    I agree. I know a lot of people said it was queerbaiting buts it’s not. I’ve seen queerbaiting in media too many times, even before I knew I was pan. People say they want representation but when they get it, it’s queer-baiting. In this case, it’s not. This group is taking a big risk doing what they did because of the country they are in. I think it’s one of the most direct queer songs we have in Kpop. And we really need that.

    • @KikiLee
      @KikiLee  2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      I couldn't have said it better! Sometimes I stumble over my words and hope that things aren't taking what I say the wrong way because I get so passionate and have a lot to say. They really are so incredibly genuine and this song was so important. ♥

    I always wonder why people said libidO was just used for queerbaiting. But really, for me, living in a place when talking about intercourse, and people lack sexual education, libidO has a very beautiful message. As someone who end up ruining myself for lack of idea about virginity and how to take care of myself back then...breaking taboo about it is something important. Some people might not understand it coz some other places see it as normal, after all, it is really normal. But not everywhere.
    Now, another song that represents lgbtq+, sexuality, freedom to express, this MV says a lot. Kyubin represents struggle in accepting sexuality, Yoojung represents acceptance. Other than that, there's also difference in social status, another type of barrier that almost everyone experience.
    "When you're free from any prejudice, freedom will begin."

    • @KikiLee
      @KikiLee  2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Absolutely yes yes to all of this! It’s also crazy to me that people would use “queer baiting” when in reality they don’t even know the boys sexuality. At this point in their career they have had consistent LGBTQ+ concepts in their music and it’s evident this isn’t just for the talk and controversy. This song especially and the heartfelt message in the description from yoojung is exactly what these people need to see and even then I still think they will have shit to say.

      @@KikiLee yes! How sure are those people that OOO are all just straight guys seeking views? And even if they are straight, how sure are they that its just for attention? What if they have someone important to them and they wanted to use their songs as a voice to speak in behalf of them? Its just really sad when people also says negative about it when the message is so obvious. Its just as the song said, prejudice blinds the eyes and shut off our ears from hearing the voice that is loud and clear. Without any kinds of prejudice, that's when we will find freedom.

    These boys are putting themselves on the line and have been hated so much, they haven't grown to be very big either, so I have no idea where all these "they are doing it for clout and attention" comments come from, I don't think anyone would put themselves through all of this, if it doesn't actually mean something to them, like come on. Plus anytime they show this side of them, it never looks poorly done, uncomfortable or even fetishized, it's artistic and pretty, it's very tasteful and just makes me feel good and fuzzy inside. They are a blessing to the community and I love em sm

    I agree wholeheartedly with you, this song means so much, especially with releasing it during pride month. Every time I listen to this song/watch the mv I feel all sorts of emotions. I love Onlyoneof, been stanning since debut, and I just feel so proud seeing their journey to this point. They show so much care to the LGBTQ+ community as you said, and it really warms my heart. I am a part of the community myself so seeing this sort of queer representation in kpop where it's not common, it really means a lot.

  • @InnerAlice
    @InnerAlice 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    The queerbaiting accusations drive me crazy beause it is so obviously done from the priviledged place of living in a country where LGBTQ+ is more accepted than it is in South Korea. I tend to think that in the US we assume we are the main audience for some reason. An Asian commentor (on the Red Lights mv) said that there should be a distinction between queerbaiting and queercoding. They said the latter is widely used in countries where being queer is not particularly safe as a way to communicate to others in the community, to make them feel seen. Actually, queercoding was used in American cinema and TV until it became more acceptable to have openly queer characters and storylines. In any case, this is so obviously meant to show support. People won't be happy until a member flat out says I'm gay and ends up harassed and blacklisted for it.

    OOO were underrated before even having such a broad discography and pushing themselves to create something new, musically. They are still underrated after coming out with Instinct pt1+2 but they never backed down. They know who they are, and what they want to convey and share with their fans, and that is just amazing.
    Being bi myself, the moment I watched Libido I was on the floor crying because that was too much for me, it made me feel anxious about them as a group (since Korea is not accepting of the whole LGBTQIA+ spectrum) but it also made me feel happy. It made me love these boys even more because the leap of faith they took, and the way they wanted to push boundaries told me what I needed to know.

    I really think they know what they are doing and the support they want to give, and we should keep in mind, as you said, they get a target on their heads for taking the courage and being brave enough to touch this topic, wich really still a bit taboo in corea. This song feels like a hug, thats what we all need to fell i guess? like, they are saying: it is ok, we know you like our music and we wanna give you this. And I say this because the song feels specific, its not like any other encougering/generic song, we can actually feel the emotion in here.
    IDK if I made my point, but is something like that, a beautiful hug for all of us who somehow need to feel or hear this.
    I do really appreciate this group, they take me out from the noise and calm me down. LOVE EM SO MUCH

    love your videos kiki ❤ begin is my favorite song from the be series just because i relate a lot to it. these boys are amazing for dedicating their solos to represent queer relationships. the whole queerbaiting allegations are ridiculous since real people can't queerbait like characters in fiction, so yeah... thank you for always supporting them!

