When they were going down that steep hill past the Wells Fargo building, I cringed, thinking about how dangerous it would be for those players whose instruments were so big they have to wear them (sousaphones, bass drummers, quad drummers, baritone saxes, etc.). They're all so top-heavy and have to descend the gradient with extreme caution or else they'd go tumbling down! The bass drummers, in particular, have a huge frontal blind spot! But they all not only pulled it off without missing a beat (literally!) but kept their lines dressed, their choreography in sync and their sound steady....all while maintaining their utter joy at giving it 150% for the crowds! To call them a class act would be a gross understatement!!
Notice the Sousaphones are white? They're made of fiberglass, and are about 20 pounds each. Not really heavy. I'd bet the euphoniums and the quads are the heaviest instruments there. ..Joe
I only discovered this band about 1 month ago, and quite by accident. Ever since then, I have become a big fan. They are just amazing. Their energy, and sheer dedication to their music is outstanding. Probably one of the best brass bands I have ever seen and heard.
I will go as far to say they've surpassed college bands. I'm not taking back my words, I have eyes,I know perfection when I see it and they are the absolute definition.
Tachibana SHS Marching band was the best band in the 2018 Rose Parade. Not only do I agree strongly with Frank Quitely, but have to take it a step further. Not only do I feel sorry with the high school and/or college marching band behind them, but all the other bands who were also in front of them as well, to include the USMC Marching band. They my be high school students predominantly comprised of all female students with a handful of male students but all other bands were outclassed that day. Not that it was a competition but as I heard the girls came to win! Not only did they do all this gracefully, but the girls and boys were truly enjoying their selves with genuine smiles on their faces. Absolute perfection. Simply the best of the best.
Yes, and on top of that, they attend class, do homework, take exams just like any other student. As a result, they have to come to school at seven, as soon as the gates open, to practice an hour before classes start at eight. After three in the afternoon, they practice until the school gate closes at seven in the evening. And as you say, they practice all weekends. It’s not that the school or coach is forcing them, but the band is self-governed by students. They decided to do that, and they did that for decades, because they know that they don’t have much time. This is all for the love of music, marching, dancing, entertaining the crowd and have fun. After all, for most of them, this will be the highlight of their youth, with a period of just three years struggling to improve and be able to wear the famous orange uniform. Then, they will graduate, go to college, blend into the normal life in Japan, and will never appear in front of the camera, maybe except a handful of those who become professional musicians. I heard that the school thought this was too much, and have recently, from around 2019, made them reduce the burden. With the new Music Director and Coach, their performances are less physically demanding than when this video was taken in 2018. Because of that, some people say their performance has been watered-down. Since dancing is not in the marking criteria in competitions, they now emphasize their musicality and complex formation changes. This helped to bring in more prizes. They now have a more clean sound than in the past by reducing physical movements (less dancing). Which is better, clean sound plus complex formations to win the national competition, or the more energetic dancing of the past, this is often argued among fans. Well as for me, I’m one of those that miss the more energetic dances by previous KT bands.
Loved this song, was too cute. The only negative about this parade were the jerks in the float behind the band constantly hitting their horn for no reason. Simply amazing and it boggles the mind how talented this band is. Love this band.
According to an interview on a fan site (I think it was the Kyoto Tachibana.... Unofficial Fan Blog), one of the color guards interviewed, who was at the very end of the band, said she was aware of the horn, but she wasn't bothered. So, don't worry about the horn, it's almost part of the big cheers they received from the crowd! The KT band members were all amazed by the huge cheers they got from the very enthusiastic crowd (Far bigger than those from spectators in Japan). That year, the KT band did not make it to the national competition. They were disappointed, but the American spectators gave them the big cheers that the KT band deserves. Thank you!
Yes they are a High School Band. There is an unofficial fan website here: kyototachibanashsbandunofficialfanblog.wordpress.com that can answer some questions. For the Green Band some past members return to swell the numbers. Sort of why there are three Band Masters. Lead is the current BM, the other two are last and last but one, the flag colour party are next BM and next but one. Careful, you soon become addicted! They are so good it's not an addiction I'm looking to kick.
And technically an afterschool club to boot; by design their band director is apparently rather hands-off with the marching band, so the students mostly run things themselves.
@@umbrellashotgunman You absolutely correct, it is a club activity, for which they do 40 hrs a week rehearsals and yes the choreography is a student design. The band is made of 3 year students, 1st year 2nd year and lastly 3 rd year. The waiting list to be in this band is huge and also very tough to be a member. But they all give up a lot to be the band 🙏 As you can see the band is primarily female and that dates back to an all girl school. The music choices, dancing and the coordinated scream 😂is all part of their trademark. And don’t forget those natural beautiful smiles😊. The future is bright the future is Orange 🍊
I show this band to a friend that in marching band and she just gawked. These kids are waaay more professional than our marching band that she end up spending hours watching the band in envy n awe 😅
These kids charm me with their music regardless where they play or the type of music! They are so active from start to finish! Their discipline is simply amazing and coordinated. I just enjoy them period.❤ Them!

