The Gael". Somehow he claimed, or allowed it to be claimed, that he composed it. He did not.
