    This 105-year-old player piano is in dire need of an overhaul if it's ever going to be anything more than just a shelving unit.
    I often feel like I'm operating inside a vacuum in my little piano shop. It's time to change that.
    Music: QRS Music Roll 6606 Spring Cleaning, Music Roll 99675 A Bag of Rags, QRS Music Roll 10-412 Rubber Duckie, US Brand Music Roll 28703 Tickle Toe played on a restored 1917 Autopiano upright.

    Another step in what looks like a great job! Nice move with the custom angled cauls.

    I enjoyed watching the wood grain emerge as you cleaned the pedal board, even if it's never seen again. When you first pulled the pedals I said out loud, "There goes the accelerator, brake, and clutch!' Then laughed out loud at the effects you added after their installation--perfect touch. Will future videos explain how the pedals work? A few other questions: When you clamped the pedal board, why clamp the large blocks across the board? Does that keep it true and prevent bowing under pressure as the glue dries? And I wondered when you would refinish the outside of the board. Is it relatively unimportant because it's on the bottom and outa sight? After it was upright again it looked like you might have painted across the bottom, off-camera. Still enjoying this adventure with you; thanks for bringing us along.

      Hey Jon! I realized that I should have explained the pedals BEFORE I took everything apart. Too late for that! Yes, I will definitely explain them once I can show what they do. There's a ways to go before I can do that, though.
      You're on to it with the large blocks I used during the glue-up. They helped keep the board flat while everything set.
      Other than a quick wipe down, I didn't do any finishing to the bottom (outside) of the board. The original finish was good enough.

    Nice job, that slab of wood would cost more than the piano was when new if you need to replace it with the cost of lumber. 🤣🤣 great episode 2x👍

      Yikes. Think of all the resources that went into the manufacturing of this Piano originally!

    Soft pedal, bass only damper pedal, and damper pedal. Grand pianos normally have an una corda pedal, sostenuto pedal, and damper pedal.

    I enjoyed the humor you bring to your videos! How many hours do you put in to a restoration like this?

    • @nateoutsidethevacuum
      @nateoutsidethevacuum  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I can't say until I'm done. I'm guessing it'll be around 300 hours. I will certainly mention that in the final video once I know.

    A full half of restoration work always seems to be cleaning....! What is the black and yellow brush that chucks into your cordless drill Nate?

    • @nateoutsidethevacuum
      @nateoutsidethevacuum  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the cosmetic work really slows things down, but makes all the difference. The brush is a "toilet bowl cleaner for drills". It's proven to be very handy!

    I'm curious; why did you put liquid graphite under the bellows mounts/hardware when you put it back on the bottom board?

    • @nateoutsidethevacuum
      @nateoutsidethevacuum  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm glad you asked! It's actually thickened shellac (like molasses). It's what they used originally to help ahderee the mounts to the shellacked bottom board.

    Hi Nate, to access the pedalboard, you use a piano-turn-over-on-it’s-side kinda thing. I can sure use one of those. What is that tool called? Thanks.

    • @nateoutsidethevacuum
      @nateoutsidethevacuum  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! I've heard them call a Tip Cart or Piano Tilter. A name as simple as the tool itself.

    What fluid did you use to clean the board? An oil? Anyone know?