京都橘吹奏楽部のファンになって一週間程度の初心者です。
皆さんのコメントの中に『オレンジの悪魔と言うより天使だ』と言うコメントをよく見掛けます。
いやいや、寝不足にはさせられるし、眠い目を擦りながら会社に行ってもあの楽曲とあの可愛いステップが頭の中でヘビロテして仕事に集中させてもらえないし、ガッツリ『魂』持っていかれてます。
確かに見た目は天使ですが、これは立派な『悪魔』ですやん。
それにしても、この動画を見つけたオレはエライ！

音が遠くからじわじわと大きくなってくるのにつれて鳥肌たった。
オレンジの悪魔とはよく言ったもので、笑顔で踊りながら楽器演奏して、さらに手を振ったりしてる余裕があるなんて。
赤の他人だけど、可愛い自慢の娘っ子たちのように思います。我が国自慢の娘っ子たちです。この可愛いパフォーマンスは日々の懸命な努力に裏打ちされたものですからね。飛び跳ねながらの演奏、吹奏面での口の耐久力、体全体のスタミナ、どれをとっても吹奏楽経験者から観れば、良い意味のクレイジーですから。
マーチングのどこが好きって、だんだん通り過ぎて言って聞こえる楽器の音が変わっていくところ。
稜線の向こう側から 軽快にステップを踏みながら迫ってくる橘の隊列には鳥肌が立ちますね。
他の方のコメントにもあるように、橘の後方の ブースタークラブのキリンが、まるで橘のキャラクターみたいで 何だかほっこりします。

地元に住んでいた頃はローズパレードは２０数年ほぼ毎年見に行った。橘のマーチングバンドをローズバレードで始めてみた時は、本当に嬉しくなるやら感動するやら日本が誇らしく思えた。頑張れ橘マーチングバンド！！
もう何度見たことか。でも全く飽きないし、見るたびに新発見があったりする。Chippiが人気だけれど、私はドラムのいちばん左端の「お母さん」のような笑顔が大好きです。
登場する時、後ろのキリンも橘のメンバーみたいで可愛いですね！

マーチングバンドって軍楽隊や儀仗兵達の公式な演奏を基本にして生まれている事が多いですから､統一された華麗もしくは重厚な衣装に身を包み荘厳に演奏していく･･というスタイルが多いのですが、橘高校の演奏スタイルはまるで違いますね。オレンジ色の軽快な衣装に身を包み､踊るかのようなステップを踏みつつ楽しそうに演奏している･･しかも彼女達の笑顔を見て自身も楽しんでいる･･と判るからこそ見ている我々も笑顔になり演奏を楽しみ声援を送る。クスッ･･まるでお祭りの『山車』から聞こえる『お囃子』みたいにワクワクしますね？

京都橘高校吹奏楽部の皆さんは、アメリカ滞在中はバンド・フェスト前に全体練習やコロラド・カーブの通過練習、バンド・SHOWの練習をエンゼルス駐車場でしています。それにアメリカの障害者施設を訪問しマーチングSHOWをしたり自愛に満ちた社会貢献活動もしています。これもローズ委員会は知っています。地元TVやラジオ局も取材しています。素晴らしい学校です。
Loved this song, was too cute. The only negative about this parade were the jerks in the float behind the band constantly hitting their horn for no reason. Simply amazing and it boggles the mind how talented this band is. Love this band.
According to an interview on a fan site (I think it was the Kyoto Tachibana.... Unofficial Fan Blog), one of the color guards interviewed, who was at the very end of the band, said she was aware of the horn, but she wasn't bothered. So, don't worry about the horn, it's almost part of the big cheers they received from the crowd!
The KT band members were all amazed by the huge cheers they got from the very enthusiastic crowd (Far bigger than those from spectators in Japan). That year, the KT band did not make it to the national competition. They were disappointed, but the American spectators gave them the big cheers that the KT band deserves. Thank you!