  • @kooiuck
    @kooiuck 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    i truly believe that people wouldn't accuse them of queerbaiting if the dynamics weren't between the members - ie. if yoojung had used an actor to fill kyubin's role instead, i honestly and genuinely think that people would have less of an issue. i feel the same about the libido video too - i remember everybody making statements such as "i hope they're comfortable with the concept", implying that it's the company's ploy to gaining more fans (and therefore, queerbaiting). the message in the description of the video tells you everything about their intentions and the video itself is beautiful so that's all that matters

      I am with you that having some speculations or worries when you are not familiar with OOO is normal. However, with a bit of attention and research, I come to the conclusion that OOO is doing this for the art, for the message, and for the people who can connect to their message. I think there are just some haters who just throw terms around or accuse OOO/8D of XYZ for hate. OOO doesn't need to change a thing to address them. During their 1000-day live, the members thanked the company, specifically, for protecting them. Usually, we hear idols thank their company/staff for their hard work or support, so I find it very interesting to hear that.

    • @kooiuck
      @kooiuck 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@shanr3338 i don't actually think it is/ should be normal to speculate when you're unfamiliar - i wasn't a fan of ooo before libido but i just took the entire thing at face value, which was an artistic expression of exploring one's sexuality and i do the same thing for any group and any concept, and i reconsider my thoughts if any issues arise or if the "face value" isn't good (ie. offensive). the point i was making was that i think people only seem to find an issue with this "concept" because it implies non-platonic relationships between the members as part of the storyline and i truly believe that if they had carried out these stories using non-members, people would take to the concept with less hatred. i completely agree with you that they're doing it for the art and for the people who can connect to and relate to the stories they're portraying and i wouldn't want them to change anything that they're doing :)

    • @shanr3338
      @shanr3338 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@kooiuck i understand the assuming innocent until proven guilty mentality, which is the way it should be. However, I don't know why, ooo got hate for a lot of things beyond imagination. They got hated by using the white actress in their angel MV. The amount of dislikes on that MV really stood out to me when I was checking them out. Now people can't see the stats. I just don't know if there is a realistic fix of those toxic haters, who cannot reason.

    • @kooiuck
      @kooiuck 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@shanr3338 people do just hate for the sake of it - because they personally don't like them or some stupid excuse they've created themselves. i would like to argue, however, that taking things at face value isn't assuming innocent until proven guilty - a music video might be very obviously offensive and i'm immediately going to think that's the case if i take the video at face value. however, that hasn't been my experience with ooo - i haven't found an issue with their concept thus far. the main point of my original comment was that people see the portrayal of a relationship between two members of the same group as the issue, as to them it implies queerbaiting and this notion that the company is doing it for money and sales, not for artistic expression.

    • @shanr3338
      @shanr3338 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@kooiuck I see. I personally don't think people from the same group portray as a couple in an MV as an issue at all. I think it just shows they all want to play a part in the story. MVs are not reality. Would people have problems with idols, for example, in their MV, flying. Does that mean they are superheros in real life? This may not be parallel to romantic stories, but I personally think MVs are fictions just like movies or dramas.

    This is such a gorgeous song and music video, and I agree with you 100% about the people who have attacked them. I also agree that we're to some extent a more accepting country than some, but we are also less so than others. And those in power are doing their damnedest to roll back any rights that have been hard won by anyone who isn't a white, straight, "Christian" male. (Yes, those quote marks are deliberate.) It's already happening and my fear is the erosion of rights is going to continue to erode at an alarming rate. We have to fight back, and one small way is to support artists of all types who produce creative content with messages of support for minority communities of all types. We have to make it abundantly clear that the majority of the public does not agree with this erosion of rights.

    The whole hate around ooo made me hate cancel culture even more than I did before, and that speaks for itself. It proved to me that people literally do not give a shit about actually observing and jump straight to the conclusion. And given that people always look for drama, problems and things to gossip about, it's obvious that that conclusion is not gonna be nice when it's something controversial. What ooo are doing is actual art, and that opinion grows bigger inside me every day that I keep discovering them. It's not art for everyone, I agree, but why don't people just look away if they don't like it? Hell, criticism is nice, but people who say ooo are queerbating obviously do not give a f about anything their concept is about, because if you looked into it, there's nothing to actually prove that poing and thousands of things to prove them wrong. People make no sense smh.
    And it upsets me even more because ooo do stuff that is so important! Many people have an emotional connection to that group BECAUSE of their concepts. If somebody doesn't need that or straight up dislikes it, they can just stop watching. I've disliked a bunch of things in K-pop, but never would I voice out any criticism, leave alone hate, without knowing the group. And I generally always only criticize the groups that are important to me personally, but these people obviously do not give a fuck about ooo.
    People are so mean and it makes me sad honestly.
