      Meh, was never a fan of malls, extremely wasteful and trashy for our environment . Lot of over priced gooods, which you could get online for a lot cheaper during the same time of malls. Plus malls pay extremely cheap, low wages; no one would be wanting to do these jobs in 2022, as people are finally learning how bad the wages are in the USA and how they are exploited so badly, its why everyone is hiring constantly, no one wants these jobs.
      Only nice thing is you could see the things in person, or if you didnt want to wait or the food court sometimes. LIving in the bible belt, it was more of a "luxury" going there, especially when everyone is poor here, living below the poverty line; i can see why they are going under.
      Malls only more likely to survive in poorer conservative boomer countries, where they don't pay fair wages. Once wages start climbing, people demanding more in those countries, they'll close; you'll see them in russia, brazil, india, africa.

    • @koilamaoh4238
      @koilamaoh4238 ปีที่แล้ว

Amazon prime is free shipp with similar priced products and hard to find ones. I get most my things next day from amazon, kinda beats going out, as I can get it at home quick; saves me the trouble of picking up germs from cashiers and herds of people.
      You know, covid and inflation and low wage slave workers quitting their jerbs.. ITs why lot of things are getting more costly. The corporate goons have to make up their lost money somehow, by over pricing our things.

    I worked in that mall in the early 90s and at the time it was always packed. It was mostly teenagers and young adults hanging out for hours, but all that started to die off when they replaced the food court with an H&M and the arcade left along with a couple smaller stores that appealed to young people. The Pburg Mall went on a steady decline from that point since there really wasnt much to keep mallrats spending time there.

      I have faint memories of the food court (born 1995), but I heard it was closed because the food places were struggling. Some people I know even said by the late 90’s that the court’s business heavily dwindled

    • @WaltBTB
      @WaltBTB ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@RYMAN1321 That's part of why they replaced it with the H&M, for sure. But by the time they made that move, they had already priced out several stores that attracted the younger crowd. So as a result, less kids coming to the mall, less kids hanging out at the food court which was just about the last thing remaining to get kids to just hang out at the mall altogether. It was all a snowball rolling downhill, sadly.

    Hi Josh. I really liked this video. I think this was a really good video because of all the good memories most of us have of our own small town malls that we went to growing up. Malls that r now closed down or will soon b. Many of these malls represent for many of us, a time in our lives when the mall was the place to b. A place that was full of life at one time. A place full of people shopping, or doing their daily exorcise of walking, or there to eat, or to meet your friends, or to just sit & people watch. I remember my grandparents doing that. It was a place full of fun happy times growing up. So many memories your video brings back. Good but now sad. Yet I was smiling & laughing as u all built back some of Santa's house. I'm glad u guys took the time to do that.
    It may of been a somewhat simple video Josh.... but I think it touched all of us. And that makes the video great. Thank u Josh & thank u for all the amazing videos u share with us all year long. • @GazzNikito
    @GazzNikito ปีที่แล้ว +11

    This mall used to be great when I was little. Went down hill fast after they took the food court and water fountains out(mid 90s?). The music they heard is from the church up the road it chimes music at a certain time of day. HW stands for Hat World. It was like a Lids. Sold ball caps and flat brims. I feel like the tilted lamp post happened when it was plowed for the last time? 🤔 They kept debating if they were going to tear it down and put housing in. Prior to that the rumors were they were going to put a new mall in(obviously never happened). 🤷‍♀️ It's a shame, but from what I had heard management ran it into the ground?

    • @jeffvalentine9947
      @jeffvalentine9947 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you know why they closed down the food court and took the water fountains out? To cut costs to help revenue or couldn’t afford to maintain it?

    • @GazzNikito
      @GazzNikito ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jeff Valentine I'm actually not certain. I was so young then. I think they wanted to build more room for stores because that became where the H&M used to be. The water fountains 🤷‍♀️ my guess is cost of maintenance and the hassle of removing coins?

    • @mikebrown8065
      @mikebrown8065 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jeffvalentine9947, unfortunately it was a poor executive choice to remove the food court. Unfortunately, the tenants had to upcharge for the food to offset for the cost of rent, which made people shy away from buying their food.
      At about the same time throughout all the malls in the area, the water fountains ⛲️ were removed. The cost of maintenance, running them, and keeping them germ free (like bubonic plague was back in the middle ages) was a major issue. The change people threw in was free money, lol.

    I know a good place! I'm not quite sure if anybody can get in but anyways it's in Duluth, Georgia. It's called Gwinnett Place Mall, it was used to film Stranger Things Season 3. The mall opened in 1984 and currently sits abondoned with it's anchor stores being the only ones open. Unfortunately, it does seem to still be owned by the county with new plans for it in the works.

    Sears was on the end with Payless, the section had a lot of damage, so when sears closed they tore down that section-same with Bon-Ton, once it closed they destroyed that section as well-in the beginning you are standing in that Bon-Ton section, with the lonely shopping cart.. The “party store” you mention was a $.99 store. JC Penny was towards the Kohl’s end, but the back side of the mall.

      Please refresh my memory.
      I was born in 1995 and do slightly remember the food court and riding the merry go round before the food court closed up.
      I have heard many say that even by the late 90’s that the food court’s business was already dwindling hence why it was eventually fully shuttered.

    We have a Philipsburg in PA and it's about 3 miles from my house. There's not a traditional mall in town but instead, there's a plaza and it also doesn't have a lot of stores left. I think there's a hair salon, a dollar store, a goodwill, clothes store and a doctor's office. There use to be a department store and a grocery store but with the rise of online shopping, those stores closed. Across the parking lot, there's a couple restaurants. Like a McDonald's and a Chinese restaurant.

    Way to give this Mall life again, especially during the Christmas Season. I use to enjoy the malls during Christmas time, the decorations, lights, music, Christmas food vendors w/carts of different things to eat or drink ( candy cane coco, double chocolate chip coco, especially Cinnamon chocolate Coco). Sad reason behind Mall closing isn’t just economics, it’s “CRIME”! When you have a shooting at a place where families could go enjoy a day or evening out, it honestly puts a bullseye on the Mall. Malls where meant to be safe places to shop, eat, and sometimes enjoy live entertainment. Not now, just sad to this happened. Great video, awesome way to give the Mall its last Christmas Setup, awesome!