個人的に3:13からのトランペットの彼達の動きが、足先から首をかしげての完璧キュートな動きが大好きです
女子の多い中で、全く違和感を感じさせないダンスに、先輩女子に指導され忠実に一生懸命覚えたのだろうな？と、努力とひたむきさが伝わって来ます

For the Green Band some past members return to swell the numbers. Sort of why there are three Band Masters. Lead is the current BM, the other two are last and last but one, the flag colour party are next BM and next but one. Careful, you soon become addicted!
They are so good it's not an addiction I'm looking to kick.
yangster lively Disipline is the answer when they practice and with a touch of Happiness. That is why they have that cheerful smile with them.
And technically an afterschool club to boot; by design their band director is apparently rather hands-off with the marching band, so the students mostly run things themselves.

You absolutely correct, it is a club activity, for which they do 40 hrs a week rehearsals and yes the choreography is a student design. The band is made of 3 year students, 1st year 2nd year and lastly 3 rd year.
The waiting list to be in this band is huge and also very tough to be a member. But they all give up a lot to be the band 🙏 As you can see the band is primarily female and that dates back to an all girl school. The music choices, dancing and the coordinated scream 😂is all part of their trademark. And don’t forget those natural beautiful smiles😊.

I show this band to a friend that in marching band and she just gawked. These kids are waaay more professional than our marching band that she end up spending hours watching the band in envy n awe 😅

今回初めて台湾の建国記念日 国慶節に京都橘高校吹奏楽部が招待されて、ローズパレード参加だけで無く、台湾🇹🇼に、オレンジの悪魔旋風が起きています。
またひとつ、偉業を成し遂げて、歴史に名を残しましたね。
「シング」も良いけど今年はこの「Fire Ball」がたまらん。ボントロの数が多いからイントロは前から見てると圧巻だね。
これぞ橘って感じの躍動感が大好きです。
遠くからでも伝わる圧倒的存在感+躍動感+高揚感‼️何もかも美しいチームワーク‼️京都橘のスターの皆様はamazing‼️日本の誇りです👍👍👍

These kids charm me with their music regardless where they play or the type of music! They are so active from start to finish! Their discipline is simply amazing and coordinated. I just enjoy them period.❤ Them!

感動した・・・すごい！(Crazy )毎晩（every night)、これを鑑賞(watch)してから就寝(sleep)になります。もう４カ月(four months)、毎日のルーティーン(routine）になっています。全然飽きません(not get bored)・・・何故でしょう(why)？ 元気(give energy)と幸せ(happiness)と感動(excitement)を頂き、きっと取りつかれている(be fascinated by)んでしょうね。彼女たちが心の底(from the bottom of their hearts)から楽しん(enjoy)で演奏(performance)したり、踊ったり(dancing)しているのが伝わって(convey)くるんです。たぶん、パフォーマー(performer)としての心構え(mindset)がうまく(well)教えられている(made)んでしょうね！そして、厳しい(strict)体幹トレーニング(core exercises)と厳しい演奏指導((performance)を自分たちの意思(actively from themselves)でやっているんでしょうね！ 時(sometimes)には徹夜(all night)して楽しん(enjoy)でいます。橘は、今では(now)私のヒーロー(my hero)になってきました(becoming)・・・ところで、このパフォーマンスの演出(director)は誰(who)がやっているんでしょうね？

陸海空自衛隊観閲式の行進時、わが海上自衛隊は軍艦マーチの音が前の方と後ろの方で音の伝わり方が違うので足並みが全然揃わなかったのに、京都橘はピッタリですね。素晴らしい。
男の子もいるので彼女たちとは言いませんが本当に素晴らしい。
